Ech really isn't that big of a 141, and he was an even smaller 149. I believe Ech thinks he is bigger than what he actually is and will struggle with some guys size at 149.

The only season ending injury he has ever had was up at 149.

He was legitimately descending to 141lbs when it happened...

He will compete at either weight because he is solid in neutral and an absolute physical beast.

He will struggle against the grinders of 149lbs, though.  Just as he did before.

He weighed in at 148.4 day 1 and 149.4 day 2 of CKLV in 2024. Doesn’t seem like a guy making a descent, does it?

I know we’re only five days into the portal but man I thought there’d be a little more action on destination decisions. At this point we’re not even talking about guys actually in the portal…

Last year I believe the first major announcement was Swiderski, one week after the portal opened.

I could see Herrera back home in Cali - and Cal Poly has an opening as Tinker has graduated.  Or up to Oregon State to fill the void left from Attao

And it sounds like Castillo and maybe Meza could end up back home at Arizona State.

I could see this.

Only issue being that ASU has a promising RS Fr at heavy.

I'm really hoping Rademacher fills the Attao void and the Beavs pick up a 197 in the portal

In some ways it should be a good sign that kids didn't go in already knowing where they are going, like when they go in with a do not contact label and then show up a the new school 3 days later.    I never think those deals are on the level.

Yea going in with a do not contact is sketchy. But I know I, and I would assume most of these guys already have a pretty good idea of where they would like to go and the opportunities available to them. We’re basically at a week in now so you would think the initial contacts have already been made and if the interest is reciprocated than it’s a matter of working out some details. Wrestlers to me have never been the overly complicated kind but maybe we’re just getting to that point.

But Tom said they would see who was going to go in the portal first  and then learn a lot more about them.

Herrera moved to Ames prior to his senior year of high school and after committing to Iowa State. Obviously he was very committed to that program to leave his home in CA after winning two state titles so he could train in Ames to prepare for college. He was a NQ his true freshman season, got his redshirt in while training with Younger Dave Batista. Then.... ISU recruited over him with Merrill. I get it, Merrill is going to be special and beat him in a college open. It's just too bad that we see a kid with this much commitment to a program get recruited over and end up in the portal. He will be a solid pick up and at least a 1x AA IMO.

Unfortunately just the way it goes in all sports nowadays.

Luckily for Herrera he got great training in while getting bigger/stronger. I know he had a bum knee at some point this year but this year off will pay dividends for him and whoever gets him.

That is the thing that sucks about HWT especially. You can't make them both fit into the lineup when they are both true heavies. At any other weight class you can have someone go up or down and stay with the program.
