Both Haines and Davis should be suspended for multiple matches.

By the conference? Or the coaching staff?

When was the last time someone was nearly shoved off a platform maliciously on purpose 5 steps out of bounds?

you misunderstood I’m with you. It was egregious and the lack of scrutiny by those in charge sucks. I’m asking a serious question, has it ever happened before? Is it possible there’s nothing in the rule book about it?

Fair.  No worries if I was confused.  I don’t recall a push out that far out of bounds ever.    Maybe that is why no one is answering it.

in context we had a guy in college that was the best oob pushers I’ve ever met at the time.  He was well…. An angry physical sob.  He loved dirty launching people oob.   This was worse than what I saw him ever do lol.  But that was a long time ago 🙂    And we were never on an elevated platform and I think the space on the outside of the mat was smaller.   He (Haines) had a good 12 feet of so to push him to get to the edge… and he started a few steps in bounds

Yea just very unusual and out of character for Haines. The majority of the comments support some sort of penalty regardless of which team they’re in the corner for. I hope the lack of discipline doesn’t encourage some hothead to push someone so hard they get injured.

Put this one squarely on the Referees.

It is their judgment at the time that determines whether or not to call it.

What? Put it on Levi he did it.

No it wouldn't.  Iowa has become irrelevant faster than you can say Jack Robinson.

Your right it would be 40 pages by now

Levi was looking at the edge of the platform and still pushed Minto off into the media. 100% DQ move. Minto lost the match but would not have wanted to have Levi DQ’d IMO b/c Minto wants to see where he stacks up against the best guys at 174lbs. Thankfully, Minto was not injured.

It certainly could’ve been. And it likely would’ve been justified.
As it was happening, with a 15-9 team score, I was kinda thinking/expecting Manning to say he’s hurt/can’t continue and Levi was gonna get a DQ loss.
I haven’t had my usual time to rewatch the dual 1-2 more times, but seemed they got super close to the edge, Levi saw where they were, Minto was still hanging on to him and Levi made a business decision (WHICH I DO NOT AGREE WITH, SUPPORT OR CONDONE) to shove him instead of going over the edge with him??
Again, I didn’t like it, don’t agree with it, Levi’s always been a good kid, classy kid, this was an anomaly. And he’s super lucky it didn’t go the DQ route.

Chippy match all around, there’s no love lost it appears PSU v NEB. Was not happy with Brock’s belly taps, Braedens temper tantrum, Taylor’s post match walk off antics, Levi’s shove, Ferrari’s post match antics. 🤷‍♂️

Wait didn't you say that Bad Boy Braeden was being punished and not allowed to wrestle this year?

The refs comment to both wrestlers after the push was to "stop wrestling after the whistle".  Could be that from his perspective Minto continued to hold on to Haines and Haines pushed Minto for separation and not of malicious intent.  But ...

It would have taken an unlikely lack of situational of awareness for Haines to not realize that any push would endanger Minto.  A DQ would have been the consistent with the notion that a wrestler bears some responsibility for not injuring their opponent regardless of the action or intent.  DQ would have been a correct call.

Wrestling forums document the lamentations.

I don't think there are different rules for wrestling on a raised platform so I doubt there is any rule or prior examples.

Levi is off the mat when he pushes and then turns and walks right back to the center.  If it was an accident (as the homers are claiming) you think he would of been more surprised that Minto fell.  Like, oh geez I didn't realize me shoving you would result in you falling, I should see if he's okay....

It may be worthy of a DQ but imagine the uproar if that happens in the NCAA Finals??

Maybe we should get rid of raised platforms if guys can't handle the responsibility?

Pushes out of bounds, 4-5 steps out of bounds, is not exactly an unheard of event.  Happens a lot.  Not saying it's good, but never seen anyone DQ'd over it. Have seen plenty of occasions where it got a misconduct point, which is what happened here.  Good with the call.

Haines should have been DQ'd, but what Metcalf did to Caldwell in the NCAAs was far worse.  Shoving Caldwell mid-backflip, after the match had ended, with obvious intent to injure.  Yet Metcalf was not DQ'd.

Since worse stuff happens all the time, can you please point to a few example from this season that were worse?

There were about 5 incidents with Baylor Fernandez that were worse than what Levi did. But Baylor got kicked DQ'd for some of his. I think it would have been fine to DQ Levi for this personally.

Did Cael comment on the situation?  He should have.

I didn’t think Cael commented on situations.

Are Levi and Braeden fighting to take over Carter's bad boy image? WE ARE "not all nice guys"!

Although I think Levi is a nice guy but wants to be more intimidating. I think Braeden was afraid he was going to be the sole loser in a dual again, and needs some facial hair before he is intimidating.

I just watched it for the first time. I've never had anything negative to say about Levi, but that was pretty bad. I don't know that you DQ him (I'm not necessarily opposed. The situation could have ended up much, much worse as a result of an in intentional and dangerous shove by Levi), but you'd think that would at minimum be a point for Minto for violating some sort of unnecessary force kind of rule. He 100% knew where they were. He gave him a shove as they went OB and then followed, you see him note the edge of the platform, and then he clearly gives him a second shove to send him off of the platform.

Tempers must have been high because that looked 100% like an action of someone whose wires got crossed in anger.

I don't think you DQ him for that. Not in College. In HS, sure, but the bar is a bit higher in College.

It was cheap and it was kinda pointless. And it did kinda make me root for Minto to hang on and win that match. Everything I've heard about Haines is that he's a particularly kinda nice and laid back kid. I have no clue, but that was a bish move. You're the #1 Wrestler. It's like 30 seconds into the match. You've got 6:30 left to beat him up all you want!

I used to just hate watching Metcalf push off everyone going out of bounds(a lot of people do it, MM does it sometimes). Just seems corny.

Jimmy said he should be suspended for a few matches and I think that's silly, but... maybe PSU sits him out one. Don't want let that start to grow and fester.

I think making a world team and winning an NCAA Title is plenty. I think the contrived tough guy stuff is... obnoxious.
