I did this thread last year and there were some really good, well thought out picks.

So, which two teams could combine their lineups to beat Penn State in a dual this year?

I think Nebraska and Mizzou *might* be able to do it but I'd still lean Penn State. You'd have to get Smith over Lilledahl, then at least two upsets at 141 and 157 to have a chance. And, limit bonus at 165, 184 and 285.

Based off of WrestleStat:

Nebby/Mizzou vs Penn State

125: Smith/Surtin vs Lilledahl. Smith could beat Lilledahl. 3-0.

133: Van Dee/Moore vs Davis. Davis. 3-3.

141: Edmond/Hardy vs Bartlett. Bartlett, 3-6.

149: Lovett/Gioffre vs SVN. Lovett, 6-6.

157: Conway/Taylor vs Kasak. Kasak, 6-9.

165: Steed/Wilson vs Mesenbrink. MM by MD or TF, 6-13.

174: O'Toole vs Haines. O'Toole, 10-13.

184: Pinto/Hawks vs Starocci. Starocci by MD, 10-17.

197: Allred/Elam vs Barr. Elam, 13-17.

285: Andrews/Nitzel vs Kerkvliet. Kerkvliet by MD, 13-21.

OK State/Iowa vs PSU

125 - Sprately = Lilledahl

133- Ayala > Davis

141- Block/Hughes/Jamison < Bartlett

149- Parco = SVN

157- Teemer > Kasak/Facundo

165- Caliendo < Messinbrink

174- Hamiti/Arnold = Haines

184- Plott/Brand < Starocci

197- Buchanan > Barr

HWT- Hendrickson = Kerk

You would have three strong favorites for PSU, three slight favorites for OKSt/Iowa and four toss up matches. I would lean PSU in all the toss up's however.

I am not buying Hamiti/Arnold=Haines or Hendricksen=Kerkvliet

Two guys with championships (and one at the weight) against a bunch of guys wanting.

What about the Parco = SVN when SVN soundly beat him last year?

I think people are relying on the ol' "We don't know what SVN will look like coming off a knee injury, therefore guy he beat twice = SVN" thing.

Meanwhile, he's doing live goes with Nick Lee, and not wearing a knee brace.

I am sure a better mind (ahem @Wrestleknownothing) might already have the data, but there aren't (m)any people who improve after their 5th year (6th/7th/8th).  Parco lost to four younger wrestlers last year in SVN, Whalen, Watters, and Henson as well as a guy he had beaten previously in Gomez.

That said, even if SVN was the same wrestler, or slightly more rusty, I don't think Parco is beating him.

If SVN comes back in the same form he would certainly be considered the favorite. I do think that Parco will benefit from the Iowa room though and could make a small jump in performance.

I know that Dean Hamiti had a bad NCAA's but the dude put up 11 on Mesenbrink and looked really good in that match. I also think he will make a leap working with coach DT and having the partners that he does not at OKSt. I think he is Tier 1 with KOT and Haines. Wyatt and Greg had a very close match in the semis two years ago at NCAA's. DT was just talking on Flo about working with Hendrickson and how he is now experiencing positions and situations wrestling live in practice that he never had experienced with his training situation at Air Force. Again, Greg should probably be the favorite but are you shocked if Wyatt wins that match?

Very, very different lifestyle than at Air Force!

In a world where Larry Owings beat Dan Gable, I am not shocked by anything but I would still not say Hendricksen=Kerkvliet until I see Hendricksen=Kerkvliet since I have seen Hendricksen<Kerkvliet at three tournaments in a row.

They wrestled twice in an 8 month period (March and Nov. of 2023) and SVN won 7-2 and 5-1. Hard to say they're equal.

Just realized you don't need me. You can do this using @cowcards website.

Part of my reasoning is I want to see PSU lose lol.

Except SVN suffered a major season ending injury since then. That’s why it’s = until we see that SVN is back to form.
