That is exactly what I was implying with the quotes.  Technically he is a true freshman.  But he is way more experienced than your normal true freshman and everyone who follows wrestling knows this.

No need to put quotes around true freshman. Putting quotes around implies hes technically a true freshman while actually not being one. He through and through is a true freshman.

Why is true freshman relevant?  He turns 20 this summer, is a national title contender, and World Team Member who beat Taylor in freestyle.

Why would anyone treat him any differently because this is first year in college.

Because they're barely coping with the loss.

I think this matchup probably always looks pretty similar. Both guys are very good in the same positions and like to do similar things. Pj has a bit more diversity in his ability to score which I think ultimately makes the difference come March but I would be interested to see what it looks like if Antrell needs to go get one too.

He is our senior team member.  He was going to be 159/0.  The second coming of carl, if you will.

When I first looked at the title of the thread, I thought it was another one about DAKE vs. Taylor.

Yes my mind went straight to fantasy wrestling.

You misunderstand, I liked your comment, I just don't like how some people put themselves above the message board lining someone's pockets. Therefore my "like" reaction is an anti-BD because I can also be a six year old

i am an idiot on the internet

Ya, it's kinda like if you got cradled, pinned, and gave up 6 team points at home, and then tried to fight the guy who literally just beat ur ass in the match ......oh wait I think that was a PSU wrestler??

It was hardly an "ass-beating." Wasn't Hardy losing before that exchange? I'm in no way defending Braeden, but I would qualify his reaction as angry about getting pinned when you were leading the match with less than a minute to go, rather than angry about an ass-beating. But what do I no? 🤨 Eh, @ionel

I guess you make a good point. He was losing, but I was referring to getting pinned. Which in a d1 match means you got beat bad. And I think I typed that after the viking guy in a different chat had me all fired up

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

😅 Fair enough.

I would disagree that getting pinned means you got beat bad. Plenty of guys have been dominating their opponents only to get caught and pinned. Guys who were much better wrestlers than their opponents have been caught and pinned.  I should say getting tech'd is more indicative of getting beat badly or at least a truer indicator but that's just my opinion.

Correct, but in a technical way it's a 6 point swing which is the most team points u can get. So in a technical manner. It's the worst to get beat by, as you are giving up the most points. But as the match itself I would agree. There is worse ways to get beat, tf, ride out... And so on

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

Braden wasnt dominating. He came in hot and started fading. Hardy took over snd pinned him. It was indeed an ass whoopin.

Davis was tied or in the lead for the first 6+ minutes of the match.. what an ass whoopin.

If you showed me the box score and said Brock was whoopin ass, I would have expected him to be controlling the match and at least being close to having the major secured before the fall occurred. I would be very confused to find out that he was trailing with less than a minute to go while handing out the whoopin.

I would say the box score doesnt tell the whole story. Braden came out hot and got up big. There was a clear momentum shift as Hardy took over in the second period of the match and started scoring. Then he got decked. It wasnt a Mitchell Messenbrink style complete destruction from Brock but Davis got out worked for most the match and pinned. Id call that an ass whoopin.

I just went and rewatched it to make sure I wasnt just being a  hater (ive never liked Davis he strikes me as a classic bully type). Braden gassed 1 minute into the second period and it was all Hardy after that. It was 7-5 with Braden leading when he got stuck. Id liken it to a fight where one guy lands a few nice ones and then gets tired and pummeled before hes KO'd. I stand by my opinion an ass whoopin.

Classic bully type really?  In what world is the classic bully like 5’4 and not weigh 150 pounds til his 3rd year of college.  He’s a lot more of the “ weird autistic kid that sits alone” than the classic bully.

At the point he was pinned Davis was winning, had more takedowns and Hardy had been hit for stalling while Davis had not and Hardy only offensive points came on a slide by at the very end of the second period and Davis was in deep on a shot when Hardy cradled him up. By all metrics he wasn’t getting his ass whooped.

The PSU coaches may be putting an ass whoopin on him in the room this week for costing them a team point though.

Youve never met a small bully? He seems like a real jerk to me. And not just because of the Hardy incident.

At the point he was pinned, he hadnt scored an offensive point since the first period, he was gassed, he was snapped to his face or knees multiple times, the takedowns were two a peice (he got taken down into the cradle) and Hardy was scoring unanswered offensive points. He was getting whooped and he got pinned.

As for the practice room both he and levi should be punished with the severity that we all know wrestling punishment is capable of.

I was a little shocked by the result. I thought PJ would win a fairly close decision. Taylor went in with the game plan everyone’s employing against PSU. Stall. Hand fight, tie up the fingers, no action. On an activity scale of 0-10, with 0 being AJ and 10 being MM, Taylor was around a 1. Problem was PJ was around a 1.5-2.0…PJ did slightly more than Taylor’s nothing.
I thought PJ had the TD that one sequence but the ref and review disagreed. I thought there could be a case for 2NF in UTB, but there wasn’t and there was no review. A lot of people were clamoring for more stall calls against Taylor BUT PJ would’ve had to do something to force them, and he didn’t.

PJ has kinda offensively gone into a shell against the last few higher ranked guys he’s wrestled and has found himself in close matches and this one got away from him. He also appeared to gas a bit at the end, so there’s that.
They’ll likely see each other 1-2 more times at Big Tens and NCAAs. With an increased pace and more attacks, I’m hoping PJ reverses the result. 🤷‍♂️

I like your analysis here. ESP from a PSU guy.
