Gotcha.  Fair enough.

So make fun of the execution with 2 people.   But the idea is obviously a good idea.   Plus 2 people should be able to identify more than 1 person could in the given time frame.   Perhaps it is a good idea to have 2 people working this.

Interested to see a look at a comprehensive plan.  Ways they are planning to attack waste.  In the mean time I hope Musk can refrain from continuous trolling.

Really there must always be one person in charge for things to get done.

Putting two people in charge is certain that only the most agreeable things get done.

Putting too many people in charge ensures nothing gets done.

I don't expect anything to get cut at all.  I wish it though!

It sounds like you don’t want this to happen?   Who is more qualified to cut fat than Elon?

would or did the left have a plan to cut spending?

all joking aside.    Investing my tax dollars in trans potato pumpkin education for kids in Thailand is not something my $$$$ should be going to.  I’m sure he can find loads of programs that should just go bye bye.   That’s not the job of the govt imo.

Are you referring to the New Oversight and Accountability Board which has already become a partisan *I poop my pants, don't laugh at me* show?

I am not.  I was referring to the Government Accountability Office.

@VakAttack - Your Musk comment about gov contracts reminds me of that time when Trump happily took credit for tax write-offs.

Wonderful example of the fox in the henhouse, did Trump close those tax loopholes?  Nope.  Reduced corporate tax rates to 21% and most corporations paid way less than that because of loopholes, plus there was no closure on individual tax loopholes he brags about using in this clip. The tax system is designed to protect the uberwealthy and go after the middle class.  Trump exacerbated this issue as president.

That brings us back to the whole idea of this department.  We all have to pretend as if Trump wasn't already president once.  When he was president, how was government spending?  Oh, huge spending constantly throughout?  Gotcha.  But Republicans and conservatives can, every 4 years, pretend they care about this issue and then do nothing about it for 4 years, great.

But before Musk and his brother could cash in on their first big venture, the bootstrapping brothers had to rough it by living in their small office.

We showered at the YMCA and we were so hard-up that we only had one computer,” Musk said in 2014. “The website was up during the day and I was coding it at night, seven days a week, all the time.

Musk says. “He (Dad) was irrelevant. He paid nothing for college. My brother and I paid for college through scholarships, loans and working two jobs simultaneously. The funding we raised for our first company came from a small group of random angel investors in Silicon Valley.”

And the comment about Tesla is bananas.  You give zero credit for what he did for Tesla!

Yeah I'm sure his dad didn't help them at all. 🙄 Or if he had not succeeded he couldn't have gone home and lived relatively well. You probably believe that Trump built himself up with just a million dollar loan from his dad too.

There’s nothing more funny about this than the left’s response.  It’s set up more like a task force than a department, it has a termination date.  What’d he say, 492 agencies?  It’s been reported for decades that the bureaucracy is rife with redundancy and waste, inefficiently interfering in problems that don’t exist.  After working at the department of labor, one Thomas Sowell said he learned that a large portion of the work, and top priority, was to ensure its own existence, with little or no concern whether it helped anyone.  They’ve got a year and a half to do what the GAO hasn’t, because it’s staffed by career bureaucrats.

You probably believe Trump would have been better off to have put his money in an index fund.

Do some research.  No one cares what you are "sure" of.

Strange how Trump is appointing a immigrant from Africa to do this, after he began his political career with a racist lie about a rival of his being born in Africa.

What do you have against African immigrants?

He has literally billions of government dollars that go to him and his companies, and now he gets to have a say in what government spending is wasteful.  If you can't see the huge, huge issue with that...more power to you, I suppose.

What experience does Elon Musk have with government efficiency?

He has a history of running two of the most innovative companies in the history of planet earth.   Maybe that has something to do with it.  Other than free speech…. What has he done to pizz off the left?

who would you suggest?

Are you suggesting we should be funding with our tax dollars trans research in some random country and we need to keep programs like that.

in the list they published.  Are some of those items in your opinion not good cuts?   Which one of them help musk?

Governments are not corporations, nor should they be.  I would suggest anybody that doesn't have billions of dollars of government contracts and thus doesn't stand to be able to wildly enrich themselves from within the government.  The rest of your BS is just nonsense.  Elon is no more free speech than his predecessors, you just don't care enough to look at his censorious actions and/or don't like the people he's censoring and they're ideologies so you're ok with it.

Untrue. How do you think the waste got there in the first place? So that this Senator, or that Representative, could brag to their constituents that money was being spent in their district (and that is the benign view). Everyone wants to cut the other guy's waste, not their own. But they all make deals with each other of the form, if you vote for mine I will vote for yours. It is mutually assured destruction. Kind of like the cop shows where the dirty cops need to make sure ALL the cops are dirty.

Now, Musk's idea to publicize it all has promise. It is the only thing I can think of that MAY work. But let's not be naive and pretend this isn't promised in every campaign, but never delivered. Trump's swamp draining promise is still a pipe dream, after all.

I side with @VakAttack in the worry that the fox will be in charge of the hen house. The government already has a Musk problem. He violates numerous rules for contractors, but gets away with it because they no longer can launch a rocket without him.

There is a saying in finance. If you owe the bank $1 million and cannot pay, you have a problem. But if you owe the bank $100 billion and cannot pay, the bank has a problem. The same is happening with Musk and the government.

So what if they identify and eliminate all the waste except for space x and tesla stuff.   Is that still bad?

That's the point, there's literally no way to verify it.  It's just "trust Elon!", a man with an obvious, huge conflict of interest.
