Hoping I can hear more idiot wingers w zero economic understanding once again explain how this is "short term pain for long term gain," simply regurgitating the Trump Kool aid, and rejecting what PhD economists will actually indicate.

PhD Economists are about like the weather man. They are somehow wrong at least half the time and somehow still have a job.

Huh? Complete b.s. without evidence whatsoever.

They generally all agree on this one so you're 110% wrong. But nevermind them. Listen to right wing lackeys instead w zero economics credentials.

Here you go. 5 times throughout history where economists were majorly wrong. But keep on dooms day prepping and tucking your butthole.

1. 1929 Wall Street Crash

2. 2008 Financial Crisis

3. 1990 Recession

4. Y2K

5. Dot Com Bubble

From one of those other threads:

Let's explore the concept of dumb as it relates to tariffs.

I just saw the formula Trump used to decide how each country's tariff was decided.

It his nothing to do with being reciprocal, in spite of the marketing tag line. It charges tariffs based on the size of the trade deficit with the US - not on whether there are any tariffs on us.

It is the most simplistic calculation possible. Call it the artifice of the deal. Take the trade deficit, divide it by how much we import from that country, then divide by 2. That is the percentage tariff on that country.

Why is that dumb, you may reasonably ask? Because many trade deficits are not caused by tariffs or protectionist policies. Many trade deficits are structural. Another country pays its labor less than we pay ours causing goods from that country to cost less. All we are doing then is importing inflation. So now we make our own t-shirts and sneakers? Who wants those jobs? Perhaps we can bring back some immigrants we just deported to handle the work.

If Trump really wanted this to work, without blowing up our economy, he would have spent time to actually attack the problem - protectionist policies and tariffs. Instead, he is too lazy to do the hard work and will throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Once again - The Dumbest Trade War Ever.

One thing I’ve noticed about this board being relatively new is, sarcasm doesn’t play well and human decency has lost its way. Is there no middle ground with which to work with?

Do not expect any middle ground around here. It is to the extreme on both ends.  This is where we are now.  It’s not USA USA, with enemies abroad anymore.  It’s Right Right, the left is the enemy, and vice versa.

Remember those couple months right after 911?  That was the UNITED States of America. Long gone now. I announce baseball games, and when introducing the anthem I say “…..Ladies and Gentlemen THE FLAG, and the UNITED (short pause) states of America” That’s my dream world.   But we’re far from it right now.

This is 100% correct. Simplle black and white calculation. We can do the math. But most wingers still won't believe this and will keep drinking the Kool aid that these are what we're actually being charged from other countries.

Well.....wait...maybe they WILL charge those tariffs now since nobody seems to be caving to the bullying and are instead fighting back.

Yeah...bull*I poop my pants, don't laugh at me*. Economists PLEADED with Hoover to not sign the 1929 tariffs(that PRECEDED the Market crash).

When have they been wrong on Tariffs?

https://www.paecon.net/PAEReview/issue74/Beaudreau74.pdf

---I've done my best to educate some of you clowns on this today. Smoot-Hawley was the first domino in the Great Depression.

Some WERE in fact wrong that Trump was dumb enough to do what he said he was going to do...

And these are just how stupid they are(but really, go back to the Economists begging...literally begging Hoover against the signing the Tariffs into law in 1930).

WKN Maybe we can disagree but share opinions. The other country can pay their labor because their goods are being sold. By importing their product we are paying their labor( half their gov steals the other half). we want to make our own autos, machined parts, pharmaceuticals, computer chips, we want those jobs back. Any immigrant doing these jobs over here would soon assimilate to citizenship to get his company benefits, there is no deportation for citizens.

The President of the United States is a gobsmacking moron who doesn't know ANYTHING about ANYTHING, but he's so surrounded by terrified sycophants and drooling wormtongues either hoping for a little bag of gold or cowed to death, so nobody will dare call him an idiot to his face. The entire Republican Party is a bag of useless phlegm who refuse to do anything about him.

We have never been so needessly and mindlessly self-wounded in our history before. Brace yourselves, beause it's going to get worse.
