That's about half of what Shadow President Musk claims to have slashed out of the budget.  Nope, nothing to be concerned with here.

ETA:  As mentioned above, this is to highlight my own wrongs and hold myself accountable to reading a second source.  Mock away.

“No $400M Armored Tesla Contract” says Elon Musk as State Dept. Drops Order from Procurement List

The U.S. State Department is not planning to award Tesla (TLSA) a $400 million contract to purchase armored vehicles.

At least that’s what appears to be the case following the latest twist in a bizarre story about procurement and Tesla armored vehicles that has raised questions about Elon Musk’s role within the new administration.

The State Department was planning to buy $400 million of “Armored Tesla” later this year, according to its 2025 procurement forecast, first detailed by reports in Drop Site News and the New York Times.

Responding to developments, Musk replied, “I’m pretty sure Tesla isn’t getting $400M. No one mentioned it to me, at least.”

It’s worth noting that the original State Department procurement form was from before the Trump administration took over.

The last paragraph there is telling.   This was not a Trump inspired purchase.   It was on the books before Trump landed.   This is not happening.   NO WAY you say!!   Oh the tragedy of NPR not actually doing due diligence and reporting faithfully on the truth.

If I'm not mistaken, I think Trump may know the owner. I'm sure if he talks to the owner, he could probably negotiate a good deal and save the taxpayer some money. Sounds like a win, win to me.

what was incorrect in this story?

The original story suggested that the purchase of Tesla vehicles was put forth by the Trump administration to benefit Mr. Musk.  E.G. Conflict of interest.

Oops.  This potential line item was added before Trump took office and before Musk began his role at DOGE.

And the fact that Tesla has now been erased as the provider of said E vehicles.

I don't think it was so much an order that was cancelled, but an appropriation that has now been cancelled.  they will still put money in for armored e cars, just not specifically from Tesla as it was previously written by the prior admin.
