I have to be honest, I thought Duke would beat Taylor. Taylor has been wrestling really good, if he keeps this going into NCAA's, he might repeat.

When he was pointing to his head after the match…did that mean he learned his lesson from getting thrown around by Kasak last year, and now he’ll just hold position without any desire of offensive execution against elite guys to win in OT? If that’s his plan, I hope he doesn’t win. I watched his documentary a few days ago though, I am a fan of the person.

I thought it was strange he started shushing the crowd after doing nothing for 9 minutes and beating a true freshman in rideouts

I think they both wrestled very conservatively. PJ is a tremendous counter wrestler. Trying anything on your feet is very risky. Most wrestlers wrestling PJ will get impatient and make the mistake of shooting on him. PJ will score almost every time.

Sounds like they need to be more elite...

Duke was a senior team representative for us at world's.

He is not your average true freshman.

Happens too often perhaps. They’re emotional moments though and maybe in AT’s case with the recent history between PSU and Nebby, almost uncontrollable. I was hoping for and impressed with Hardy in the moments after the handshake that he didn’t have any theatrics. I don’t blame an athlete in a combat sport for that stuff, but it would be nice if it was a little more absent.

If you are defending national champ and beat a true freshman 2-1 in rideouts after doing nothing for 9 minutes it’s probably not the best time to shush and mock the crowd regardless of the freshman past accomplishments. Same thing with Ferrari, another national champ, your team just lost 27-12 and you narrowly beat the worst kid in the lineup who probably won’t AA and you re doing splits and celebrating like the ball just dropped on News years

I thought Duke looked tentative but was definitely more aggressive and had the more legitimate "offense."  Taylor looks to be looking to get to OT and rideouts. I can't say it's fun to watch when a guy has zero shot attempts.

I'm not going to lie but there just seems to be something wrong when guys win without scoring any offensive points.

True freshman talk is for elementary kid parents. These guys are old enough to go to war, compete in the Olympics and live on their own. They are grown men. It was a great strategy that beat someone who is a great wrestler!

I agree. It’s funny though, I know some people who don’t really watch or follow wrestling, that do know AJ Ferrari and his antics. That’s exposure for the sport, I’m just not sure if it’s good or bad. I watched past the last whistle to see what Ferrari would do myself. But I agree with you, just getting philosophical here lol

Maybe. There are only two in my mind that can consistently open up anyone at their weight right now, and that’s Mendez and Mesenbrink

I think Duke will beat him at least once this season, just not sure if at B10’s or NCAA’s.  And if Taylor keeps waiting for overtime he probably gets picked off by someone else

This is the team that made rings or something for finishing 2nd...what do you expect.

Ya, it's kinda like if you got cradled, pinned, and gave up 6 team points at home, and then tried to fight the guy who literally just beat ur ass in the match ......oh wait I think that was a PSU wrestler??

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

Antrell implemented the same exact strategy against Robideau earlier in the season.  It's on these young guys to chain together a few attacks to force a stall call against a wrestler like Taylor or just watch the film on Kasak who had his way with Antrell twice last year

Duke will get him next time. Book it.

This "true freshman" beat yianni twice and pinned him in the same day.  Just for reference, yianni was a four time champ who only lost twice in four years and was never pinned in college.

Duke was also our senior world team member.

Taylor is a dog!  He just prevented the next undefeated four timer.  The shushing was warranted.  Big win in Penn state's house.

What if your a 4x ncaa champ going on 5 vs a true freshmen with less accolades and a worse resume?  Should you score more?

If you get a win and and are getting boo'd by fans that apparently don't know what they are watching, I can't blame him.  Unfortunately, fans simply crying for stalling is the new normal now.

Taylor kept going for his underhooks and Duke was blocking off the whole match.   Neither guy a lot, Duke hit the one drag (off action Taylor initialed) that almost led to a score but otherwise was content to block off in the center and I guess hope for a 2nd stall call.

The first stall on Taylor was BS to start with.

No need to put quotes around true freshman. Putting quotes around implies hes technically a true freshman while actually not being one. He through and through is a true freshman.
