Draws for Men's FS 57 & 86 kg

Recommended Posts

I was really pleased with the draws for Spencer and Brooks.  With the new bracket at 57 you have Higuchi, & Abakarov both in the top half along with the Indian Aman who I think is one of the best guys.  I think the bottom half of the bracket is a bit easier.  Brooks gets the # 1 seed from Kazakhstan but is opposite Yazdani, Amine & Kurugliev.  I don't think we could have asked for much better than that.

Agreed, people are going to hang in the fact he is the one seed but brooks got the absolute best draw he could have.

Aaron Brooks got the best draw possible

A better draw would have been to face the 4 or 5 seed out the gate.  Let Dauletbekov and Ishiguro face eachother before he gets to them.

Agreed but anywhere on the bottom half of the bracket would be a worse draw.

True. But he was either getting Dauletbekov or Yazadani in the first round.  And he drew the better matchup and the far easier half of the bracket.  So, bet draw possible

Medalists in the top half are Dauletbekov, a two time bronze at 86kg in 2022 and 2023, and Gamkrelidze, a silver at 79kg in 2023.

Ishiguro had wins against Amine and Zahid in 2023 at Zagreb. He also beat Dauletbekov this year in Hungary ranking series.

Shapiev lost to Amine for Bronze last year but won the Olympic wrestle-off.

Ramazonov got in via Last Chance Qualifier. He beat Marstellar and Dauletbekov in 2024 at Zagreb

If anyone gets bored

At about the 30 second to go mark I was thinking " OK, there were some early mistakes, but Spencer is learning and improving intra-match. He's got this." Then I was thinking, "hmmm, I hope they worked on closing out a match."

But since I am confident they did. I got Spencer in the re-match.

Just rewatched and took some notes for my own benefit; might be helpful to someone else here.

– Zou scores 2 TD off of reattack
– Spencer scores 1 pushout w/ 2-on-1
– Zou scores 4 feet-to-back off of a really solid shot; Spencer's defense was mushy here (1 - 6)
– Spencer scores 1 pushout from seatbelt
– Spencer scores 2 TD from front headlock
– Spencer scores 6 leg lace immediately after TD (10 - 6)
– Zou slow to get up; medical time
--- break (10 - 6)
– Spencer takes some half-shots; looks content w/ being defensive
– Not much action til 20s left
– Zou gets 1 pushout on a solid shot where Spencer's defense was mushy again (10 - 7)
– Immediately after, Zou gets 1 TD with a shot off the whistle that Spencer didn't seem to expect or defend against (10 - 9)

imho Spencer's really gotta watch his defense. When he picked his shots and stayed in good position, he was fine, and we all know he's capable of doing that. The shots that Zou scored on were really well executed by him but also had next to zero defense from Spencer.

Either that or Spencer gets an early TD and techs him with his par tarre 🔥
