So apparently there is a transfer portal window that will be open July 7th-August 5th for athletes that were "cut" due to roster limits. I have no idea if this applies to Arnold (doubt it, based on my understanding of the parameters) but it could be one possible explanation should be fine his way onto a team for next season

Brands would be doing Gabe's new program a solid if he transferred out as a Designated Student Athlete. The DSA status would follow Gabe and he wouldn't count towards his new team's roster limit. I don't see Brands doing it, but if he really wanted to be a dick, he'd Ayala, Caliendo, PK, Peterson, VV, and all seniors with no remaining eligibility after this season as DSAs.

You don’t have to be in the transfer portal to transfer. Arnold can go anywhere he wants and be eligible as long as he meets the academic progress requirements. The portal just allows you to be recruited. He isn’t going to have a problem transferring or having a roster spot unless he has academic issues.

Good point. I forgot that a couple Iowa wrestlers were able to nonchalantly show up to ND and wrestle a few months later.

This podcast says at 1:02 that they believe the reason for Arnold’s dismissal (or at least the final straw) was that the staff asked him to come to campus and he did not.  No mention of lying about a camp, but there was mention of him being on vacation with his girlfriend.

This was the first I’ve seen a media member talk about an actual reason for his departure. I was surprised Flo basically chalked it up to “well he probably wasn’t going to start anyway.”  Which is particularly stupid because they’d need him if Kennedy or Ferrari get hurt, maybe even Caliendo if it happened early enough to allow Kennedy to drop to 165.  And BOTH Caliendo and Kennedy graduate this year, so they could have easily just had him “medical redshirt” like Nagao and Facundo.

I thought it was decided those on the roster could not be cut now? I must behind, so this would make sense if this is the case now.
