He had the other four pistols in a closed gym bag, didn't he? Not open.

Nothing wrong with owning firearms.

We have shooting teams in our High Schools. 4H and similar have shooting lessons and awards for it.

We have High School kids quality to train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs in marksmanship and a number have College Scholarships for it as well.

One local High School won the State title for Trap Shooting.

All the vilification of firearms and possession and ammo is foolish.  Almost as dumb as owning a fully electric car in rural areas like ours with winter temperatures often in 40 below zero territory.

High school kids have a valid license for them and no drugs in their person ?

As others have said, I think the issue is more the combination of the three things  (expired registration, guns, vape pen) together and not so much each one individually.

Doesn’t the drugs trump the registration?  Or just the cc?   Or both?

You mean a locked gym bag correct?  In fact he had everything in a locked car so really it was the police officer's fault for making him unlock his vehicle.

NASCAR drivers go 200+ mph so this  eliminates all speed limit laws correct?  🙄

Sorry, "vape pen" is (at least in Washington) the general term used for a THC vape pen. It's typically used for "discreet" smoking. Yes, it is different than a basic nicotine vape, but it's also an important distinction to make when the vague "travelling with drugs and drug paraphernalia" is used to describe a THC vape pen.

Trafficing and selling vape pens in a state that does not offer recreational weed is a common criminal activity. Pennsylvania does not play about weed. If he had multiple vapes, cartridges and guns hes going away.

Pretty sure many/most states have laws about smoking the weed while driving or even driving high especially crossing state lines.  It's been a problem for states next door the recreational states.  There's prob a reason the officer asked about a med card.

That guy is an idiot. If he had mutliple cartidges they can get him for intent to sell. Especially as he is bringing it into a state that doesnt allow recreational use. Bringing in cartridges in NOT any different than bringing in bricks except its physically smaller and can only be distributed in the amount of at least one cartridge as opposed to by weights. If Sammt had a bunch of cartridges he might get rail roaded hard.

PA is a patchwork of recreational use.  Nearly all the major cities have decriminalized recreational use.  Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Allentown, Bethlehem, York, Erie, Lancaster, State College, all of Delaware County have all decriminalized recreational use.  Maybe 25% of residents in the state live where recreational use has been decriminalized.  Some do not realize how different the consequences can be when crossing a county or municipal boundary.

Wasn’t the first gun they found concealed on his person or in the door ?   Not locked.   I also don’t think a zipped up gym bag (if not in the trunk) counts either.

This has been stated all over this thread.   He wasn’t arrested in a place in pa where it was legal.   If it was legal just a few yards up the block that wouldn’t matter.  It’s also super relevant if he had ammo with the guns which correct me if I’m wrong he did?

Kind've my point.  Only certain type cases qualify for locked inaccessible for transport.  A gym bag is not one of those whether "locked" or not.

Delta 8 thc and delta 9 thc is legal in Pennsylvania as long as it’s consumed on private property so if it was what he was caught with and not just recreational weed he could get those charges dropped as long as he didn’t admit to smoking it before driving and if that’s thrown out the gun charges become minor that he could probably get dropped if he transfers over his CC permit before court

I think the combination of 3 or 4 makes it worse.  Any one by itself he mightve just got a warning.  He'll probably get off or they might just press for one charge.  But the whole combo might really kill that coaching gig.

He was in possession of THC vape cartridges without a *required* medical certificate, plus some other weed-related items.  As per the Lehigh Valley News:

Quote

Police also discovered suspected THC vape cartridges that they said were not obtained through a valid prescription.

As Sasso was exiting the vehicle, according to police, an officer detected a strong odor of marijuana. He then saw what appeared to be packaging from a marijuana dispensary on the rear seat of the vehicle.

Police said they also observed a separate canister that contained remnants of a green leafy substance.

Sasso told police he does not have a valid Pennsylvania medical marijuana card, the affidavit said.
