Always been a fan of the Bison so I know I’m biased, but it would be nice to see more NIL $$ get brought in from football that can help out some of their other sports. Maybe even see a few guys on both teams 👀

While on the topic, what school should be the next to move their wrestling program to D1??

Considering they are already D1 wrestling in a decent conference. Idk what jump the wrestling team could make?

North Dakota is 7-8 in duals on the season. Every team they have lost to, with the exception of UNI, has an FBS football program. Every team they have beat, with the exception of Air Force, does not have an FBS football program. I believe it will give them the confidence against other FBS schools, especially if they already beat them in football or finished the season with a better record. Plus the money won’t hurt! 🤑💰

Nothing wrong with believing if you want but it probably doesn't change anything ... at least that's what I believe.

Could actually go the other way: NDSU could prioritize revenue sharing for football even further and widen the resource gap with wrestling.

Didn't they pay close to $20M in entrance fees to move to the MWC and reclassify as FBS? On top of that, they've said their football budget will need a massive increase to be competitive, and the conference has a revenue lock so NDSU won't receive full media revenue payouts until around 2032 and zero postseason revenue during its transition period. As an FBS program, NDSU football will probably receive higher payouts as cupcake games against P4 schools, but idk if they'll be awash in money to the point that it gives wrestling a bunch of new cash to play with in the near future

Didn’t think of this…

When teams go all-in on football, it's always a bad sign for wrestling (and all other Olympic sports).

This was my first thought when I saw they were going to the FBS. I think it’s way more likely they drop the program then start pouring resources into it. The program could be in big trouble without some private donor money coming in

I wish all big ten football schools had a wrestling program. Oregon singlets would be cool

Dont the ducks show up way to often as it is?

A genie grants me some wishes and doesn’t get technical with my long rambling wrestling related list…

Oregon and Washington - had them before, in the Big 10 now, we wrestle here, get with the program. You’re getting well north of $60M probably from the media contract and that will grow as the contract matures and we get closer to 2030.
USC and UCLA - looking at your clowns next. HS wrestling is huge in CA. Get with it.

SEC - seeing more and more college kids coming from SEC country and more and more HS kids from traditional SEC country showing up in the HS rankings. Come on, come show us Yankees that southern speed. I’m sure there’s still some way you could cheat, and another sport you can cheat in is kinda your thing…🤷‍♂️

Syracuse, Clemson - had programs, bring them back, beef up the ACC a bit.

The state of Florida - someone has to start a program there. Come on, seems everyone’s moving there, did they forget the mats when they moved??

Could you imagine? Maybe driven by the addition of women’s programs if we had 10-14 new Mens programs from big time power conferences (in other sports) that joined the fray and got NCAA D1 back in flirting range of 100 programs?? I’d need to change my shorts!

I feel Georgia Tech is prime to add a program; in the ACC, Georgia HS wrestling has made jumps lately

Of the schools we've lost recently; Fresno and Boise St feel like the ones I would most want back from a geography and HS participation standpoint.

I would love to see more money flow to NDSU wrestling with the jump but it is not likely to happen. The $17 million they are paying to make the move to FBS off the jump doesn't help, although I have good indication they've known this invite was coming for the past year and hopefully had donations lined up in preparation for the first big bill.

Comments in here regarding revenue sharing going to football, this is absolutely what will happen. NIL collective resources have almost been entirely to football, men's basketball has barely gotten any. So with the move to FBS, this gap will only continue to widen.

The Bison Wrestling Club currently handles NIL for NDSU wrestling and is highly discouraged by NDSU and Teammakers (athletics fundraising organization) as they don't want individual sports fundraising so they can control where money goes. Every $1 that goes to something else is viewed as $1 being taken away from them. So in reality the only possibility of a jump in funding is increased donations with the visibility of FBS but I am not optimistic it will be significant. Hopefully I am wrong...

NDSU won't be able to compete for the MWC title, CFP, or bowl games until 2028 and won't get full revenue sharing until 2032. James Madison filed for a waiver to skip its probationary period, but it was denied by the NCAA, so that's probably not a great sign for NDSU.

I mean, I hope the move to FBS will raise the entire NDSU athletics brand and help with overall recruitment and fundraising. Tbf, NDSU football probably reached its ceiling in FCS so the move kinda makes sense, and hopefully the promise of MWC media money down the road will keep the program from going the way of Campbell athletics, who also tried to take a step up in football (but not to FBS). Getting through the near-term financial strain just sounds rough.

First order of business for the athletics dept will be to fund 22 additional football scholarships to get to the FBS minimum. Then it's not hard to imagine expenses spiraling into stadium upgrades, renovations, practice facilities, and all the other stuff that goes into the modern day college football arms race. It's also kinda wild that season ticket prices aren't going up and free student ticket program will be intact (for now). Great to hear that NDSU wrestling has its own fundraising apparatus, and I hope it thrives.

Stadium upgrades? A new indoor Stadium makes more sense.

Wrestling is still a third tier sport at the University. Football has won 18 Titles in the various divisions they have been in. Doubtful it will continue now that they will be playing with the Big Boys.

I bet sales of the movie FARGO will go up as D1 schools buy copies to send to their prospective recruits.

NDSU already has an indoor stadium.
