Even after a terrible election result, you have to take your joy where you can find it, and watching these tech billionaires immediately screw over the MAGA base (and Trump go with the billionaires....again) is hilarious. In the end, this is a good result for America, but it should not be limited to "highly skilled" immigrants. America was built on the back of immigrants, not just "white collar" immigrants, but blue collar/labor force as well.  Fix the immigration system so it doesn't take 10+ years to gain citizenship, that will do far more to curb illegal immigration then the current catch and release system.

I remember a client of my wife's former boss being apprehensive about her until she explained she wasn't Mexican. Then the client said "Oh so you're the good kind of immigrant." 🙄

you do understand they are talking about

1) limited number

and

2) a process. a documented process

what part of this crazy, complicated theorem can't you lefty nut bags figure out?

what part of 'multiple-time convicted rapist/murders that were deported again and again and have repeat offenses' doesn't register in your beetle brain?

I’m more convinced the H1b visa is a scam.  Most of the H1b jobs don’t require a college degree, which is why half of our STEM graduates won’t take those jobs, and the companies that hire them have a bad habit of laying off American workers to fill those jobs with foreign workers who don’t have the right to negotiate their wages or change employers.

These guys are going to do what McKinsey, Deloitte, et al., did to US manufacturing in the 70s/80s.

They are going to take good paying tech jobs that Americans currently hold, and effectively offshore them, in the name of a quarterly earnings statement. H1B or not, “efficiency” (higher profits and fewer American jobs) is coming.

Enjoy!

I’ve been in IT my whole life.  They have been offshoring tech jobs for *I poop my pants, don't laugh at me*….  25+ years in pretty large volume.    Ireland.  India.  Poland.  Ukraine.  Russia.  China.  Everywhere basically.

Who has a problem with immigrants?

Ya.  Nothing will change in tech…… Other than trip having yet another story that can’t be confirmed based on hearsay.

Is it hearsay if they post it all over social media?

People like Vivek are the people who turn Boeing into a company that chases squeezing the last dime out of every process instead of making excellent, reliable products.

He doesn’t actually believe what he’s saying; he wants to hire H1B visa holders do the same jobs for half the pay (or less).

Isn't there a difference between legal and illegal immigrants?   Isn't Trump and Musk and Ramaswamy the border czar going after the illegal immigrants?   Leaving the legal immigrants alone?

Not sure what the deal is.   If we have a high tech worker here illegally, they need to go.

One of the newly elected congressmen from my state was born here and his dad was handed a deportation order for overstaying his visa. Of course he's a Trump guy.

One time.   At band camp.  I saw something bad.

I know this one guy.   Who saw this thing.  It was on tv.

if you don't see that the US culture/establishments continue to lower the bar in both their systems and rhetoric, i don't know what to tell you. i guess you're just bad at paying attention.

you're going to sit there with a straight face and tell me that the current trend is one in which meritocracy is increasingly valued?

That explains quite a lot. If you've been in IT your "whole life", I'm glad you've done well in middle management.

Your take on Elon's stance on immigration is pretty funny. Since everyone knows he is an immigrant.

Not hard to imagine a billionaire looking for more cheap immigrant labor to expand his wealth.

So...

1) What's that number, exactly?

2) What is that process? The documented process. What is it?

Or - maybe - it's a smoke screen that is fabricated to sucker people into thinking there is a plan (but there isn't.)

No plan with no numbers and no documented process = more political BS.

The difference this time is it is hiding Elon, the unelected ultra rich immigrant who only cares about himself and should be kicked out of any position of influence in US Government.

We don't need an immigrant calling the shots in DC because he has a lot of money.

We know better than that.

I don’t do management.  I’m an individual contributor.  Thanks.

You can add some comments or theory as to why musk is going to offshore everything in IT.   When they’ve been offshoring stuff in IT for a quarter century though.   What thoughts do you have of relevance on the topic ?

I'm fine with his stance on immigration, though as I mentioned it shouldn't only apply to "high skilled" immigrants.  My main complaint is that the current system is broken, to the point it typically takes a minimum of 10 years for a person to obtain citizenship, which is one of the main factors in the illegal border crossings, the byzantine nature of our system.  Blue collar workers should have just as much access as "high skill" workers.  Anyway, it wasn't me or people who think like me he was calling ***I am an idiot and can't use a better adjective***ed on Twitter (this time, anyway).  It was the nationalist part of the MAGA movement who seemed surprised by Elon's take.

You can add some explanation for why you tried to change the topic from Elon wanting more migrant workers in the country into a completely different topic about offshoring. You seem to enjoy twisting the conversation.

Why are you trying to twist the conversation? Sure, you may just be stupid. That's obviously possible.

Tell us more about your 'whole life' as an 'individual contributor' in IT. I expect that'll be a doozy.

Headshuck. Seriously. Why do you insist on posting like a dumdum?

  • Elon Musk does not run the GOP, catch up - that is an integral part of this exact discussion
    • Your post is 100% off the mark. Elon is experiencing pushback from the GOP. He's not MAGA.
  • Wealthy donors take pictures with politicians - ummm... yes. We all know that.
  • Do we like donors or not? Donors pay piles of cash to sway elections. Both sides.
    • Are you in favor or not in favor of donor influence?
    • Same question for lobbyist influence?
  • Elon is a donor - but that's no longer what he is limited to. He has purchased very special access:
    • He's Trump's best buddy and seems to be very close to "co-President" at this point
    • Trump has always revered the wealthy... I suspect Jesus would be sad.
    • I know I'm sad. I never would have believed wealth could buy you a US President. Never.

If you're going to post some junk from Twitter, make a point. I've posted my opinion. Let's hear your opinion.
