What has happened to Brock Hardy?

Is he injured, wrestled out or what?

His free wheeling style & going for moves all the time has disappeared.

Nebraska as a  team isn't doing that great but he is noticeable for his lack of production in the tough matches now. Appears to be a different wrestler.

Hardy is still very good.  He is a surefire all American.  Mendez is just a dog.  I don't understand all the hate on Nebraska as a team.  They look pretty good to me.

Surefire?  He should have lost to Bailey.  I would put him as a low AA, and I could see him falling in the bloodround.

HEW, most likely.  He's also 27 years old.

Brock Hardy is currently
25 years old.
He was born on April 27, 2000, in Brigham City, Utah.

He is already a 3 time all American.  Dude can wrestle.  He will be fine.

Exactly.  No covid years or extra redshirts.  Just did a 2 year mission where he didn't wrestle at all and then a redshirt and 4 years of eligibly.  It's pretty common and always happened.

Exact same situation/age as Matt Brown was when he won his title for PSU.

He did have a double redshirt.  First year was the 2021 free year and then redshirted 2022.

Is mid Jan the same as peaking in March?  Does Hardy know how to manage the grind and peak for NCAA?

this ^ (good rhetorical questions)

25 is still old, how are you supposed to keep an edge that long? He's married, which can kind of mature you out of the spiritual need to win NCAA titles, plus he always seemed like a level headed none egotistical type anyway. He might not have that little sprinkle of mental illness that some need to be great.

I am not disputing the fact that Brock Hardy is very good. He is.

What I see is not the more free wheeling attacking wrestler who would go into scrambles with attitude & generally come out on top.

He looks tentative at times and almost like he has gained an "Iowa Attitude" - as in Iowa when they were hosed by Penn State - not wrestling to win.

He does not seem to be going after the opponent.

Look at matches from past years & see how he looks now.

Yes, top competition in Mendez, but Hardy just did not look good at all. Mendez has not suddenly got "that much better". Hardy is having problems.

Saw this tweet yesterday and felt like Hardy falls under the same umbrella

Great to see Trumble stick up for Jack...but at the same time, the analysis provided was mean-spirited or even off.  6 years at the top level should give a thick enough skin that you can handle a little bit of honesty.  I think Jack will end up making a decent run at NCAAs, but there's always the scenario like Orine had last year.  Either way, he's tough as hell and wouldn't count him out.

Jestfully, of course, watching his wife during the dual (yeah, thanks B1G network 🙄 ), maybe she was in his ear Friday night and all of Saturday about the Bailey match and he wasn't into things 100% mentally for Mendez.

It would be surprising - but not a total shock - if Hardy wins 141 at NCAAs. He has the ability to beat anyone at the weight.

I was about to post something similar to what Trumble tweeted about Jack.  There are many things, both physical and mental, that can weigh you down.  I admire those that can maintain the mental edge for so many years.  I wasn't much of a wrestler, but my last year sucked.  I spent the first half of the season feeling victorious every time I made weight.  The second half of the season I didn't want to practice because every 5th time my knee hit the mat, it caused a sharp pain.  I won the last dual of the season and walked away a winner 🤣.

We see what happens when wrestlers get dinged up.  Ragusin was fantastic 2 years ago.  One loss going into B10s.  Struggling this year.  Everyone gave Teamer crap, but he was never 100% for Iowa.  We often don't know what's going on physically or mentally until after the fact.  That's why we all think it's the toughest sport in college.  Maybe being married and 25 in your last year of college makes you start thinking about other things.   Maybe Hardy is fine and Mendez is on his own mission, which is Hodge level stats (my theory).  Who knows.

I think many of the posters were too good as wrestlers 😉  I have great empathy for the 10th or 12th best guy in his weight class in the Big Ten who has to get his butt kicked every weekend.   There are over 70 teams that would take him right now if they could.

I think Hardy is a big question mark right now.  He has been killed by Mendez and also Vega and has not beaten anyone in the top 10 this year.

Same with Vega.  Is he really the 2nd best guy, or has he just beaten Hardy who is not as good as he has been in the past?  Vega has barely beaten guys like Bailey and Wells.  How will he do against someone like Stanich or Echemendia?  Echemendia beat down Bailey this year.

Hardy's schedule this year has not put him up against many tough opponents, which is sorta different compared to last years. He missed the match against Vombaur, and Stanich didn't go out when they had Lehigh. His best wins this year are against Simcox #17(5-0), Land #13(5-1), and Bailey #10(1-0).

He has four losses - twice to Mendez #1, twice to Vega #2. They were all whoopings except in the first match against Mendez where he lost on a late TD. Can anyone else beat him? Maybe Stanich and/or Echemendia.

Did anyone really expect Hardy to exceed Mendez this year? Obviously Vega is better than many expected.
