You're funny dude. So the thread was about a fundamental lack of economic knowledge and claimed we were headed toward this stock market crash because of Job numbers when it was actually about the Japanese Carry Trade and the BOJ raising interest rates. That was the catalyst(that and the market has been on SUCH an incredible burner that it was absolutely due a small correction, still up huge on the year)... But Harris talking about making things more affordable, THAT you find objectionable? LOL...do you just look at Twitter and then blindly repost shit without understanding the context or what it is you're posting? A couple points of clarification. 1-Trump spent ~8.2 Trillion. That's more than anyone in a 4 year period ever. 2-It shouldn't take an economist to be able to understand...inflation isn't the result of what happens the first day you're in office. Inflation STARTED under Trump with that massive spending, the tax cut, then the supply line issues, Covid and they were already on their way up before Biden stepped into office. You need to kinda understand how that works. The Fed keeping interest rates much lower for too long was also a huge contributor(which Trump would like to change as he'd like the Fed to answer to him...an absolutely AWFUL idea for any person. Finally, saying wages are down 4% is fundamentally untrue and it's that type of lie that...apparently people like you just lap up and buy hook line and sinker. INCOMES in the United States have outpaced inflation under Biden. WAGES have not. They have NOT gone down. The problem with this...again, intellectually dishonest post is that I BELIEVE he's trying to say wages RELATIVE to inflation have decreased. So your buying power after your take-home check(and only your check, not your investments or all income, JUST wages)-have 4% less buying power. But then the part that, again, people aren't smart enough to figure out. https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2024/aug/06/joe-biden/have-incomes-outpaced-inflation-since-joe-biden-to/

LOL...oh Jesus...the intellectual dishonesty in full display yet again! This was when Trump was threatening to take away the "Dreamer's" status. The DACA kids. It was pointing out the hypocrisy of celebrating Christmas and using their status as legal citizens She's NOT saying the phrase "Merry Christmas" is offensive...as much as the right has with this...a completely ridiculous non-issue that has NEVER been an issue. Plus, remember when Trump fixed that? You were "allowed" to say Merry Christmas again?

There have been a number of polls in Wisconsin, the laters I saw...IN Wisconsin by Fox6(Milwaukee area) had Harris with a 2 point lead. The polls as a whole this past week have ranged from +1 Trump to +6 Harris. The issue I have is with the last sentence. You went from saying she had "zero chance," to making the argument she's not going to "run away with this election." I have other issues like the idea that RFK is going to cut a deal or that his 6% will just go to Trump...that's kinda ridiculous, but nobody is saying she's going to "run away with this election." But it IS again a real tossup and there's SO much more energy and enthusiasm. This is without her debating Trump, Walz debating Vance and Trump still has more than enough time to melt down(or continue to do so...talking about how she just became black is NOT a winner for him).
-
Bruh...what are you talking about? I do like how we're actually ticking off all the sexist talking points including the "cackling." But I'm genuinely at a loss here. What point are you trying to make? A woman working one of the tables was wearing a Hijab, so that means...what now? How does this relate to Harris?
-
He's not a Shapiro and certainly not an Obama. He's not a great orator, his appearance with Harris did look a little odd...but to me, it's just a guy who's...relatively normal. A guy who was a teacher, in the National Guard, someone the kids loved(and was apparently pretty tough on them getting them in the weight room...but sure, he's not a natural speaker. Obviously, I'd prefer another Obama-style speaker(I think everyone can agree, even if you didn't like him, he was an incredible public speaker). I happen to think Vance is exactly what you're describing Vance is. Then again, I don't think Vance believes what he says(more on that in the next post). I like the guy. My first choice was Kelly. I thought he was perfect. Though...I have ZERO doubt they'd still have attacked him. The former fighter pilot who became an Astronaut, then helped nurse his wife back from a gunshot to the head AND is in a swing state(Minnesota is not a swing state). I'm sure his service would have been smeared all the same(I mean, John McCain's was and that was apparently fine). But he's new to the National Stage. I'll be curious to see how he does in the VP debates. Either way...this election has gone from a NEAR certainty for Trump to a complete toss-up in a very short period of time.

Oh yeah, I'm LOVING the unverified but...uhmm..."Twitter man says!"- Type of posts This is absolutely gold though. Net worth, 330K. This is a man who served in Congress...pretty much the only place you can beat the market by 6-10% on average(only ~10% of traders actually beat the market) and he has no stocks. He was a staunch advocate for banning members or both houses from trading. The attacks; 1-He retired after 24 years when he was eligible to retire after 20. He retired BEFORE his unit was called up. He was already planning a Congressional run. That's...nothing. That is routine. 2-He ONCE when advocating for stricter gun laws said the same weapons he carried in War should not be available on the street(that's ONE mistake). That's the extent of the "dark and twisted path," he's got. 3-and.....? He had a promotion that required him to finish up what's effectively continuing ed in the Military, something even my my right wing relatives, one who's a commander of a rangers reserve unit and one who was an 0-6 in the Navy after 20-some years, he was promoted before he'd spent 6 months on a ship at Sea(I believe that was a requirement to become an 0-5 IIRC, but he already attained that promotion before he'd fulfilled it. It was FAR more common if you go back further. 4-The Minnesota protests/riots(which got particularly bad when one white supremacist started a Target on fire in an attempt to make the protesters look particularly bad(similar to the white supremacists who used protests to murder two people in Oakland)...and Trump was PRAISING the hell out of him! 5-His coaching career But...there is NOTHING here. Something about him claiming to be a "head coach?" LOL...again, seriously? His students absolutely love the guy...but what's the controversy now? Apparently he was "just" a DL coach! He was one of 4 coaches on a winless team, the kids, again, loved him, he was a great coach, helped them win a state title, kids rave about him, but what's the GOP writing? "Tim Walz wasn't a head coach, he was just a DL coach," writes some Fox news contributor! I mean...this is it? LMFAO...THIS is the "twisted" past of Tim Walz? It's so ridiculous. TRUMP'S VP COMPARED TRUMP TO HITLER! He called him a "noxious man," who lacked the moral integrity to lead among other things. This one is particularly bad. You KNOW the right is just grasping...grasping at whatever they can as Tim Walz is about as clean and honorable a man as you've seen on a Presidential Ticket in a LOONG time. No criminal past, and no suspicion of a criminal past, he's open, honest and actually decent. So...of course it's time to try and tear him down! https://www.thedailybeast.com/tim-walz-is-a-great-partner-just-ask-the-football-coach-he-worked-under https://www.npr.org/2024/08/07/nx-s1-5065779/a-look-at-tim-walzs-early-years-as-a-high-school-teacher-and-football-coach

I want to say this and be as clear as possible it's in no way questioning Burroughs greatness...just the narrative, but during his PEAK...when he was...what, 28 years old(about) he went to the Olympics, lost to two guys he'd beaten badly that year to not medal. That was in the midst of a run where he'd been winning year in and year out. So...as GREAT as Burroughs was, he ha one Olympic run. He won a spot on the Olympic team, won a Gold. He was very clearly dominant, but even JB went back as the heavy favorite and lost two straight both on the front and then on the back side. My point being ONLY that is JB can lose TWO matches like that...it just gives you(or at least me) some perspective on how these guys can lose to in the last seconds like Brooks or Lee could wrestle tight, Snyder could lose to a great young upstart or Dake...well, I think Dake was wound WAY too tight and had other shit going on. The meltdown in the Bronze match seemed weird. But generally speaking, hard for me to fault a guy too hard for losing ONE match at the Olympics. -

Probably 7. That's my guess. -
It's the Olympics and...I don't know, you get tight. I had to overcome not being aggressive enough and opening up(and struggled with it) in tournaments that were meaningless(certainly relatively speaking). So I can see how you'd be up in the Semi's and you would be content just hanging in that underhook or trying to ride the last 5 seconds out on a leg. It's tough to see at that level though. Just brutal.

Yeah, I REALLY struggle to fault a Russian for his political views when high-profile people can end up dead if they speak out. People are just people. They want to live their lives, they want to get up, go about their business. If you're a world class Wrestler, you just want to Wrestle, take care of your Family. I don't like assigning malicious intent to these athletes unless just unprompted they start spewing propaganda. Good reminder...even if you don't always love the person we've got in power, we're incredibly lucky to be able to say whatever the duck duck goose we want...(except when Bob Dole censors me). How sad would it be if Snyder couldn't Wrestle because he spoke out against Biden/Trump-whoever for their foreign policies? Everyone I know would be in prison for...SOME reason over the last ~20 years. -

No...I won't just look at the ratings...I went to watch the Finals this past year at a friends house(an old guy who's about 60) with ~10-14 people and he was streaming it. He struggles with basic technology, but he's cut the cord and is streaming. So...yeah, ratings are less meaningful to me now than they've ever been. We did consider going to ST Louis this year until we looked at the price of the tickets...and they were still sold out. So...yeah, I'm not seeing the sky falling as others are. As for Russia not sending their best athletes, they didn't? Seems like they sent quite a few of their best, but sure, the Russian Federation wasn't there. 6 weights, A silver, a couple Bronze and two guys still Wrestling one favored to win another Bronze...again, not seeing the sky falling quite like others are. If Brooks holds on and Lee gets a TD, are we having this conversation? Are we really two exchanges away from an entirely different conversation about the state of not just MFS...but ALL of US Wrestling? -

Yeah, you're just going to go back to the old rules that limited the action and scoring on the edge. One Olympics where we don't win a gold, but possibly medal at 5 of the 6 weights isn't a good reason to change College Wrestling to Freestyle. I also don't think NIL is going to cut the number of programs. I think the demise of the sport is greatly exaggerated, the dominance of a couple of teams is how College has always been, it's not new. -
Yeah, I've seen it as well. It's disappointing. I'm a little disappointed for some of these guys, but not IN these guys. I feel bad FOR Brooks, Lee, Dake. I'm not angry AT them. That's asinine. It's really disappointing when it comes from people who know the sport. It's SO ***ducking** easy to WATCH Wrestling and say what a guy should do. "Why didn't Brooks just elevate the leg and post off on the other leg! He wouldn't have given up 2! That's...so lazy and annoying. I thought we COULD win 4, but that we would win 2 Golds. So...that's a disappointment...I guess. Because I thought these guys would all beat all the rest of the best in the world? Or maybe that speaks to the talent we have. I think you could re-wrestle the three brackets we had tough losses in and I could see Lee, Dake and Brooks all winning it...but you get one chance and it sucks. That's why an Olympic Gold carries a bit more weight. Pretty proud of team USA and I think we've still got one gold coming!

Yes, that has to be it. Stay Square, don't get extended, movement, banging, pushing, constant forward motion, maybe look for picks(at least for some action). Just try and grind him down, but if you can't hit that high C and stay on your feet with your head up, let it go. The guy isn't just a one trick pony or anything, he's a stud, but I think Snyder can win by wearing him down and just hopefully wear him down and hit a couple clean shots.

What serious person was saying we'd win 6 Golds?

Why is Japan so dominant in wrestling?

Yeah...I...I can't think of anything they're known for that requires strength? Huh...I'm sure something will come to me -

LOL...honestly, I can't even be bothered by it given the levels of absurdity before you get to that! Men's and Women's B-Bop! I mean, what in the hell is that? And it's SO bad! It's not even good break dancing(At least what I saw. GTFO... I'm all for ending "cultural appropriation," if it means that shit stops! Same with BMX...racing and other BMX-related events... I am a little disappointed in Wkn. It's always the last you'd suspect. -
...double or nothing!

LOL...same here. But still, it was kinda...cute when the young Chinese girl did it. She took Bronze in one of the Olympic Gymnastic events...but she looked like a little girl, she kinda looks up at the two on the top of the podium and it looked endearing how she copied it. If I see Snyder or someone doing it...well, it's hard or it to be "cute" when it looks like balding(and shorter) Thor is biting the medal, ya know? ALL due respect to Snyder, he's a stud and I've been a huge fan since he was coming up, but it's just a very different look! Edit-Here's the link...I think, this hasn't been working for me when trying to link X. https://x.com/why_rishi/status/1821524584287568335/video/1

Women’s 50 kg silver medal appeal poll
scourge165 replied to Animal197's topic in International Wrestling
Yes, but then you see she wanted to Wrestle and compete at 53KG and was kinda screwed out of an opportunity to Wrestle there...so while I don't think they should change the rules FOR her, I wouldn't be opposed to changing them after this. If not for that, I'd have less sympathy. Women's Wrestling's weight classes are much...healthier for them than Men's. Smaller increments. Side rant-I'm so ***ducking** disgusted to see BREAK dancing in the Olympics but they can only have 6 weight classes in MFS(or Greco, I just don't follow it as closely, it's not an insult). -
Why is this getting so...contentious? The kid lost again when he was at the precipice of an achievement that would have put him in a particularly unique class. It has to be gut-wrenching. Finals in HS, NCAAs going for his 4th and the Olympics. Just...cut the young man a little slack. He didn't flip anyone off or take a shit on the flag, he was just disappointed with the result. I get it. The US has had a brutal Olympics(but also somehow...pretty successful I guess).
