As long as I can see the mat and the score, they can say whatever they like4 points

That is a huge, huge difference. I feel like a real donkey. I just hate when people disparage lower level D1 wrestlers like they weren't also at one time very good high school wrestlers. On a message board where we spend most of the time talking about the elite of the D1 ranks, it's easy to forget that being a D1 NQ, as I previously mentioned, is something than less than 1/1000 high school wrestlers accomplish.4 points

I’m not sure if it will be Kerk or Hendrickson, but I think one of them beats him. Getting flashbacks to 2022 Spencer Lee with most people seeming to assume him winning is a foregone conclusion.2 points

It doesn't bother me. Sometimes kind of funny...fist to the back, etc. You can always turn the sound off. I'm old enough to remember when the only option to watch high caliber wrestling was to drive for half a day and pay for gas, admission, food, lodging.2 points

Well... that little vid there showing Romney horsing Bailey over like a HS JV wrestler, is POWERFUL. Doing THAT to a returning AA will certainly show up in a lot of highlight reels this season! D32 points

Thank God for the Big Ten Network. Its so great for college wrestling fans!2 points

This rock lobster guy. Is center of the road. Not left. Not right. He either thinks this is true Or the troll personality he embodies thinks he is. Think of how scary that this personality being middle center is…. Wowza lol. Please don’t answer rock lobster not particularly interested in your answer tbh. it’s subtle. But I’ve notice his rhetoric is different pre / post election.2 points

10 consecutive bonus wins. 1 MD 3 TF 6 Falls Msu didnt pose much threat, but PSU looked in near peak form.1 point

history will decide....I'm also a notorious tOSU hater and think that they all peak early.1 point

I've heard "first college loss" as an excuse for such maneuvering twice now and even though I don't disagree with the decisions in themselves thats a really absurd justification.1 point

He had the flu. You don't want a guy taking his first college loss at an open tournament when he's sick.1 point

Haha that’s actually a great gig for an old retired wrestling coach. From what I saw today, Gable is a better than ever. No one is beating him in the US.1 point

Say whatever you want but I freaking love watching this dude wrestle. Total control on the mat. USA wrestling needs him to give it another Olympic run.1 point

Mack is real good, and between him and his partner, they can be very funny. Bonus. When you think about it many TV announcers can't be experts on the topic that comes up. Breaking news is an example. The nuances of riding time are another. Still, the Big Ten conference should be there to do what they can to make sure their announcers succeed. For as little as $40k, the conference can bring in our team to prepare their announcers for most eventualities, especially if those eventualities have anything to do with strippers, bar fights and Ric Flair.1 point

Like Theismann? College football player Joe Theismann (These - man) changed it to THIGHs- man because it rhymed with Heisman - the football trophy.1 point

Gophers use some of their former star wrestlers, Mack Reiter and others, for home Big Ten duals.1 point

You’ll have to answer some of the questions above. I figure you came here hoping to get 50 people to agree with you and bag on these kids. The reality is. Wrestling is a #8-10ish most popular sport in men’s ncaa sports. There isn’t a qualified army of announcers sitting in their basement not working these duals. Plenty of knuckle heads here still bag on shame sparks or Tim Johnson or Burroughs or Dan gable who are some of the top tier announcers. Wrestling fans are some of the grumpiest fans out there. I remember arguing with people who didn’t want to pay for espn or espn plus to watch NCAAs. Where do you want this to go back to? When iptv was basically the only place to watch? fact of the matter is. This is the absolute Mecca of wrestling when it comes to access to matches. You can basically see every match of every tournament now if you want to. You can see every dual meet if you want to. Every second of every match at NCAAs is basically free. A few years back you only got 3/4/5 duals a year And maybe the ncaa finals. Then they added semis quarters consis etc.1 point

Isn’t it one of the best / only way to build up a crew up competent wrestling broadcasters? I still wonder as we grow the # of televised duals you stretch the pool of existing announcers. It may be one of the only ways. It’s not like psu Iowa is getting kids. Mn nebby is getting the top crew. These are the second / third tier dials often.1 point

Seriously, I think having student broadcasters is one of the few things that harkens back to the amateur roots of collegiate sports. The idea was fantastic, and although there have been a few painful moments in practice, I think it's a great idea in theory, and it at least gives some credence to a university's mission of educating their students. Schools offer TV and broadcasting degrees, right?1 point

There's an easy solution to this problem. The Big Ten and any other conference with student announcers should hire Brian "Voice of the ILLINI" Swaw and me before the season starts to run a webinar on matside broadcasting: "The A to Z of Play by Play and Color Announcing for College Wrestling." We would charge our usual speaker fee of $20k each, and put together and run a two-hour course. The first hour would be about the "Play Jar" and the "Game Jar." If you say the word "play" or any of its derivatives (i.e. player, playing, played, etc), you have to put $50 in the Play Jar. At the end of the season, that money goes to the schools RTC program. Same goes for the word "game." The second hour would be me telling stories about strippers and bar fights and Brian doing his Rick Flair impersonation and telling dad jokes.1 point

Feldman - it shows him as 10-1 but he has an injury default and 2 MFF’s. https://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/64017/feldman-nick/profile edit: oh wait, didn’t realize that was all in the same event. I think the MFF doesn’t count as a loss if you injury default first? If so then apologies as I was mistaken1 point

When is the last time a Big 10 school had 55+ points put up on them? I would not be shocked if it’s a new Big 10 record. The shutout isn’t surprising, but averaging 5.5 points per match is astonishing, even in a mismatch.1 point

Why is Feldman mid to low AA ceiling? If healthy he might be the favorite next year. Lots of guys graduate.1 point

100%. That's why after almost every "bad blood" fight, you see guys hug it out and likely apologize for the public insults that were only directed to promote the fight. I would imagine that 99% of fighters respect the hell out of each other, and the trash talk is just necessary to promote the PPV money. I wouldn't want to see it, but I'm sure if NCAA wrestlers starting talking massive trash about one another prior to NCAA's and the promos were cut on TV, it would undoubtedly raise viewership by at least a small margin. Storylines are as important as anything when it comes to casual fans.1 point

The assertation that their room would be worse than "many" high school rooms is absolutely, sorry to say, idiotic. Less than 1% of high school wrestlers go D1.. how many high schools boast a room where the majority of athletes are in the top 1%? You could say that there are a handful of high school rooms that may be better than MSU, but out of the thousands upon thousands of high school programs, there are a handful of wrestling factories that would have a better room. "Many" is obviously subjective, but I would say it's much more fair to say that their are a few elite high school programs with better quality in the room. Relatively speaking, most "bad" D1 starters are state champion caliber wrestlers in most states, and more often than not, better. If everyone on a high school team is an average state champion, they still aren't going to compete with MSU. People forget that being a D1 NQ still puts an athlete in the top .001% of all high school wrestlers. They may be a bad starter in D1, but they're still going to wreck an average high school state champion.1 point
