  1. The difference is the B10, B12, Pac12, etc almost universally let their athletes in. The Ivies do have fairly stringent academic standards in sports without ultra rich donors.
  2. The degree to which an Ivy lowers standards depends on the sport and donors behind it.
  3. Why aren't they using him at all though? It has been a year.
  4. I'd say it's 50% due to the merger and them realizing that Logan Paul and social media influencers make better WWE wrestlers than Olympic champions. 50% due to Gable just not being "good" at WWE "wrestling." And honestly, I think him being true to himself and not pretending to be one of these awful characters is a good thing! It's better that what he is actually good at is a real sport-and he is one of the best that I have ever seen do it. What WWE career? He has been working for the company for a year and has barely been used at all.
  5. I think there are two options for success. One is to create a persona that catches on with their dumb audience. The other is to be absolutely massive like Lesnar or some others, which is in itself a persona. Gable doesn’t have either of those. What he does have is being an elite athlete and incredible wrestler, which doesn’t matter for WWE and seems to matter less than ever for UFC.
  6. Logan Paul is now the main draw in WWE. Ferrari obviously won’t me be in it, but my point is he would have excelled.
  7. The problem may be that WWE decided he isn't their type. In WWE, actual wrestling talent means nothing compared to being a character like Logan Paul or roided-up like Lesnar. Gable is an incredible wrestler, but maybe not what WWE is looking for. And with UFC and WWE merging, he probably isn't what UFC wants either. Over the past five to ten years, UFC's business model has shifted from being an actual sport to more of a WWE-like show. The UFC WWE crossover athlete that will sell PPVs is Logan Paul. I'm sure Jake Paul will be one as well. A.J. Ferrari would also have been an absolute star in both UFC/WWE if not for the fact that he seems to want to go to prison. And of course, people who put on exciting fights like Bo Nickal will have success in UFC, just not at the level of a Logan Paul.
  8. Anybody have insights into what happened here? Did WWE decide to focus on Logan Paul types instead? Obviously this is great news for the sport and team USA. As a fan, I'm very happy to see this.
  9. His nickname has to be Lillehammer
  10. The reason NC State is now a great program is because of him, so the idea that it’s competitive with OSU from a job standpoint just doesn’t hold up. At OSU, he’d get more and better recruits than he can at NC State and I’m sure the training environment is better. It’s one of the best jobs in the sport, but unfortunately Smith is well past his prime…The Fix scandal and then Ferrari debacle really cemented things. He’s a legend but it’s time bring in Pop.
  11. Culture change is needed there. Bring in Pop.
  12. Ferrari taking off his clothes in public isn't going to help his ongoing defense.
  13. That's amazing. I wonder if he will be a candidate for the Artemis moon landing mission (I don't know how many missions in the future that will be). First wrestler on the moon!

    UFC/WWE

What do people think of this merger? 5 years ago (and for the 5-10 years before that), I wouldn't miss a single big UFC event. It was an exciting sport. But to be honest, I feel like the sport has basically become a sham/joke in the past 5 years-more about spectacle than actual competition. I think the merger with WWE only solidifies this and will take it to the extreme. I think this decision by UFC is a bit of a capitulation to a realization that they aren't ever going to become mainstream, and they are entirely reliant on the spectacle created by people like Mcgregor, Lesnar, etc.
  15. My favorite book about wrestling. Thank you for mentioning it.
  16. How about a side by side comparison with bleach? Also, I’ve said before exposure time is critical, and the guys using the uv mops were not spending 5 seconds on each spot. With a long enough exposure, I think it could be an effective device to include in addition to a normal bleach cleaning solution. Obviously high intensity uv over long periods kills pathogens, but i really hope nobody is using these devices in place of bleach.
  17. When you sterilize the filter, how long is the exposure time?
  18. Over extended exposures of course. Is there any evidence that the 2 second exposure works?
  19. I have serious doubts that the UV Mop actually works at all in the way it is being applied (quickly running them over the mats). But if every other protocol for washing the mats has been maintained, and the only difference is the addition of the UV MOP, I wouldn't expect an increase in infections. I am curious if the NCAA actually tested this product prior to implementing it, and whether the amount they washed the mats with normal bleach solutions has changed because they now have these UV Mops.
  20. I want to see the Russian athletes compete in the olympics-it is really a tarnished event if they don't..But they can't be allowed to compete given what is happening. It would not be fair to the Ukrainians. Hopefully the war ends soon (with Russia either deciding to bring their soldiers back home or getting defeated on the battlefield) and we can go back to seeing the best athletes in the world on the biggest stage.
