When Goodale first started a lot of top Jersey wrestlers signed with Rutgers. After the team failed to meet expectations, kids started to go out of state. Give Goodale credit for reviving the program. It was nothing when he took over.Hopefully, he realizes that he has taken the program as far as he can and steps down. If he remains it is a selfish move and could result in a further program decline.

WTF? Seems crazy to me, when I was growing up I only wanted to wrestled for OU or OSU. I guess NJ guys don't have "state loyalty"? Sounds pretty stupid now that I've written it, hehe.

RU needs to hire Jordan Burroughs. Let's see what he can do with a team. Maybe he'll be a disaster, or maybe a revelation, or something in between.

Well for 1 Rutgers has always been so bad at sports that a lot in state look at them like they are a joke.

rutgers coaching staff has a total of 1 guy that’s AAed (Labriola) the 3 main coaches at Rutgers ( a big ten school, in the 2nd talent rich state in the country) never sniffed an AA and have tried repeatedly to bring in other coaches but no one accomplished wants to work under Goodale

Top NJ guys did go to RU for awhile but with the exception of Ashnault and maybe Del vecchio none reached their potential

Rutgers has a bad reputation in the state in part because crime has doubled in the area in the last 10-15 years , hell I worked with a guy whose son was a student and got murdered in a home invasion by members of the football team who had formed an arm robbery crew.

My family born and raised in NJ for a very long time and my father told my sisters they could go to any college in the country just not Rutgers and I know a lot of other parents feel that way , especially ones with daughters.

Rutgers won’t put together the resources to bring in JB, they’d need millions for RTC,NIL, recruiting and assistant coaches and I’m also a firm believer JB can’t coach somewhere that’s not a top 5 program. He doesn’t handle losing well and he would rub people the wrong way the second things started going south. I believe JB could take over an Iowa or Nebraska and win and elevate a program but building one from scratch? I don’t think he has the temperament.

my pick for Rutgers would be James Green, incredibly respected, did a great job coaching the youth Team USA for a few years, Caleb Henson gives green a lot of credit for unlocking another level in him. Add in the fact he’s a jersey guy , could recruit and train guys with world team dreams, he would have no issue bringing in big time assistants to work under him

Good comments by antitroll/grapevine. All I can say is if Rutgers doesn't want to invest in their program, that it will continue to slide to insignificance, the same as OU. Heck, they are already worse than OU. Plus the truly elite kids want to go where they know they'll get better and will have access to top-level RTCs. I only know of a few RTCs, does Rutgers have one?

How about Rutgers hire Cary Kolat? He's an experienced coach, and I bet he can attract some great assistant coaches.

Yea they have the scarlet knight  RTC that has crumbled over the years, they currently have Zach Elam and Sammy Sasso and maybe one foreigner.

i love Kolat I used to go to his camps when I was young but he’s a little too old school I think for modern day big 10 wrestling and he’s never been the strongest recruiter. He’s also mentioned it was his dream to coach at one of the service academies bc of his life long admiration for our military. I think those kind of kids are the kind that Kolat can get the most out of. Rutgers need someone that today’s recruits have seen compete, someone younger then 52

Navy is a much better job than Rutgers.

I can imagine the campus is a lot nicer. No slam on Rutgers, but Navy has a beautiful campus. I can't imagine Navy being able to pay a HC more than Rutgers, unless Rutgers is just super cheap.

I'm a little shocked that Kolat is probably at his dream job, but it adds to my respect for him that he admires our military.

Federal benefits

Army, Navy & Air Force is one of the sweetest jobs for a head wrestling coach. Not gonna compete for title ever but decent pay, and very sweet benefits. I would say after the very top schools the academies are next as far as sweet jobs.

Oh. I was thinking of musical chords, I failed to reckon that a Rutgers fan probably can't spell that well!

Lol.  I edited this comment within 3 minutes of posting it & I come back to you having a meltdown over it.  I must've really... struck a chord with you.

If he couldn't handle Rutgers he'd never make it at Iowa...

He would lose way more at Rutgers which is what he couldn’t handle. He can deal with a 1-3 losses while building Iowa. At Rutgers once they start dropping matches to Minnesota and Illinois and getting blanked by Penn state , that’s something I don’t think his competitive nature or ego could handle and after awhile he would start rubbing people the wrong way bc he doesn’t take losing well
