How in the world did the government spending get so far off the tracks? In less than a month Elon will and his 20 year olds will pry 1 trillion dollars out of the politicians cold dead hands. will

fair enough. but there's one party rn that's trying to curtail some of it while the other is having a temper tantrum about something that shouldn't be partisan (or confusing)

Nah,

Moderates in both parties are working to make things better.

The hard R and hard L are focused on causing chaos. They don't help anyone in the country except themselves.

It would be relatively easy to see - if it weren't for the party nut-huggers who keep trying to hide it.

(And this place is chock full of them.)

Your words, your example, was a bill, signed into law, that required 1bil sent to the UK for candy corn.  When Congress allocates money for executive branch agencies it is to be used in accordance with the President’s policy and within U.S. law.

If Biden signed a bill into law to send candy corn to the UK until 2030, Trump can’t just stop sending it. It is funded by a literal federal law. He doesn’t have that unilateral power.

His personal candy corn policy is irrelevant.

Another relevant example:

Idiots on the far left complained that Biden was “funding” Israel. “Genocide Joe” and all that. Turns out, federal law compelled the federal government to supply/sell Israel certain weapons and at certain rates. Biden (and Trump) literally cannot stop doing it. It’s been in every NDAA since I cared to look at them.

You’re delusional.  Just look at how the agencies operated during the last four years, the immigration law that was broken and redefined.

No - because that's a pile of BS you've just posted.

Stop getting your news from facebook or wherever the heck you get it from

It's a mystery as to why dummies around here keep getting suckered by such dumb internet hoaxes.

And get my news from the same places you do?  No thanks.  I’ve seen the results, and they’re not pretty.

Please provide specific examples.

I’ll go first: Federal agencies (CBP, for example) arrested a record number of illegal immigrants attempting to cross the border. Are you suggesting that they DID NOT arrest a record number of people?

Why aren’t they still overrunning the border?  Why are so many being deported now and weren’t during the last four years?  There haven’t been any new immigration laws passed.

A spending bill that allocates money for X, Y and Z that is signed into law is just that: a law.

The president, as the head of the executive branch, is supposed to be in charge of executing the law.

Are you admitting that you don’t understand how government spending works?

If the government (House, Senate, President) collectively vote on and sign a bill into law, and it says we have to buy $1,000,000,000 of candy corn and send it to the UK each year, that’s the law. The next president doesn’t get to unilaterally decide to end that. Congress (House, Senate) have to vote to repeal it and the President has to sign THAT bill into law to repeal it.

ok. that's fine. there's two different things. 1) the asinine waste these things fund and 2) the method to reverse that funding.

the amount of dunderheads on the left that are still supporting/whitewashing the justification of this spending is nearly as incomprehensible as the funding itself - which was signed into law by dem pieces 'o sh!t

i like to think moderates are good...but i really believe they are why we are where we are right now... allowing all this waste

They authorize discretionary funds for them.

Yes.  And those mis-spending and dis-spending those funds proved to have proven to have defective discretion and now the discretionary privilege is being taken away.  No constitutional crisis at all is happening.  This is a very natural response.  The elected representatives and executive of the government is REQUIRED to use the temporary authority that is invested in them in support of those who elected them.  Their job is to know, judge, and support or sanction (i.e. remove) the discretionary actions and the people who made them.  They have simply found defective discretion - lots of it - and are reacting properly.

People who tolerate me on a daily basis . . . they are the real heroes.

Ill agree that DOGE is actually accomplishing something worthwhile when they actually cut the bigger programs like military (like Clinton did) and social security.

Anyway else catch the news that rv has become a Trump adviser?

Senator John Kennedy on DOGE’s USAid findings so far.

John Kennedy voted for that.

If he doesn’t know that, that’s on him and his staff.

The method is to pass a new law.

Not some people who have no official government role breaking into government facilities and government computer systems, and likely committing crimes in the process.

That last sentence - are you suggesting that Trump’s budgets didn’t include many of these things?

But unlike Musk’s kids, they have an actual need to know, which is a requirement under the law to access any government computer system.
