Micic used 2 Olympic redshirts , Colton Schultz may have had 2 as well

Micic was first to come to mind.  Stay in school long enough and you could get three...

Live and let live, brother. Life's too short to be wearing yourself out over something so insignificant in the grand scheme of things. In Who's #1 this year, literally every kid in the event outside of Zinkin was old for their grade. You can yell at the clouds all you want, but immorality is running rampant.

Doesn’t make it right.  I also have lost 0 sleep over it.  But it still is wrong.

Jayden James is actually young for his grade he won’t turn 18 until after he graduates high school

Knox is 20 and if he redshirts this season will be 21 when he starts competing in college

The first job offer I got in college was a company that held my first interview the night after my 21st birthday. I took a cab to the interview with a buzz, didn’t say more than I needed and showed up to the second round interview sober. Things for Braeden Davis to aspire to.

Jayden James wasn't in WNO this year. 😉

I was just using this years WNO card to illustrate how frequently elite wrestlers are "old" for their class. I get that he's polarizing, but I'll never, ever, understand why Bo's age is treated as the focal point of every conversation about him when it's so beyond commonplace in our sport.

I suppose the smooth brains just can't come up with anything new.

Echemendia is 26 and plans to compete again next year.

Brock Hardy (Mormon mission, but regardless) is 25 right now.

AJ Ferrari will be 25 for his final year.

I believe Fix was 26 at his final NCAAs.

Josh Barr will be a 25 year old senior if he redshirts just once.

Bassett could also forego redshirts altogether and graduate as a 23 year old like the majority of college wrestlers. Get a new shtick.

He is at the extreme end of it, and you are defending his cheating. lame take.

Which is why many parents choose to hold their child back at the onset of their early childhood education. The difference a year of maturity makes quite literally defines the rest of their life. As parents, our goal is to always do everything possible to give our children the greatest opportunities for success - mentally, physically, academically, athletically. No one expects to have a Jax Forrest or Bo Bassett or Lebron James etc. We just want to raise happy, healthy, successful kids and making a difficult decision when they are 4 years old oftentimes removing them from their burgeoning social groups as they begin to play together rather than play next to each other is met with fraught.

i am an idiot on the internet

If you are holding your kid back for high school wrestling success, you are lower than scum. We can agree on that.

It is cheating and not right. But almost every elite wrestler is at least a one year holdback. Some two. Then redshirt. The bottom line reason is most of us meatheads believe a kid is fully mature at around 21. So you will get manhandled even if your technique is way better. Bo Bassett is light years stronger this year because of the hold back he could be a 4 time NCAA champ. No holdback and Bo does not win it his freshman year. Not all but most kids are not fully grown until 20-21. So why get manhandled from 17-19. Ding ding, holdback plus redshirt then you will be ready. Then on the other end when do you start to regress. That age seems to be around 27. So the sweet spot is 21-26. So many elite dads will do anything. Really is a sickness 🙂

Whether you win a match or a tournament means nothing. It has no more significance than a game of darts or pickleball or shuffleboard.

People might pat you on the head for an Olympic gold but then they will immediately go back to living their own lives, and back to not caring about you.

Things that matter more:

1- Building a career that works for you and provides for you and your family. Building wealth.

2- Your mental health, physical health, and whether you enjoy your day-to-day life. For many types personalities I would add spiritual health here as well.

3- Spending time with people you love and people who build you up before you or they die.

Well to be fair, with the timing of the NIL explosion, Bo Bassett probably earned a few hundred more thousand dollars (even now, surely have been more had he stayed at Iowa) than he would have if he was currently a college sophomore

Does Micic get bonus points for doing it for two different countries?

Why? Amos redshirted as a true freshman (idk if Olympic or regular) then wrestled 2 seasons and had a severe injury at ncaas the second season and then missed the past 2 seasons recovering from that and now has 2 more seasons left I think that’s pretty reasonable

Nagao has the free 2021 when he didn’t compete then a regular redshirt, 2 seasons competing then lost last season to injury and now has 2 left. Both guys only get 4 shots at NCAAs.

this isn’t a Micic situation with multiple Olympic redshirts, for reference when Micic was a true freshman Obama still had a year left as president and when Micic finally finished up Joe Biden was half way through his term, we had 3 presidents during the course of Steven Micic college career. Can any other wrestler make that claim?

I saw Colton Camacho wrestled this weekend for Central Michigan; I believe he's a 7th year guy in his 3rd school (Pitt, NQ at Edinboro, and now Central Michigan)

Adding five more to the list you have all compiled:

125: Kyle Gollhofer, Northern Iowa
133: Lucas Byrd, Illinois
141: Ryan Sullivan, George Mason
149:
157: Jaivon Jones, Little Rock
165: Matt Olguin, Oregon State; DJ Shannon, Michigan State
174: Carson Kharchla, Ohio State
184: Jared McGill, Edinboro
197:
285: Taye Ghadiali, Michigan; Luke Luffman, Illinois

Is Little Rock sure Jones is eligible?  Wrestlestat shows him as having zero matches last year but no injury icon, hopefully they actually got that medical RS approved…
