The Coach being Cael.

A Wrestler who is setting records every time he steps on the mat. Then, some troubling allegations & apparently a law enforcement investigation becomes part of the scene.

Maybe he has reports of activity that can bounce this guy off the team, maybe out of school & even into prison?

Cael is one who plays it close. Keeps things quiet.

We know he is honorable & supports his guys.

Talk to the wrestler? Most probably. Maybe gets assurances the story(ies?) are not accurate, maybe just rumors? You want to believe your guy. You have a level of trust built up over a number of years. So, talk to him, set boundaries more firmly & want to believe it is jealousy or somewhat that is fueling the story. No police action is taken, just rumors? Six months and your wrestler isn't even interviewed by Law Enforcement - what do you think? Not a High Priority? At Penn State? Where Sandusky/Paterno is the living Nightmare that won't leave?

My guess - (only a guess, maybe a hope) is that Cael got reports & talked to Starocci & got assurances from him. Then, when nothing happens on the legal front, lets it ride?

Very different from J Robinson, who actively protected his guys from a system that would have had life long negative consequences - and paid dearly for it.

Is Cael too trusting?

Is he blind, maybe willfully ignoring reality?

Do his Assistants/Co Head Coaches figure prominently into this as well?

Will we get the facts, or not?

1.  Theft - Cael knew and it was passed along to University Park police, who have jurisdiction over the crime.

2.  Inappropriate actions on the mat - We don't know what, if anything, was reported to coaches, whether it was addressed by coaches, whether it was condoned or continued, or stopped.  It will come out.

3.  Photos on Group Chat - See above.

4.  Sexual assault - the most serious of issues.  It is unclear if the accusations were reported to anyone.  It clearly wasn't reported to law enforcement, or they would have been obligated to open a case file on it.

One thing that is missing from the reporting is the timeline of each step of the above events, and the timeline of awareness and response by staff.

You pose the right questions, but the order is wrong.   Will we get the facts, or not?  If yes, we can answer the other questions.

Cael is a narcissistic manipulative prick who happens to be a great recruiter and coach.  He doess everything in secrete while having fun. He thinks he is untouchable above reproach.  He is a complete ethical fraud.

No...

1. No, it was not "passed along" to police. Beau reported it to police directly. Cael did not encourage him to report it. "While Sanderson stated the program would support whatever decision Bartlett made to investigate the incident, Beau said it felt to him more like a public relations comment than real care."

2. Cael directly witnessed Carter assaulting teammates and did nothing. "Beau, Oliver and another teammate all told the Collegian that Starocci continued to touch other wrestlers inappropriately in the training room, sometimes in front of Sanderson. They also reported knowledge of rumors of Starocci’s sexual misconduct and inappropriate interactions with minors."

3. The photos were reported to Cael. "Beau said the photos were reported to Sanderson along with the theft, but nothing came of it from the coach."

4. The teammates reported the sexual misconduct as well. See #2

Do we know that? Seems like there's been evidence to the contrary.

Is is the exact opposite of honorable.

Who knew the fun was raping the light weight wrestlers on the team?

Is there a rule or law against minors in the sauna or locker room?  The "crime" is what happens to the minors, #4.   She was 17.   I was 17 as a freshman.  I'm pretty sure I could go in the locker room.

I think the issue is that she was still in high school and he was a senior in college (22 years old). Grooming her before she got to college.

At Sundusky U?  Is there a reason to take an underage girl to the sauna or locker room?

Star was just growing the sport by getting ideas for a womens wrestling program?

Oh, I thought she was a PSU student.  Man, he's making AJ look like a saint by comparison.

That is not the issue.  Creepy yes but age of consent in Pennsylvania is 16 years of age as long as there is not a defined power dynamic .  The issue is what she accused him of after she was invited to his home

The watch theft is dead in the water probably. Starocci is going to hide it from Cael and the police. There is no evidence. Not a problem for Cael.

The inappropriate actions on the mat *can look* like good technique. There is nothing there. Article did not mention if the coaches were notified of this being an issue/blatant, but did say that he had done in front of them. Ground to fire him? No way.

Cael could maybe get in trouble for the Snapchats, however it might require documentation or a police investigation to determine the facts needed to pin anything down on Cael, and that would require someone on the team to press charges and be the victim of this crime. I doubt that happens.

The girl getting groomed is not a problem for Cael. Cael being told rumors of sexual impropriety is also not a Cael problem. If he were presented with evidence, then that is a different story. This is Carter's problem, and if he sent explicit images to a minor, and that girl wants to do something about it, then there is a trail of evidence to get him in big trouble(although I heard age of consent in PA is 16, so that is confusing since you cannot send explicit images to a 16 year old, but a 16 year old can consent). Same thing with the alleged incident at his house, but these things go to court and you never know what the outcome will be.

I just do not see how this is Cael's problem. I am no Penn State fan.

No, they do not make those signs and there is nothing about anything like that in the Collegian article. The article alleged he brought a college freshman into the team locker room and sauna after he had connected with her via DM when she was 17. Honestly, to think you are allowed to bring anyone not on the team into the locker room is one thing, to bring a girl in there is a whole other thing.

Look, I know it sounds gross that I point out the age of consent laws in PA, and I think it is crazy that it is 16 and it should change, but it is what it is. Just pointing out a point of confusion for me about whether he broke the law with the explicit images texts. Assault is always a crime.

I just tagged your post cause you cited the same info as porta.  But imo this is the problem for the University and coach.  After Sandusky no minor should ever again had access to locker rooms, showers, saunas etc or certainly not without supervision by more than one responsible adult.  This space is controlled by the coach among others.  It appears the locker room sauna facility has security cameras so thre is means by which the coach and responsible parties know what is going on.

You ever met the man? Just curious where you're getting this... pretty unique opinion on his personality that has NEVER shown up.

Or are we just throwing the term narcissist around because everyone knows a couple words from the DSM-5?

I think if Cael were a "Narcissist," it'd have show up more in... literally any manner of his Wrestling.

Not that he couldn't have lost control over the program or there isn't a WHOLE lot of shady stuff going on, but this is bizarre, wreaks of jealousy and pettiness.

But I'm more than happy to be convinced otherwise. What makes him such a "narcissist?"

You make a good point. The article would have stated if she was a minor when she was in the sauna with Staroccia, so I assumed she had turned 18 by the time she arrived on campus, but yes, given the history at the university you would think there would be a lot of controls in place to secure the athletic facilities. If there is security footage of Starocci and Kasak entering the locker room, then there is footage of him bringing a girl into the locker room. The university could look for this and find out if Cael was notified. If she were a minor, then he better have reported it. But again, this age of consent law in PA feels contradictory to so many laws.

I'd suspect you'll always had kids using the facilities, but...yeah, I'm sure they have MUCH more stringent rules in place now.

Good on Beau for standing up. I just saw someone calling his wife a "whore" and that's why he's "suddenly got problems" in his life.

Not even a PSU guy either. Looks like a Iowa fan(which I'm ONLY pointing out because you'd assume it's PSU that goes after him).

I'm sure if I wanted to stomach it, most of the fans would be PSU. The guy also had a lot of Andrew Tate and...that Adin Ross/Strickland posts.

I thought she was 17 and a psu student.  You know… someone who goes to college like a regular human and goes to college instead of skipping kindergarten and doing 8th grade twice.  But hey.  Statuary rape is cool to you if she was in high school alone or college when 17?
