Im starting to think we might end up being the only country to attend our own Olympics before it's said and done ๐Ÿ˜‚

We'll still drop the baton in the men's 4x100.

who is boycotting the Olympics?

Based on information from early 2026, the Trump administration has implemented extensive, updated travel bans targeting citizens from roughly 39 countries, including significant restrictions on nations like Iran, Haiti, and various African and Middle Eastern states. While these bans have caused concern for international sporting events in the U.S., including theย 2026 World Cupย and theย 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the administration has established specific exemptions for athletes, coaches, and essential team staff, though not for spectators.ย
Here is a breakdown of the situation as of early 2026:
ย
Impact on Olympic Athletes and Officials
  • Exemptions for Participants:ย Following a December 2025 directive, athletes, coaches, support staff, and their immediate relatives traveling for the Olympics, Paralympics, and related qualifying events are generally exempt from the travel ban, allowing them to compete in the U.S..
  • Continued Vigilance:ย Despite these exemptions, LA28 organizers have acknowledged the "complicated" nature of international relations, with officials from countries facing restrictions (such as Zimbabwe) expressing concern over the overall environment and the ease of navigating the visa process.
  • Specific Restrictions:ย Reports indicate a focus on restricting transgender athletes, with instructions to scrutinize birth certificates for potential, permanent fraud bars.ย
ย
Impact on Fans and Spectators
  • Broad Bans in Place:ย Fans from the ~39 nations under travel restrictions are largely barred from attending major events in the U.S. unless they possess a valid visa issued before the bans took effect (June 2025 or January 2026).
  • Prioritized Visas for Some:ย The State Department has instructed embassies to prioritize visa applications for travelers attending major events like the Olympics, but this is primarily focused on higher-income, lower-risk travelers rather than a broad, automatic exception for all fans.
  • Potential for Boycotts:ย The restriction on spectators has led to potential calls for boycotts of events, as fans are considered essential to the atmosphere of the World Cup and Olympics.ย
ย
Specific Olympic & World Cup Context
  • 2026 World Cup:ย Iran, which qualified for the World Cup, is heavily impacted, with some team staff struggling to get visas. The US is allowing team staff but not fans from Iran to attend.
  • 2028 Los Angeles Olympics:ย LA28 chairman Casey Wasserman expressed "great confidence" that the administration will accommodate necessary travel for the Games, noting a "fully staffed desk" at the State Department to handle short-notice, team-focused visa processing.ย
ย
Wider Context
  • Administrative Actions:ย The administration has issued a series of executive orders tightened entry standards, including a pause on student visas that has impacted college-level international athletes.
  • Visa Freeze:ย A lawsuit was filed in early February 2026 challenging a sweeping suspension of immigrant visas from 75 countries, which, while focusing on immigration, reflects the broader, restrictive climate.ย

The Rump & VD Vance will fine more ways to insult other nations before the Olympics & if that doesn't work they will have ICE shadow them every minute of their stay.

โ€ Never attribute to inspiration that which can be adequately explained by delusionโ€.

Your blame is misplaced and should be redirected to the IOC which is a bastion of fiscal responsibility and top-tier ethical behavior that is rivaled only by FIFA.

It's also rivaled by the corruption in CA state governance.

Exactly, because no one is going to actually boycott.ย  It's just leftist propaganda.

I'm pro-America, so I want the 2028 Olympics to be a success.

The political leadership in CA and LA is ensuring financial ruin regardless of the Olympics.

If California goes into financial ruin, then the $276 Billion surplus they sent to the federal government in 2024 will be a fond memory for those 31 states that received more federal money than they paid in.

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

Such financial ruin that it's the 5th largest GDP in the world. Did you know that 30% of all US trade goes through California ports? Did you know that another $270B goes through the Cali-Baja border on a daily basis which is a little below top 50 GDPs in the world?

ย

But yes, let's worry about whatever flyover country is bringing to the financial table.

Food.

ย

California leads the nation in farm production, accounting for more than a third of U.S. vegetables and three-quarters of fruits and nuts โ€” a critical engine not just for domestic consumption but also for international trade and the global food supply.

The stateโ€™s agricultural exportsย totaled $23.6 billion in 2022, led by almonds, dairy and dairy products, pistachios, wine and walnuts, according to the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

ย

California is by far the greatest food-producing state in the country.ย  By far.

As for that ruinous economy:

Quote

In 2024, Californiaโ€™s growth rate of 6% outpaced the top three economies: U.S. (5.3%), China (2.6%) and Germany (2.9%). The stateโ€™s economy grew strongly over the last four years with an average nominal gross domestic product growth of 7.5% from 2021 to 2024

No shit.

So you are saying the "flyover states" (such an elitist pejorative btw), don't produce a tremendous amount of food as a whole?ย  Because that was the question, if you go back a couple posts.

No shit.ย  The first reference to "food" was made...by you.ย  Since we are now talking financials, now compare the amount of food produced by any of these states to the amount of federal tax money paid (by California) or received (most of those "flyover states").
