Max Dean's last regular season match - surprising

Jimmy Cinnabon

Recommended Posts

A 9-5 win over an unranked Ty Bagoly from Clarion.  Dean was taken down twice and ridden out to finish the match in the 3rd.  I was kind of surprised by this lackluster performance to end his Penn State career at Rec Hall.

Is Bagoly actually pretty good (don't think so based on him being unranked) or is something up with Dean?

I can't imagine he was pleased with his performance.

Max suffered from a bout of diarrhea.  Lost 17.38 pounds in the process.  Day of the match Cael asked him to sit it out but being the man Dean is he decided to wrestle.

This is insider information and I feel somewhat guilty for sharing this but Dean is currently in the hospital. He might die.  Let us pray

on another site I think they said it was 83.83

Let's just hope that he survives in the hospital and makes it to NCAA's.  I mean it's going to be hard for me to argue against Cinnabon when he makes his, "Why PSU won't place in the Top 10" thread and I'll be clinging to Dean's death, Brooks' loss to Pinto in the Quarters, and RBY skipping for a gaming tournament as excuses.

Pinto is on fire 🔥 so we just need to find someone to sponsor and organize the gaming tournament.

They wrestle a local-ish non-conference team as the last dual every year.

Is this some sort of knock on PSU?

No need to respond to the jealousy.  It's nothing more than a yearly aspersion.

Jeez you guys are sensitive.  I'd say the same thing about Mizzou if they scheduled such a weak non-conference opponent for their last home dual, so don't get your panties in a wad.

Do programs make money by scheduling nonconference road duals that are not home and homes?

I am not sure how the financials go in terms of a B1G team wrestling a mid-major like a SoCon or some of the MAC schools, I do know typically they do a two year agreement the B1G school will be home one year and away the other. The benefit for the mid-major is that they are able to promote their product during a home dual and get a larger crowd than normally attended. Not sure if this answers your question at all but it is a cool aspect to scheduling

It's a good promotion opportunity for mid-major programs at home for sure. I was wondering if they get paid when they take a road dual with a big program. In football and basketball (especially football) small programs generate a lot of revenue by scheduling away games with power 5 teams even though they get beaten badly. But it may be different in non-revenue sports like wrestling.

In football and basketball, this sort of thing happens all the time. For a wrestling example, occasionally Penn State (and possibly Iowa) does wrestle guarantee duals (ie. Penn State pays Clarion more than Clarion could hope to make in Tippin Gym, called a guarantee). (I know in the past Penn State has given Lock Haven a guarantee dual, not sure if that's the case with Clarion, or if Clarion is hosting next year)

The last time PSU scheduled Clarion, it was a one for one.
