That year '22 both Kerk and Parris were dealing with injuries.  Kerk had to Med For out for 3rd and Parris took a loss to Cohlton Schultz.  This year is better.

Hard to beat Steveson at number one but the 97 tournament was pretty good with Kerry McCoy, Steven Neal, and Tolly Thompson.

The year with Konrad and Mocco and Cain Velasquez in 3rd or 4th was pretty great.  You can't top Steveson, but I'd take senior Mocco over Kervliet for sure.

None of Snyder's international medals came at heavyweight.  I don't think peak snyder has a chance with Steveson.

I don't see anyone in this class cutting down to 97 so I suppose that's a moot point eh?

Also, you cannot disregard Snyder beating Cox in college when they both were about to earn Olympic medals, Gwiz when he was about to win both of his, and Coon when he had his. And of course Snyder never weighed in more than 229 but arguing about weight classes is semantics when it comes to heavyweight apparently.

That's the one I was going to cite. Wasn't there a stud from Northern Iowa as well? An era of really athletic and big HWTs. 

Tommy Rowlands had some loaded weights also with guys like Garrett Lowney in there. It kinda feels like Stevenson's Olympic gold will skew people toward one of the years he was in it.

Oh damn...I've never thought about that. I don't see much upside there for Snyder but that'd be fun. 

Stevenson moves like a much smaller HWT(obviously). And Snyder is a grind you down with hand fighting and then attack type of Wrestler. 

I'd go about 60/40 in favor of the big guy.

I'd agree that college Snyder was just as good a wrestler as Steveson.  They both beat some incredible opponents during that time.  

I just think the 50ish pounds would matter quite a bit.

I’d take peak Gable over peak Snyder at 285.

I’d also take peak Parris over peak Gwiz, and peak Kerk over peak Coon.

But @PortaJohn has a fair point, 2022 wasn’t peak Parris or Kerk

The last several years have been the best years for heavyweight ever.  The number of age group world champs and medalists is amazing.  In fact, in terms of international accolades, i would say that heavyweight has given us some of the best weight classes ever.  (Gable, Kerk, Wyatt, Trumble, Cassioppi, Kueter, Schultz, Feldman, Davison(?))
