This seems to me the smartest way to do it for them:

2025:

57:Duke

65: MM

RS: TK

2026:

57: TK

65: MM

RS: Duke

2027

57:TK

65: Duke

Is this the route you guys are expecting them to take ?

Will he make it through this season? Feels like he's wrestling on borrowed time and is one head collision away from having to hang it up for good. Shapiro too, which I guess is what makes the weight unpredictable

I worry about PJ wrestling this entire freestyle gauntlet and then going straight into an NCAA season.

Is the idea that they both want to start this year and that there will be a wrestle off with the loser redshirting?  Or will this be more of a roster management decision.  I would think that if 5 years of eligibility happens the roster management redshirts wont be a thing and it will be more difficult for top programs to hold onto good backups.

Why?

He has an injury history, and it will essentially be a year of continuous weight cutting dating back to April.

Do we even know how big he really is?

He wasn't cutting weight his senior year of high school, regularly weighing under his 170lb limit.

I'm not sure exactly I know he weighed in at 171 for a tournament listed on track that showed what the guys weighed in at. Yianni also made the tweet saying, "PJ cuts a lot of weight" and the general sentiment seems to be this is the only year he will be able to make 157.

Well, after January 1st, the weight limit became/becomes 172lbs, right?  I was referencing an interview where he (Duke) had said he wasn't cutting weight (not that he wasn't cutting 'much' weight, but not cutting weight at all) while at 170lbs.  That said, weighing 170-172 for a season then cutting down to 154lbs is a suck for someone who hasn't been doing it.  He did look more 'musclier' his Junior season than he did this last MFS season.

I am going off my own eyes and memory, as well as an interview that I don't remember which platform I heard/watched it on.  To be clear, I have old eyes, old ears, and old brain.

He looked like a brick shithouse his senior year and would highly doubt he was cutting anything. Him making and wrestling 157 this year is just speculation. When was the last time a true frosh took the reigns of a weight class right away? Levi?

Oh yeah I think he was probably weighing with food in his stomach when he was at 170-172 I do not think he was cutting at all. I feel like compared to when he wrestled Yianni he looks a smidge softer could all be in my head but I wonder if hes losing a little muscle fullness from holding his weight down/cutting. I guess my main point was for a 19 year old as good as him I would rather just see him focus on getting better and not caring more about his weight and not feeling that good.

Penn State has had a True Frosh as the #1 seed at 125lbs each of the last two seasons.

Also, Levi did not win as a True Frosh.

I know Duke looked massive, but he seemed to be a bit leaner/cut wrestling the same weight (154lbs/70 KG).  I imagine it could be the difference of him being ~160lbs vs ~170lbs.

We have seen it recently that not worrying about the cut has panned out for some.

Davis DNP at 125lbs, 5th at 133lbs the following year.  Did not look bigger.

Mendez 6th at 133lbs, 2x NC at 141lbs.  Isn't big at 141lbs.

What about Joe Sealey? Former who's #1, world champ, etc. So he is gonna be a backup for 5 years there? Why in the world would he stay? When he could start for 95% of the other teams.

Kasak wrestling in the Bill Farrell.  People are saying (including “insider” Basch recently accused of not sharing inside info) that this indicates he is likely redshirting.

2 things this week:

PJ's dad shared a post that insuated that PJ is going this year and Kasak is registered for the Bill Ferrell.

It's pretty clear to me that Duke will start the first 5 events with a sprinkling of Sealy if needed.  Unless there is a speed bump on those first five, Duke will be the starter.  First 5 match ups:

Oklahoma - Hippolito

Black Knight - Chittum

Drexel - Nichter

Lehigh - Rozynski

Wyoming - Hill

I don't see any risk to a loss for Duke out of the gate; however if they save one of those first 5 and hold it for Stanford, then you get the real test against Cardenas.  I think Cardenas has a real shot of beating Duke so it will be interesting to see how PSU handles the first 6 events.

Send Sealey out against Nichter.  Also, you could save one of those dates, have Sealey give it a go, and have Duke against NDSU's Drexler as well, which is the match after Wyoming.

In all honesty, you could have Sealey go for most of those and Duke could make up his 5 matches later down the line.  Duke did just wrestle U20, Seniors, and U23s.  He might be due for a little down time, or at the very least some form of acclimation back towards Folkstyle.

Chittum could beat Duke.  He has the horsepower to match PJ.

Chittum can beat damn near anyone if he can get out of his own way

I keep waiting for the Chittum training to get to the station and it just hasn't happened yet.  Looking at his wrestle stat he has had one win in the top ten (Teemer) and I think that was when Jacori got injured right?
