Wrestlestat.com has it 21-12 OSU and thats with Witcraft losing.  The only way Witcraft wins is if by pin.  No way Arnold beats Plott, it just can't happen bur sure stuff happens.

That’s with no Teemer and OSU getting a major at 157.  Flip that to an Iowa decision and it’s 17-15 OSU which is about where I’d have it right now.

Looking at this matchup really shows how much Iowa has struggled to develop talent from within.

Ayala and Arnold are the only guys on the roster that originally committed to Iowa and seem like solid bets to AA this year. Brands went on an unforeseeable run a couple years ago to AA but he hasn't impressed so far. Kueter could AA this year, and I think he'll be a title contender once the top guys clear out following this season. Ferrari should be ready to compete at a high level next year, but they don't have anyone else truly notable on their roster. FWIW I am not a fan of Iowa and their bravado, but the sport is undoubtedly better when Iowa is thriving.

And before anyone starts listing off transfers on the OSU roster or any other teams, this is not an anti-transfer post. It's just notable that Iowa has brought in returning AAs at 4 different weights and still have two weights without a top 20 guy, and two weights with fringe AA/r12 guys.

If you ask this question of Oklahoma State would there be anyone other than Plott?

This looks about right given what we know right now (save Teemer) but stuff's gonna change.

I'll sig bet you, 5/1 odds. meaning five weeks for you one for me.

You think he'll beat him but you want 5/1 odds?

I think that means you don't think he'll beat him.

You implied it was likely.  5/1 says you don't really believe what you wrote.

You're not making sense. I didn't say Arnold is going to beat Plott. I just challenged an outlandish claim with a more reasonable one.

I’d be surprised if Plott loses in the Iowa dual but stranger things have happened

It’s not the same situation, but this convo makes me think of the 2011 dual between Iowa (8) and Penn State (1).* UI won the dual but PSU the NCAA (and then on and on). The point: Iowa is crafty, and the first time they meet, I think they will be tough to beat. It’ll be a good test either way, for both teams, and a fun transitional moment in this historical rivalry.

I have nothing to add to the who's-gonna-win debate (toss-ups, bonus, upsets, etc), but I think that OSU is gonna double-up on takedown totals.

I feel like we tend to underestimate Iowa's dual prowess. Last year was tough with back-to-back loses to Michigan and Penn State, but  both teams had a talent advantage. When talent is about even TNT have a history of outcoaching other teams (Kevin Dresser Exhibit 1A).

Until I see how David Taylor handles a match day squad (does he set up his lineup optimally? does he know in match tactics/adjustments? does he know when to and when not to throw the brick? can he manage the clock?) I think I have to lean toward TNT and Iowa.

125:  Spratley DEC Petersen (3-0 OK State

133:  Ayala MDEC Witcraft/Hughes (3-4 Iowa)

141:   Jamison DEC Block (6-4 Ok State)

149:  Parco DEC Young (7-6 Iowa)

157:  Teemer MDEC Fish (11-6 Iowa)

165:  Caliendo DEC Amine (14-6 Iowa)

174:  Hamiti DEC Iowa (14-9 Iowa)

184:  Plott DEC Arnold (14-12 Iowa)

197:  Buchanan DEC Surber (17-12 Iowa)

285:  Hendrickson DEC Kueter (17-15 Iowa; this match could easily be bonus up to a pin, Hendrickson an absolute monster)

So I'd say Iowa a slight favorite on paper.  Hamiti is a bonus monster, but has faced Kennedy before and not bonused, and Brands is EXTREMELY stingy on defense.  Parco could find his way to a major, as could the Ok State guys at 125 and 141.

If you like Cael you should like DT.  His corner coaching is very similar and his assistants are well behaved.  If you lean toward TnT and coaches who run out on the mat throwing fits then you won't like DT.  Its prob harder to see his approach/style on TV than if you are there in person.  They are managing tactics & time well to get majors & techs.  I'd say his brick in Bedlam was optimal time to throw.  They prob learned something from first couple duals.  Pretty sure Gilman threw the brick in Utah V in Sprately match.  They lost it and needed it in Amine match as Barraclough had locked hands in last 5 sec of TB.
