Chittum to Ohio State

Interesting.

Cannon actually beat Chittum earlier this year in Chittum’s first competition of the season. He does have a redshirt available, unless they think Cannon goes 65

Both of you can go somewhere else with that political talk. This thread should not get sidetracked by two guys spouting economic theory.

Unless Cannon goes 149...

Life pro tip:  if Pat Mineo tells you it's raining, he's actually peeing on your back.

Come on Vak.  As I said at the outset, it NEVER made sense that PSU would be seeking this kid out, as he's not really an upgrade.  You guffawed.  But what I said isn't exactly rocket science, is it?

But now Welsh has confirmed it. Again, unless you're going to call him a liar, the desire to go to PSU initiated with him, not PSU, and he considered other offers before settling on his initial first choice of PSU. It wasn't Welsh who reported PSU, it was the rumor train, which you were happy to jump on.

But let's say for a moment that the initial rumors/reporting were accurate, and he really did commit the same day he entered the portal.  That's also consistent with him knowing beforehand that he wanted to go to PSU for its room, without regard to NIL, isn't it?  I'd get your point if Welsh announced the same day he entered the portal while holding up one of those 8-foot-long lottery checks to boast of his NIL largesse, or if there was credible reporting of same.  Or if he had announced a transfer outside the portal window (like certain Iowa transfers, *cough cough*).  These things tell you there was improper solicitation going on.  But there was none of that here.  Yet you jumped right in with the smears and Lance Amstrong stuff.

Life tip:  I do not know what Pat Mineo says.  The reporting came from Willie Saylor and Justin Basch.

And the idea that I have to take what Welsh says here at face value is laughable.    Lets assume for the purposes of this conversation that there WERE improper conversations had between Penn State and Welsh; he's at Penn State now.  Do you think he's going to rat out the institution he just committed to for recruting or tampering violations?  GTFOH, lol.

As to Teemer and Buchanan, both guys were graduate transfers and thus not beholden to the transport window.  According to Willie re: Teemer, he had an offer standing in front of him for a long time and he was just unsure what he wanted to do.

First, whatever the payout, I think Iowa totally betrayed Glazier, a had a perfectly solid homegrown 197lber.  Had it happened like Welsh -- e.g. Buchanan enters portal, wants to go to Iowa because he loves Iowa's room, initiates contact and goes to Iowa despite better offers elsewhere -- I'd have no qualms. No starting spot is guaranteed.  But what Iowa did is shocking, going outside the portal window to lure in a one-year-wonder with NIL money to take his spot and run him out of Iowa City. No one, certainly not Buchanan, has ever suggested that contact was initiated by him, not Iowa.

This is such a ridiculous take I'm not sure where to begin, especially given it's from a guy advocating for Penn State.  Glazier DNP'd (and did so again this year).  Did you see the lineup Penn State put out there this year?  The reason Iowa is so far behind (not that they would be competing with Penn State anyway) is because of doing it exactly the way you want them to.  They relied on homegrown lesser recruits for years.  It was not working.

Second, and more broadly, I think Iowa is cannibalizing itself, its culture and its recruits with its over-reliance on late-career ringers.  Parco, Teemer and Buchanan collectively had 16 years of wrestling elsewhere, with one year left, bought in to take over a weight from the existing recruits and get wins while the homegrown guys either watch or leave.  What does it even mean to be a Hawkeye wrestler anymore?  Not much.  Truth is, Iowa coaching isn't developing talent and is glossing over their failures with a slumlord's money. Take away the transfers, and Northern Iowa has surpassed them, but their fans won't hold Brands accountable.

I dunno, your Mr. "Take Whatever the Wrestler Says at Face Value", right?  So listen to Stephen Buchanon talk about his time at Iowa and what it's done for him and his love for the sport.  Or watch his teammates mob him after he wins a title, including both guys that lost in the Finals earlier that session.

Or listen to Patrick Kennedy talk about his love for the Brands brothers and what they did for him.

Seems like the culture is just fine.

People keep saying Iowas culture is so bad but when has a starter for the next year ever left Iowa? I know Suriano left PSU, but what about Iowa?

The guys over at Bucknuts 247 forum seem to think Cannon is going up, some think possibly even two weights.

They also think Bouzakis is going to bump up two weights and start at 149...

...take it all with a grain of salt.

I feel like you’ve been playing this “Kennedy should transfer, he’s not going to start” game for 3 offseasons now and he’s started every one of them.

They have Paddy up at 165 next year. Either Chittum or Cannon are planning to suck down to 149 or they plan to redshirt Chittum then move either Cannon or him up. Chittum at tOSU seems like a weird fit to me.
