I watched the dual.  It was pretty exciting.  Down the final match that went into overtime.  Pinto lacks the same great intensity he had at Nebraska and Soldano seems a lot more disciplined this year.

I think I prefer 184lb Pinto.

The absolute most frustrating match to watch was that HWT match. Didn't that Rutger guy come from Harvard? He is pretty F'g dumb on wrestling knowledge. He already forced a stall call and a point, then attempts half shots a couple of times Vs pushing the pace the 3rd period OR in OT, and just stands in front and hand fights. He cost them the dual, 100% flat out cost them.

Catka transferred from Virginia Tech. Yeah, the HWT match was horrendous.

The OU guy who beat Pinto, Carter Schubert, beat the #6 guy last week in the Cliff Keen finals, so he's no putz out there on the mat. Plus Pinto doesn't have as good a staff or room this year as last year, of course his results would suffer.

I think Pinto realizes if he yeets too early he is going to be gassed by the second at 174. Unfortunately he appears to be gassed regardless by the third.

Rutgers needs to make a move if they care about wrestling. Goodale took them as far as he can. Their peak was obviously when Suriano and Ashnault won Nattys. Since then they have been falling into irrelevance.

Throw a bag at Jordan Burroughs and they will be top 10 in 2 years.

Classic Rutgers Catch 22 situation:

"Get Burroughs or Damion Hahn to coach us into the top 10!"

"We can't afford them."

"Well then who do you suggest we get that we can afford?"

And this conversation usually repeats itself 5-6 in a thread on the RU forums until everyone accepts the mediocrity we are doomed to stew in for a few more years.

In truth, this weekend was probably needed to knock Rutgers into the reality of their situation.  Constantly demanding a seat at the big kids' table (i.e. National Duals) while they can't field a team to beat an Oklahoma squad missing several starters.  Their only returning AA is regressing, their transfer 174 that was seen as a sure shot AA can't beat anyone in the top 8 and their HWT transfer is making dumbass mistakes that cost you matches that send the fanbase into existential crisis.  Their only claim to any sort of relevance is that every so often, they beat a top 10 team like Illinois last year.  It's really tough to watch as a fan.

Someone on the RU forum echoed the sentiment perfectly - "The last couple years just felt like a chore going [to matches]."  How can you feel about this fan sentiment as a coaching staff that constantly praises the importance of dual meets because they never bring much to the table come March?

HUH??? What the hell does "the last couple years just felt like a chord going (to matches)" mean?

I had no idea OU was missing several of their starters (I haven't seen the entire dual, just "selected matches"). OU does have a couple guys that I think have a good chance of making R12, or maybe even low AA.

I'm glad I'm not a Rutgers fan. They are never really much good at any sports, are they?

Yeah, Rutgers lost to OU. That's bad. Doesn't NJ produce a lot of talent? What's the problem?

Top Nj guys don’t go to Rutgers , this upcoming recruiting class they finally have a Delbarton wrestler committed, Delbarton is 35-40 minutes from Rutgers and been number 1 in Nj for years and Rutgers hadnt landed a single of them

WTF? Seems crazy to me, when I was growing up I only wanted to wrestled for OU or OSU. I guess NJ guys don't have "state loyalty"? Sounds pretty stupid now that I've written it, hehe.

RU needs to hire Jordan Burroughs. Let's see what he can do with a team. Maybe he'll be a disaster, or maybe a revelation, or something in between.

That’s not really a wrestling, or even a sports thing IMO.  A lot of people growing up in NJ don’t really want to go to Rutgers.  In the case of Delbarton guys it may be more academic related, I think a lot of their guys go Ivy.

I get it. It was much the same when I lived in the Los Angeles area. The area produced tons of talent in nearly every sport and most of the athletes got the hell out of LA 😄

Oh. I was thinking of musical chords, I failed to reckon that a Rutgers fan probably can't spell that well!
