it's a really weird post and someone should tell him to stop. Regarding Gabe though, in a preseason presser last year Tom Brands made an offhand comment about Gabe and his off season activities. I think Bob was referring to Gabe not living "The Wrestler Life" as opposed to disparaging his mental health struggles. It was still a bad post though.

With the way things are going, I do wonder if we will have General Manager type roles in college athletics soon

I have a hard time believing his comments on a forum is the reason Bo defected.  Just not buying that narrative.  But I find it concerning that a donor believes he has that much power over a program.  That's reserved for the coaches and the athletic department.

Paraphrasing what willie has said so far "Bo wanted to go out and train at Iowa and wanted flights out there. Iowa did not allow that because of compliance issues. Tom Told Bill Bassett not to tell him how to run his program."

Bo wanted paid flights in addition to the 6.9 million dollars he was getting?

It sounds like that was part of it unless I am miss interpreting and he was not allowed to train at the RTC because of compliance but that does not make sense.

I'm watching this and does anyone else feel it takes Willie a really long time to get his thoughts out? I want to increase the speed of the podcast to like 1.5x here, it's killing me...

The spit-sucking and mouth-breathing makes it unlistenable.

Yeah. Lots of pauses and word finding difficulty

It's because Willie knows more than what he's saying and he is trying to find the words that will let him walk the finest of lines.

He does this often in these scenarios and it is purely because he wants to give us, the fans, the most information possible without crossing any lines.

He's thinking about what goofy face he's going to make for the YouTube thumbnail. At least it's thought-out. Justin just makes the same generic grin every time and tries to pass it off as authentic.

Probably Bill, not Bo.

Yeah good summary.  A quote used was “he wasn’t feeling the love.”

As long as it isn't the 'O' face we're all good.

If you say so bro. My experience has been that he does this often, even when trying to communicate something fairly basic or benign. Granted, I tuned out of "The First Word" awhile back so I don't see every show he's on, but I do listen to most of Basch and the "Brain"

couldn't watch- am work meeting / thanks for the update and info

he wanted flights / sometimes you don't get everything you want -that is life

as far as a coach telling a parent don't tell me how to run my program - zero issue with that

you're a parent Bill / don't be the next Shane Chittum

That Willie talked to an Iowa donor about this shows everything that's wrong with Iowa's program.   And Willie can't bad mouth the donor or he loses access to the person that's really running the program.

There's a reason Willie was so slow to answer as he had to think of how to not piss someone off.

Yeah I don't doubt this and in my opinion I wish there was someone in wrestling media that could get the insider information people want and release it without having to worry about burning bridges...

The whole wrestling media/journalism is based on guys just kissing ass to other wrestlers and programs so they can get their access and then it's always covering for everyone even though they know the truth about most of this stuff. Just kind of annoys me because I want to hear the juicy stuff!

I signed up for this forum solely for this discussion.   I would think he's headed to Penn State.  Van Ness is in his final year of eligibility in 2026.  Bassett comes in and redshirts to acclimate himself to college wrestling and then takes over at 149 lbs after Van Ness' last season.
