I have made many myself

So have I.

Never arrested with dope, carrying a gun in an unregistered vehicle though.

That's a special kind of bonehead move...

Will this affect his job at Lehigh?

Take a look at what a few of the local newspapers online are saying.

Is this your standard Ohio State going away gift bag?

"before denying consent to search the OSU bag. He admitted it contained additional firearms, and police seized the vehicle and obtained a search warrant, court records say. The bag was then found to contain three handguns: an FN 9mm, Walther .380-caliber and Glock 27 .40-caliber, according to the court records."

To be fair, that isn't that many guns.  If he's moving from OH to PA, he'd be moving his stuff.  I can say, last time I moved, there were plenty more in transport than that!  If those other 3 are out of direct reach, and unloaded, I doubt that is a crime to transport the weapons if he's legally allowed to possess them in general.  The issue with the unpermitted carry is because that one firearm was concealed.  Cops will almost never just 'let it slide' on a potential gun charge, even if there's an understandable reason for it.  The charge may end up dropped, but they will still generally confiscate it and do an initial charge.  The drugs make it a more damning situation, but if it's low weight for personal use, I would assume a decent lawyer will be able to get the gun charge dropped.  The registration is nothing, and if it's light weight on the weed, that may get provisionally dropped as well.

It could always be something more, but looking at the circumstances from very far away, it sounds way worse than it is.

Good analysis.  However, I will say that it was made very clear to me when I received my concealed carry permit, that there were certain rules I absolutely had to obey. For instance, when I bring dueling pistols to NJ from my home in NY, I make sure to refer to it as an "interview, " as opposed to a "duel."

You make a lot of assumptions to get to "no big deal," e.g., "additional unloaded guns out of reach"; "lightweight on the weed," etc. I don't know where you are from and while you may have had three or more at some point in time, that is NOT typical behavior.

The whole thing smells bad and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he gets a little time for the whole kerfuffle.

I will say the original post seemed to embellish on the facts by being non-descript.

1. The "unregistered" vehicle appears to be his car with tabs that expired in April.

2. The drugs and paraphernalia was a vape pen and vape cartridge.

However,

3. The guns are a terrible look and seem hard to justify. Why was he travelling with a semiautomatic handgun in the drivers side door? Why did he have three other handguns in a duffel bag? That's peculiar.

"Borough police also said they found THC vape cartridges in the vehicle and that Sasso told police he did not have a Pennsylvania medical marijuana card."

That's more than just vape isn't it?  Idk not my area of expertise.

Sorry, "vape pen" is (at least in Washington) the general term used for a THC vape pen. It's typically used for "discreet" smoking. Yes, it is different than a basic nicotine vape, but it's also an important distinction to make when the vague "travelling with drugs and drug paraphernalia" is used to describe a THC vape pen.

Isn't THC a drug?

I think specifying what "travelling with drugs and paraphernalia" makes a significant difference in this situation. A personal THC pen is much different than travelling with a pound(s) of grass or other substances.

Pretty sure many/most states have laws about smoking the weed while driving or even driving high especially crossing state lines.  It's been a problem for states next door the recreational states.  There's prob a reason the officer asked about a med card.

In PA law enforcement treats driving while high the same as driving while drunk.
