There was a time early in the season where people were trashing on Bormet for Michigan having a bad season.
I argued this was a transition year for them. They didn’t have a 33 and there 65 got hurt early in the year. They weren’t supposed to be a top 5 team, but they placed 5th at Big tens this weekend, losing by half a point to Iowa who had a helluva tourney. Michigan is doing a great job, and McNiel and Ghadiali are coming into foRm

Was Austin Gomez granted an emergency extra year of Michigan-shirt eligibility to compete at nationals?!?!

Is Michigan happy with 5th place in the conference?   They did seem to have a good tournament (Shoutout Taye!) compared to their regular season but they were competing for B1G and NCAA titles just a few years ago.  Feels weird to be happy with 5th at the conference.

I would have a hard time accepting that anyone in that program is happy with 5th.  I don't think ANY competitive person is ever happy with anything but 1st.

Iowa is learning to be happy that way.

I’m saying they weren’t supposed to be better

They got two good ones coming in from Wisconsin: Kellen Wolbert and Hakon Peterson.  From a recruiting standpoint, they have pretty elite academics, campus, facilities, $$$, etc.  Bormet, et. al might not be buying HS kids Cadilacs like the billionaire-funded programs, but Ann Arbor will always be on a top HS athlete's short list because of what they have to offer, even in a "bad year"

In a tournament setting where your team result can be heavily influenced by the performance of your best wrestlers this really isn't that surprising. The problem with Michigan is that half of their line-up was pretty bad all year.

Would you be that surprised if Ghadiali was their only AA this year? I wouldn't be. I'd guess they end up with two, but who knows.

Then again, the B10 might be harder than NCAAs so maybe the finish with a trophy.

Brock should place 5-8 even though his bracket is insane and his brother Beau has a huge second round match against Facundo and I think the loser of that match is going to have trouble making it through the blood round and placing, the winner should place.. that match is going to be crazy for the second round... I can see Cat place anywhere from 5th to 8th...McNeil depends on which one you get you could have him in the semis or he could struggle and go 2-2....

I still think Michigan could end up with 1 AA but I actually have..

McNeil 5th: (not a bad draw getting Tyus and Wasilewski in his quarter of the bracket, I have him in the semis)

Catrabone R12: I was hoping he'd AA but I don't see it happening unless he beats Antrell on the topside, he'll likely have loser of Robideau/Larkin and I don't like him in those matchups)

BeauMan 4th: I am bullish on guys on the backside that aren't afraid to wrestle. I think a lot of guys wrestle different after a tournament loss, especially at nationals and I like him to ball out on the backside.

BrockMan 5th: I have Brock in the semis. He was a benefactor of the Ferrari seed as he managed to find himself in the only 1/4 of the bracket without a member of the Big 4 at this weight. The Fishback match will definitely be close, but if he can get through that one, I like him to beat Conway.

Ghadiali 5th: Loses in semis to Trumble, and then Feldman gets him in the consi-semis.

4 AAs for the wolverines and a 9th place finish.

I'd be happy with that!!! I definitely hope the California Brothers both place; especially Beau, he was so close last year... we have some studs coming in next year and we get Lemley back in the lineup so the next few years it should be a solid team been fun to

It the michigan way.  Spend money on transfers because they can't develop their recruits.

Posted (edited)

Myles Amine Developed, Alec Pantaleo Developed, Logan Massa Developed, Adam Coon Developed, Mason Paris Developed, Cam Amine Developed. I could go on they had a few down years after that group of came and gone but they didn't really get many top 30 recruits again until just recently and I would say that both of Mantanona brothers are definitely developing Sergio Lemley will be great next year and is developing..  their main test will be their recruits coming in next year because it's technically their best class in a long time with a lot of top 50 recruits so we'll see and the transfers they did bring in definitely got better especially the heavyweight transfers

I think both Mantanona’s AA, though Brock must beat Fishback to do it. I think Taye wins, McNeil gets 6th, Sotelo BR, and Catrabone R16 I have them in 9th

Nope, I'm not jesus christ. The guy is a myth and responsible for wars, murder, slavery & misery across the world. I'm just a guy watching the dismantling of Iowa from before Gary Kurdelmeier to Tom & Terry.

Iowa deserves the scrutiny just as Penn State does.

Michigan just got 7th at nationals with 5/6 guys they sent AA’d. They return 3 of them: Matanona x2 and Catrabone who will all be ranked within the top 8.

oh, and the transfers they brought in that were “disappointing” to start the year both got third, losing in the semis to the national champs. Hell of a job by Bormet
