I have to wonder what kind of shape DT is in.  I'm glad he is competing, but it seems like a very late decision and he has probably laid off training since WTT in spring, where he did not look like his old self (gaining zero takedowns on Brooks).

He's got to get by guys like Hidlay and Mirasola and Mach and Schulz first.

Ah that is a good question.   He can't have just made this decision, that would be ridiculous.   He has had to be at least doing some cardio to get in shape.   I would think he has thought about this for a couple of months since he lost the trials and this was an option.   I personally don't think he was happy losing in the trials, not because he lost, but because he didn't do anything to win.   That's not DT.   So I think he wants redemption and be able to give it 110% effort.   I think if he lost giving 110%, he would be accepting of the situation more.  I don't envy Zahid right now.   I'm sure he thought he had this locked up.

Just my take.  I'm glad he still has fire apparently.

we don't know when the decision was made. I severely doubt he's haphazardly decided to show up out of shape.

Per Basch and Willie David told the team a few weeks ago he was doing this. I assume its been on his mind for at least a month or longer.

I suspect he is thinking that another World Championship would be a nice way to go out, and lock up his recruiting classes for the next couple of years. Remember Cael came out of retirement in 2011 after losing a bet to motivate his team---and John smith won the 92 Olympics as the OSU head coach and then an NCAA team title 2 years later.  DT was at PSU when Cael came out of retirement.......Lots of street cred if he ends up winning and medaling again. With a bye to the finals, not sure there is a downside for OSU unless he gets blown out.

Especially since Sadulleev has announced he is also entering 92.

Of course he is. Who wouldn't...

Going out losing your last two matches can't sit well.

So he officially confirmed this?

What's more is that a few years ago, just after 2021 Olympics, he looked like he got REAL big.

Videos and pictures of him recently show him appearing much more slim.  I think it's doable.

Yes.  Something along the lines of "if physically able, I will compete at 92 kg Worlds, God willing.""

Does physically able also mean logistically allowed?

Wait, are you saying Taylor has a bye to the WTT Finals?

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

No, but at the same time a great resounding yes.

He will have to wrestle matches to get there, but they won't be matches.

But he was a 2023 medalist at a different weight, does that give him one of those semi-final byes?

Those are specific to Olympic Trials and if they are medalists at non-Olympic weights.  One example that was given during these were that Snyder would get a bye if he went up to 125 KG because he wasn't a medalist at a non-Olympic weight.

Per Flo: According to USA Wrestling’s team selection criteria, as the 2023 World Champion at 86 kg, David Taylor will be the #1 seed in the 92 kg bracket at the World Team Trials. As a 2023 world medalist at 92 kg, Zahid Valencia will sit out to the best of 3 finals. That means David Taylor will have to win at least 3 matches to get to Valencia in Sunday’s finals.

Pre-Seeds:

  1. David Taylor (Cowboy RTC/ TMWC)
  2. Trent Hidlay (Wolfpack WC/TMWC)
  3. Jonathan Aiello (Pennsylvania RTC/TMWC)
  4. Michael Macchiavello (LVWC/TMWC)
  5. Eric Schultz (Nebraska WTC)
  6. Aeoden Sinclair (Tiger Style WC)
  7. Patrick Downey (NYAC)
  8. Marcus Coleman (Cyclone RTC)

Nope.  But he may have a first round bye in the round of 16 if everyone shows.  Then the winner of the 8/9 match
