I'm sure it is talked about on the Big 12 thread, but I'm not motivated to sift through all of the posts.  What are people thinking/saying about the situation.  I am a fan of DT's wrestling and I have never been an Oklahoma State hater, but it really looks like UNI got a bad deal here.

I hope the situation doesn't start a bad precedent.

In my opinion, the rule does more harm than good, especially at a qualifying tournament where a DQ means a season is over. As long as a wrestler is on the scale and makes weight at the correct time, is it that big of a deal if he's working out instead of sitting in the weigh-in area doing nothing? It doesn't give an advantage to be cutting 10 minutes later than the current rule set, but hurts the product to DQ the wrestlers. I also think it cheapens a UNI conference title if they win due to an OKST wrestler being DQ'd on a technicality.

At the end of the day, having the best wrestlers in these tournaments is best for the sport. As long as they aren't doing anything malicious and make the weight at the correct time, let it go.

And there's been no evidence provided that he was working out just suggested he was sitting on the bike but made skin check and weight.  Also no evidence that I have seen of this underweargate.

I agree, but there is allegedly a lot of weirdness.  Were told to get off the bike.  Got off and then got back on.  Weigh in areas are pretty serious now.  No standing on head.  No haircuts. No jogging in place.  Etc.  The wrestlers and coaches all know this.

We got ourselves in a lot of trouble in 97.  Rules like this are to ensure that we don't have any severe weight cuts and that everything is on an even playing field.

What about the fact that their opponents were told they were receiving forfeits?  How about the fact that the wrestlers in question got more recovery time off the scale?

Any truth to the lawsuit rumors?

There was a separate thread also, but not too much additional.  I don’t think most people actually thought they should have been DQ’d

Wee, don't know too much about it and haven't spent that much time looking into it.  Originally heard they were DQ'd and then were back in.

I'm glad they wrestled and from the little I've heard nothing egregious happened.  Yeah rules are rules but in some cases it's better to treat them as guidelines.

I just want to know what the altered underwear was all about.

Or do I?

FRL talked about it.  There are rules on what kind of underwear you weigh in in.  You can't wear a thong, for example.

Apparently you can't weigh in wearing these.

Rules are rules. It's not like these rules were implemented the day before the tournament. The entire season was contested under a set of rules and then the conference tournament was contested under another set of rules.

What other rules should we throw out because it is a national qualifying tournament?

I'm firmly on the side of the two athletes that were allowed to wrestle, but it's been pretty well documented with what happened. I think it's pretty obvious why their isn't any photo/video evidence of what was taking place during weigh-ins. CP did say that during the decision making progress, they did actually use surveillance footage from the cameras in the weigh-in area. At the end of the day, the person with the final say was some higher-up in the B12 that has no direct connection to wrestling. Word is that a wrestler cut off the waist-band of their underwear in attempt to make their underwear lighter.

Did they talk about how underwear was altered at B12 and by who?  Was that Belton if Jamison’s alleged transgression was riding/sitting on a bike?

Is a waist-band required?  Is there a minimum waist-band width?  Do we use the same waist-band rules in B12, B10, Pac etc?

Am I old if the last time I weighed in no one wore underwear?

No older than others.  Is it legal to wear the same briefs you wore 15 years ago as a 10 yr old?

Still waiting for Wkn's underwear chart.  We need data!

That isn't a fact. The Big 12 actually spoke to that part of it to the ESPN broadcast team. They said the athletes in question were never disqualified. They delayed their matches while they investigated it and made an official ruling.
