As of now he is the heavy favorite and should be expected to get bonus on anyone outside of Buchanan and perhaps Cardenas.  Ferrari is petrified of him.

It was the year of our lord 2021 and no 197 had separated from the pack to lead the tribe to the promised land. The false prophet known as Buchanan was the favorite going into the season against the babe swaddled in orange and black freshman cloth. But lo he was defeated many times for the babe fired on all pistols and brought forth a six hunnid sixty five pound deadlift baby. And now the prophecy is doomed to repeat itself for 197 is the forbidden wasteland of unrecognized heavyweight talent.

I would love to see a Ferrari run into a Barr at Nationals

it'd be dissappointing I think. Ferrari is almost as evasive as J'den Cox, he'd lose a decision and not get his hair messed up.

Barr is smart and will make it obvious that he's being the aggressor if the Bakersfield guy doesn't have plans on wrestling

He has been impressive so far but I can’t see him beating Ferrari, Buchanan or Cardenas. Is he a legit title contender this year?

IMO, Barr is a 'maybe to probably' contender at this point.

As opposed to Buchanan (likely), Cardenas (likely), and Ferrari (maybe).

I won't rank the others, but you get the idea here.

Yeah, history tells us to doubt a superstar freshman upperweight at Penn State. Those guys never make a run, as opposed to upperweights from Iowa and Michigan, who always live up to expectations at nationals.

We know who you ride.

Calling a Penn State upperweight who has quality wins and looks fantastic "maybe a contender" is an opinion someone should only have if they've been in a coma for the last 15 years.

You're just in a rush. Barr may very well be a legitimate contender, but until he beats another contender, it's fair to call him a "maybe contender." Lilledahl was being credited as a contender and just lost to Dean who is a mid-ranked 125. We don't yet know where Barr is in comparison to Buchanon, Cardenas, or Ferrari. He could beat them, or he could be a step behind. We just don't know yet. But if you want to blanket everyone that wrestles for PSU as invincible then go ahead. McIntosh was pretty good, but how many titles did he win?

Both 197 and 125 have a lot of parity.  Barr beat Beard who beat Cardenas last year.  Peterson had a win over Ramos last year.

What are Cardenas big wins?

His best win this year is Salazar. Last year he finished fourth and Buchanan is the only guy that placed higher than him that didn’t graduate.

I saw some of his results and while transitives don't always apply in wrestling I think Barr would wear him out.

I have no idea who wins but I know Barr is in the conversation.   He has wins over 2 of last year’s AA’s in a weight that doesn’t have clear separation.

You might not see him being able to beat those guys but he can see himself beating those guys.

Of course he is a legit contender. 197lbs doesn't have a returning champ.

Ferrari is a returning champ at the weight, just not from last year.
