He lives like 12 minutes from there, yeah?  Shouldn't seem like much of a coincidence.

That is wild. I cannot imagine he would give up the amazing thing he has built at AWA. What would be the AWA succession plan there? But how cool would it be if he just brought his brother with him. Keckeisen and O'Toole as RTC athletes for the next quad. You could also imagine some of his current AWA guys would flip on their commitments. Its a bunch of ifs. It is not going to happen.

The huge factor no one mentions is the difference between being a club coach and even a diligent highschool coach, let alone college. If Askren wants to be engrossed in wrestling and really in the thick of a competitive enterprise, a college position is where its at.

It would explain why he's leaving FRL and he joked about wanting to coach and build a team to rival Cael. I thought the idea that he could not balance being a club coach and doing an 8:00 am podcast did not really make sense but that's very different if he becomes a college coach.

I know you can't see that he liked it based on that image, but that should enough info to confirm if you want. @nhs67

How many of the AWA guys enter the portal if (when) this happens?

I’d be surprised if the ones in their last year or two did, O’toole, Keckeisen, etc.

I’d also be surprised if Mesenbrink did.

But the ones that are going in next year or are only a year or so in? Sinclair, Millard, Riddle, some of the others I’d expect to go home. I’ve been told to expect all the Minnesota AWA kids to head over if he’s hired. That’s the part I feel confident in.

Completely agree with this. Even if the Badgers got Sinclair, Riddle, Millard, Whiting, etc it would significantly impact their team in a positive way.

Wasn't Max recently the leading candidate in the Askren family to take over at Wiscy?  Was he in the building?  This is certainly interesting

Askren won't last long at the college level where they have to abide by rules with recruiting and contact of prospective athletes. He would be a thorn in the side of compliance.

I think so too. I feel like running a big club, managing kids and parents, setting up rules and expectations, all are part of the college equation. If he takes this job, all of college wrestling has to be excited for the possibilities.
