Wisconsin Landslide: Referendum Against Trump/Musk
scourge165 replied to red viking's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
I don't think...anyone cares about the voter ID thing. There were CONSTANT ads and no race for a judge has ever had as much money spent on it. The ID...I lost my ID, I went online and printed it out. It wasn't a big deal. That's one of those things that the right cares about WAY more than the left does. There's some nonsensical idea that you've got people somehow using fake ids or they can register to vote without being American citizens. I voted for the ID law. I voted for Crawford. It's not NEARLY as schizo as you seem to think. -
Before everyone cheers the contracting GDP that's already led to what is technically a 'correction,' and by tomorrow will result in a "crash" in the market(-20% drop)...and argue how that's ACTUALLY a really good thing...maybe just listen to what Reagan said about Tariffs. And again, as I said in another thread, Reagan and every President uses SOME form of tariffs. He had regressive tariffs on motorcycles over a 5 year Period as Japan was flooding the market with cheap Motorcycles and Harley was in trouble. But you don't just put 10-20-40%+ tariffs on Countries. And we want to be the leader in AI...but all we've done is get Japan-CHINA and South Korea to form an alliance, the EU, Canada is going to respond. The rest of the world will.

Again...when you see what seems to be a WILD claim...that we sell Milk to Canada and they put a 270% or a 250% tariff on it...don't you question that? The FACT is...that doesn't come into play until we reach a certain quota and THAT was part of Trump's USMCA trade agreement. The trade policy he just talked about being TERRIBLE and blamed on BIDEN! There has not been a tariff imposed on Dairy by Canada. Tariffs are not an inherently bad thing by ANY means. Tariffs saved Harley, they saved the Motocyle industry in the United States. But when Reagan put them on, he made it clear, it was up to Harley to make their bikes more competitive...as they'd stopped innovating and that the tariffs would go away. They would start at 45%, then within 5 years go away. And yet...these are just more Smoot-Hawley, across the board tariffs. This will the most inflationary policy since...well, the two names listed above. https://www.factcheck.org/2025/04/trumps-misleading-claim-on-canadian-dairy-tariffs/
-
Yeah...and we don't export enough to even hit those tariffs to Canada. What's more, TRUMP was the one who negotiated the last deal with Canada and Mexico and made it illegal to impose new tariffs. It's Congresses job. But this is where the lies come in. 'Canada is charging 250% on Dairy products.' Yes...they are. AFTER a certain point which we don't ever reach. That would be an argument for TARGETED tariffs though...which is NOT supposed to be in the hands of Congress. I just can't Fathom how we could have someone so ignorant of History. May 1929-Congress passes Smoot-Hawley Oct 1929-Market Crashes April 1930-Market has regained MOST of the losses from the crash due to the belief that Hoover will not sign the tariffs into Law May-Hoover signs Smoot-Hawley into Law Great Depression Starts Is Reagan NOT the Republican Poster Boy? Their Hero? Listen to his take on Tariffs...

And again, the market is crashing right now. Just absolutely dumping. -
Wisconsin Landslide: Referendum Against Trump/Musk
scourge165 replied to red viking's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
It was only interesting in just how much the Democrats won by. A 10 point spread? I can't believe people think that's equal to a law that's already on the books. It was about as strong of a repudiation of Trump and Musk as you can get...and wait until the mid-terms. People who didn't listen and left their money in this market as Trump is absolutely tanking it...they're not going to be happy. The guy actually cited Smoot-Hawley, the economic policy that led to the great depression. Amazing. Markets are crashing after hours. -
Wisconsin Landslide: Referendum Against Trump/Musk
scourge165 replied to red viking's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
You think THAT was the "important part of the ballot?" Yeah...that's why this was the most expensive State Supreme Court Race in History and Musk spent 70M dollars. To affirm a referendum on a law that already exists. Jesus are people gullible. -
I just need to see Sinclair at '74. I don't think he's bigger than Sinclair. Lets go back to Askren, he's thicker in the chest, but Askren was a lot longer. Haines is the favorite at '74. '84 I think Sinclair is in the 4-5 range. Ferrari, McEnally for starters, they're just too long. Arnold is basically build like Sinclair but...more muscle. I'm always rooting for the next 4X Champ and I'd like to see one from Wisconsin. Mesenbrink was confusion about RT away, Sinclair, it's right there for him. And to be clear, the kid isn't going to look like Micic at '74. He'll look like...a normal '74.
-
Can Monteiro/Duthie make '74? Norman desperately needs to move up and he needs to fill out. He had O'Toole on the ropes, but he gassed. Didn't he have to give up a stalling and 2 TDs for O'Toole to complete the comeback?
-
It's a different sport. No. I'll ask Kyle Dake. He shared who he thought should win it. Or Winn Magazine Editor who said that nobody had Hendrickson a one of the favorites coming into the tournament. I guess Gable Stevenson is ignorant of this distinction as well...and David Taylor
-
I'm not quite seeing the risk. I had a coach who would tell you he DIDN'T want you to go out there and get a pin until you got...5-6 takedowns, 3-4 DIFFERENT takedowns. He was a couple times National Champ and had a pretty good idea, so I think...and someone started a thread about what attribute you wish you had. Askrens funk or maybe it was Jaggers Cradle, whatever it was, for me, it was Cael's fearlessness when it came to taking a shot and just not putting pressure on himself to Wrestle. Just constantly looking to attack. I don't see risk in putting a kid in a bar and just running it, or a half and working that for a full period. Especially at...again, HWT. You're not watching a lot of HWTs sitting in a crab position and rolling across their back for a pin.
-
I will say I'm more impressed if a 149 leads the Country in pins...and then actually places(or starts) This year the pin leader was the guy battling for the spot from Lehigh(he ultimately lost the starting spot). Quality of opponent seems relevant for pins and techs. Mesenbrink won it for techs. You post kinda leans into Parris winning the award. He won it with 11 pins. MOST of them appeared to be under .500 and working backward, I found that of the last 6 that he pinned, one of them was an AA. I'd say Mesenbrink teching the runner up or most Wretlers he faced was pretty impressive. So particularly as it comes to HWTs, I find pins less impressive or dominant than techs. My only issue with the Hodge has been the...ever evolving criteria. Why change it from pins to dominance? Why did they consider past accomplishments and then eliminate them? The most pins ALWAYS come in the HWT class(197 is 2nd). Incidentally, those two weights have won the Hodge more than any other weights. So I guess those have been deemed the best weight classes? If they wanted it to be a pinning award, they shouldn't have taken pinning out of the criteria. But back to my original thoughts on the award as a whole, I said I voted for Wyatt AND Starroci...so I'm certainly not complaining about Wyatt winning the award. I'd have also voted for Keck had he beaten Starocci.
-
No...it's not. Really? We're talking about saving energy? That's...a sign of dominance? I don't want to get tired so I'm going to pin you? No, that's just how YOU'RE interpreting it in a clumsy analogy from another sport. And I'd argue there's nothing more dominant than repeatedly controlling a man and taking him to his back. You are free to argue that Stevenson, Mesenbrink and Starocci are...lacking in their skillsets if you'd like! I mean, the ULTIMATE goal is to win National Titles, right? Well, you've got 2X, 1X with 2 more shots and 5X. But sure. I guess Hendrickson's most dominant year was 2022 when he had 17 pins vs the 13 he had this year. Hendrickson won the Hodge for ONE reason. He beat Gable. That's why he won the fan vote by a lot and lost the committees vote...by a solid margin. And unless you think HWT is REGULARLY the most skilled and dominant Wrestler, then...lets stop with the Pins=dominance nonsense. The top pinners are always the big guys. Hendrickson was the top pinner when he couldn't even make the podium. Yeah, he didn't win because of his pins. The top pinners in D2 and D3 weren't even National Qualifers. "Objectively more dominant." Hell, was Gable even that good? I mean, sure, he won the Olympics...but he only had 5 pins in his two NCAA Championship seasons...even when he was rolling through the field that Hendrickson wasn't placing in and Hendrickson was racking up 18 pins, I guess Hendrickson was always better...ya know, minus the winning, the Olympics...etc... Maybe we shouldn't even consider this an upset?

That's the guy. Looked like he was pretty competitive with some really tough kids...as did Estrada. And those brothers at Michigan look pretty good. That's the weight Aden Valencia was supposed to be at(somehow he was initially listed or registered at that weight). I mean, if that's not proof California is the best Wrestling State and produces just the best, most hard nosed Wrestlers, I don't know what is! All that talent in just ONE division? Incredible.
-
I'll guess Iowa, but if I'm Iowa, I'm throwing Estrada out there. That kid is a hammer and while he wasn't a big name recruit, he's a stud. Close to being a 4X Cali Champ(though...I'm unclear on the 1st one and how he won that one) but he was in a weight with the Tony Montana brothers from Michigan and 5 of the top 12 kids in the Country when got upset by a fellow Wisconsin commit at the time. So...Wisconsin had 2 of the top 5 recruits at that weight in the Semis...and by 5 minutes after that match, they'd flipped to Iowa and I believe Michigan, but could be wrong.
-
Yup. Also Me-5:11PM Now 5:12PM And I just stepped away so Me at 5:13 Still...saying he has 2 more shots. Where's the confusion?
-
I definitely think Connor "closed the gap" on Barr. Will he ever be able to actually challenge him? Probably not, but I have little doubt he improved a lot over his Freshmen year. Will he actually be able to beat a guy who took a 2nd as a Freshmen? Unlikely...but it'd be cool to see, wouldn't it? I also wonder what it'd take for Cael to start Mirasola over Barr. It'd just be interesting. There's not much interesting about PSU beyond margin of victory and how many champs they can get.
-
Way. Even he has said he had 3 years...going into this last tournament. He's not getting a medical. He was more than 30% into the season and the injury has to be unavoidable. If they're ever going to deny one, it's to him and his VERY avoidable injury.
-
I respect PSU...I'm not a fan, but I do respect them for the way they go about their busniness. But if they bring him in to Wrestle...what I assume would be HWT, I'd lose a lot of respect. Speaking of which; This one made me like this kid a lot more. That was funny!
-
Max...maybe. Ben is a non-starter from everything I've heard. I'm not in the know, but...I know people in the know who know and they're reliable. And yes, I know that sounds very much like 'my sisters, cousins, uncles, new GFs son said,' but it's really just MY very good friend, his former teammate and close friend, he's closely with McIntosh. They don't want Ben, Ben is making more and has more freedom running AWA. Max is less outspoken. They used to joke about how Max was very neat, did his homework early, Ben was messy, kinda did his homework later. I'm making a jump there, I get that, but also seems like the type of mentality you need from a HC. Oh...and he's a National Champ who could bring Ben in to help with the RTC as that IS one of the things he's said he wants to do. Now you get Parker, Keegan, Hopke and some of those guys going to the RTC and...that could build on itself. Not NLWC like, but...it'd be good. But I doubt it. But THAT is how you rebuild Wisconsin and do it while appeasing Askren without having Ben run the program(but still getting a good amount of credit for it...which would be justified). I'm guessing with the assault claim dropped, he would be eligible to come back to school. I know a Badger Football player who was kicked out after an accusation(one that went to trial and was an egregiously bad prosecution and really messed up as just the most cursory investigation disproved the bulk of their case, but that's a longer story). Anyway, after the trial, he was let back in. And then he sued the hell outta the school and they settled. They're pretty big for '84 at this point. Probably both '97, but if they want to Wrestle together, they almost certainly need to leave. Though...you would think Connor has closed the gap on Barr. There's a bigger learning curve for a True Freshmen vs a RS Freshmen. It almost certainly won't happen, but that'd be pretty cool, huh? One Freshmen knocks a returning runner up out of the lineup? And then Barr has to go 184 and the two rivals have to Wrestle off for the spot?
-
Now that's a curve ball...unless he starts reading the History of the Mormons and he doesn't get past the part where they frown upon harems of young child brides and he thinks Brinham Young is an order rather than a person...because I could definitely see the latter being possible...if not probably in that scenario.
-
No, the expression "major curveball" infers something unexpected happens. So... like AJ Ferrari gives Ted Talk on consent or Jimmy creates thought provoking thread. This...this would not qualify as a curveball so much as a...'how many years is he getting,' type situation?
-
He already lost a year. So 2 more shots(which is wild enough).
-
Then that's the most dominant obviously. Especially if you're doing it at HWT(the Techs) as very few score points.
-
The context was me saying a tech is more dominant than a pin. That was the context. Because it's more dominant. 22-6 looks better than a fall You might have to just...live with me not agreeing with you here. I know this may seem crazy... 2-No, we're not talking about scenarios we "envision," remember? You didn't like that, right? I can name dozens of times a Wrestler got "pinned," without getting dominated. I can't think of a tech fall that wasn't a dominant win. Remember that "dominant" Nick Piccininni win over Spencer Lee? Yeah...I don't either. Yeah, the one who beats Gable Stevenson. As it stands, it almost didn't as the committee voted for Starocci.
