Can a professor from State U bet on State U winning? If so, why is this allowed but an 18 year old who is wise enough to vote not be wise enough to bet (not on his own sport/competition)? Can the president of the university bet? Does the 18 year old have more access to inside knowledge than the professor or the president? The 18 year old can spend my money by voting to raise my taxes but he can not spend his own money? AND, we think the an 18 year old betting with insider knowledge (my roommate's boyfriend on the lacrosse team has a sore knee?!?) will skew the Vegas odds? This is all a bucket of spit. All of the moralizers stating "a rhule is a rhule" better never drive 1 mph over the speed limit nor forget to claim all the cash his wife in the garage sale as income on his taxes. Period. P.S. Pete Rose should be in the MLB Hall of Fame.

T-Rex, named Barney, had a carbon flux capacitor, doncha know? He invented all the carbon, then fossilized it, then made it greenhouse our planet exactly 2,000,007 years after he became extinct. Then he made Greta mad. The rest is history. I'm hot and need a break now.

I Want to Take a Job as a High School Wrestling Coach
Lipdrag replied to ILLINIWrestlingBlog's topic in College Wrestling
I have actually thought about how useful shock collars would be in practice. Not for when kids are dogging it but for those times that they are about to do something stupid in a drill or in a live go like reach back on bottom or droop an arm over a shoulder on top. The upsides are tremendous - immediate feedback, no more stopping the wrestling to make a point, I can coach from across the room, we can even set the shock/sound low enough so that the kid is not embarrassed by others knowing he or she has just been coached - again. If only we can get a human rights waiver and a "don't tell your mom" agreement signed I think it will work. -
I liked seeing all of the mat wrestling in the old free style. Freestyle today is simply a takedown fest. The silly little leg lace roll throughs with a guy sitting on his backside through the move just don't signify dominance of actually putting someone's shoulders near the mat. Of course, the ref in the match against the German Turtle did the whole sport a disservice by not stalling him out.

Any post that includes Mars Blackmon and Catholic contrition rites on the same line is genius level work. Oh yeah, and all that analysis, data, details, etc. That was cool too.

A Wrestler's Most Important Ability

It's gotta be the shoes. (sorry to use a basketball reference here but as a kid who grew up in Chicago . . . ) -
NIL Salary caps are on the way - probably 5 years or so away. Just like scholarship caps came along to stop certain football programs from putting all their own guys and then all of the possible credible competition on scholarship. We already have free agency (transfer portal) in college athletics. A salary cap will soon follow to help competitive balance. It is not in the interest of any single team/program to conserve competitive balance because they are properly incentivized to "just win, baby". The central organization must make the rules necessary to avoid the social Darwinism that ultimately leads to extinction when there are no more lesser critters to eat.

However, I do think Consuelos should have been kicked out of the tournament. His act is simultaneously understandable and unacceptable. So I guess I contradict myself. The parent should be held accountable in the moment (ejected from site for the day) but quickly forgiven without any challenge to his character or good intentions.
-
This was not Consuelos invoking celebrity privilege. This was an act very understandable to parents of wrestlers everywhere. Parents are, in fact, certifiably insane when their children are wrestling and cannot be held accountable for anything they do or say during those 6 minutes. Theyquickly snap out of it after the final whistle. I have a very passionate friend who always sat in the first row of the bleachers. He had a "run out on the mat" incident during one of his sons' intense matches He jumped up, ran two steps on the mat, then turned right, and ran straight out of the gym as the ref was kicking him out. For the rest of the season I would gently sit myself next to him when his sons were wrestling, intertwine my leg around his, and make sure he stayed seated for the duration of the match. I got elbowed, squeezed, and almost head butted as he was shadow wrestling, squirming, and flailing about during the matches. And each time he looked at me with fire in his eyes and said, "Thanks" as he came back from his Mr. Hyde self.

"I Don't Agree With What I Posted" Fantastic disclaimer and it neutralizes the opposition. I am su're you also do not agree with you'r egregious use of apostrophe's. -
Will has the Will and that is the power. Will is The man.

I like this regional idea quite a bit and then the formulaic match setups. Conferences used to be regional but have evolved to now being something quite different. As others mentioned this would require the conference tournaments to be pushed earlier a week or two. I see the possible negative effect of the conference tournaments becoming a duck/dodge fest to keep seeds for the regional tourneys but this already happens with dual meets anyway. I do (still) object to the absurdity of 33 per weight. If there ever is a change to the NCAA tournament qualification format it is a perfect time to get rid of this vestigial rattail.
-
When Amine and Lewan scrimmage do they just stand and look at each other for 2 hours in the Michigan room? The two most boring wrestlers to wrestle back to back in any lineup ever. Yet they both have AA'd the last two years so until the rules/referees make them change this is what they will do. I am too lazy to do the research but I believe they both have more stalling calls than takedowns in the past 2 years and especially so in their Big 10/NCAA tournament runs. Same for having more escapes than takedowns.

I had to slow my settings to keep up. He speaks at the speed of the wrestling so until I can think as fast as they can move I'll have to set .75.

Let his coach do all the "preventative" talking necessary. Maybe preventative officiating has a place in youth club wrestling but not in college where adult men are wrestling other adult men and all have been in the sport for 15 years or so. These are not children. Their peers fight wars, work on flight decks of aircraft carriers, are roughnecks on oil rigs, etc. These men can wrestle with a quiet referee quite well. I do not ever recall Chatty Cathy freestyle referees screaming out advice and counts. It is not necessary nor welcome (by me at least).
-
Mic or not does not matter. The refs don't need to be talking to the wrestlers that much at all. "Stay legal" Sheesh!
-
A bit of topic here but . . . Does anyone else wish the college refs would STFU? "Stay legal" stated over and over again is just ridiculous. Do football referees tell linemen during a play "Don't hold, don't hold"?. Are basketball refs compelled to say "Don't travel, Don't travel"? The referee theatrics are getting to be too much. Just like the other sports: If I take note of anything the referee does then he has probably failed in his primary job.
