  1. I would just have them go again. Start the OT...over. Back to the feet, then back to the mat. I don't like any match decided by criteria. I think Ono is going to help grow Collegiate style and...I don't think going to Freestyle is even a consideration right now...so arguing about which is more exciting is a moot point. We have both...that's good enough for me.
  2. LOL...what does this have to do with Buchanan or how Iowa coached him up? And I don't know who else on this forum uses the term "awesome sauce dude," but...you find them and let 'em know...don't.
  3. Kueter is going back to Football next year, no? He's a 4 star recruit as a FB player, they're losing their 3 starting backers. I think he's going to play a big role on that team...and I think that's more than likely the end of him being a realistic contender at HWT. He doesn't get in the room until sometime after Jan 1, he's beat up from Football. He doesn't have to cut, so that's good...and I have no doubt he'll be in shape, but not Wrestling shape. So he's not gonna have a ton of time. He's also going to be draft eligible next year, so if he's as good at FB as many have said...he may just want to focus on the sport that could pay him a whole lot more money.
  4. We're not serious, right? Iowa took a kid who took two 3rds and an 8th as a Freshmen and...he beat a Penn State Freshmen in the finals. If that's the example you've got of "coaching 'em up," it's...not the strongest. Also, '97 was probably the weakest weight this year.
  5. My bad...I just made a mistake. I meant Joe Scarpello. Got them confused.
  6. Kinda is. He's actually been teammates and worked with one of them. The other was at...what should have been their biggest rival the last 2 and next 2-3 years and a guy he wrestled in the finals. Also, encouraging a Freshmen who he thinks highly of...when MOST other Freshmen would jsut hit the portal and go elsewhere makes a whole lot of sense.
  7. I think he's got a shot. He went to SV with Henson this year. Iowa hasn't had a ton of success with transfers and this only furthers the point Askren made, but...what, should they have NOT gone after them? I think his best chance would have been at Okie St, but...what's done is done. I think he's got a chance. He lost to last years champ and the guy who lost this year 1-0 in SV. But what a stupid premise. If he didn't win it next year, he can't next? Joey Blaze took 2nd after going 0-2, losing to a guy who took an 8th and another who didn't place. Chumbley was the 20 seed. Took 4th. Taylor was the 8th seed. Won it this year. Now this is '57, but amazing how those things happened, isn't it?
  8. Yeah, I know, I wasn't calling you out or saying 'told ya so,' I made the statement because I just thought it was the last...ridiculous thing that COULD happen(I guess Ross could flip to PSU also) this year and I didn't believe it. Again, I just said it facetiously. I didn't even say Feldman. I would have but ONLY because...Keuter is playing Football again and I don't now if he's going to play Wrestle(but I know he's going back). And then...I suppose I may have thrown out Jimmy Mullen. He seems like a guy who could make a big jump, but again, to be clear, I was making a joke as it's their only weight they're not going to be a favorite or...damn near a favorite to win a NC. I don't even know it's true, just reading this thread.
  9. I love these type of stupid posts. They're RS Freshmen, we haven't seen them since the Southern Scuffle(they both won it) and then the 3 losses were to Barr, their own teammate, Luffman, a 4-0 loss to a VERY good HWT and Feldman himself. These kids were elite in HS and they've spent a year in the PSU rooms. They weren't touted as the next PJ Duke's, but putting on a cap on what they are AT BEST at this point seems moronic. I can't count the number of guys who ended up placing far higher than their "at best," and just as many who placed lower than their "at least." Lets maybe...let the red shirts come off the kids before talking about how "overrated" they are at this point.
  10. I made a joke about this...saying PSU was getting Welsh and then I said and probably a HWT. Someone replied and said who and I said...'the best HWT not graduating this year.' I was kidding...though I considered Bastida may or someone to Wrestle Mirasola off. But if Feldman does it, THIS is the criteria I will grade Penn State next year. Penn State vs the Field Lillednahl points score vs -highest non-Penn State Point Scorer Ono vs Crookham Blaze vs That's it. Only way to do it. It's insane. These guys JUST saw what DT can do for a guy. Go there if you must leave? Though, Okie State does have Carroll coming in at HWT, don't they?
  11. Cael said he 'tweaked' his knee and would be out for a week or two after the injury. They made the injury to Davis sound worse. I wouldn't be surprised if the writing was on the wall that Kasak was going to be the '57 and he went in, had it cleaned out(assuming it was a knee) in order to apply for the medical RS. I think Facundo could have been an AA this year at '57(assuming he could hold it...guessing that wasn't fun). But next year I would think Michigan would be the best place for him...assuming you can figure out the weights of the Mantanona Brothers. They look like studs...and tall. So '65/'74 seems like their future, so if '57 wasn't too tough, that makes sense for him. If it was...well, probably only a few schools who couldn't use him.
  12. I know he's leaving now, but he stayed and gave up a year knowing what he was facing. I don't know what HWT they're probably getting. It seems like at this point, go down the list, pick the highest place finisher who is coming back and it's him. Or...Tazhudinov at this rate. I don't know and I was being a bit facetious given their lineup and recruiting. People talked about Ono wrestling in College and it was mocked...openly. Penn State has a cluster already at '57-'97 and a Freshmen runner up goes there. They already had Blade and Duke. They lost out on the top 4 recruits of '26...and now they flip ANOTHER '74 pounder. It feels like movie with Eddie Murphy where if they can spend 1 million dollars in a day, they get to keep it and the value in his account just keeps going up. I feel about 30% sure that Feldman is following Welsh at this point. Though, I don't even know if it's official with Welsh. I didn't think they're actually much better with him. I think it's likely a marginal difference.
  13. We'll have to see how it plays out. Facundo lost a year and he's an elite Wrestler. He beat Haines and O'Toole last off-season, unless I'm mistaken. And then he beat Kasak in a Wrestle-off, then lost to him at the Blacknight Open. Both were 5-2 scores. But he spent a year not Wrestling his preferred weight with Mesenbrink, then came back, lost a year while trying to go down. I think this is going to be the...most absurd it gets for Penn State. I think David Taylor in Stillwater is going to make this more interesting, more balanced. I'd love to see Casey Cunningham in Columbus, but it seems as if he's a PSU lifer. Give Taylor a little more time and people are going to see you can win big matches there without sitting. The biggest upset in Wrestling history(arguably) and Hamiti beating O'Toole. He has some big time studs coming in. Forrest and Ross in 2 years. Lockett and Duke could make an all-time great rivalry if they are both maybe '74 pounders(both have to RS a year). But I certainly wouldn't cede that to Duke. Spratley made a helluva run. This SHOULD be the zenith of Penn State's recruiting and transfering and success. If it goes UP from here? If they come back after back to back record breaking tournaments, the #1 recruiting class, getting a Freshmen runner-up to transfer(probably a HWT) AND the World Champion and a kid who just beat Spencer Lee...if they come back and improve on ANY of that, NCAA Wrestling is just gonna have to change it to "Penn State vs the Field." The next highest scorer at each weight vs PSU's Wrestler.
  14. What does them medaling before coming to the NLWC have to do with his post? How is it even a response? Ono has already medaled. Do you think that'll hurt the caliber of Wrestlers who'll want to come and train at the NLWC? If so, make that argument. I don't even know what the one you're making is.
  15. I believe '84 will be the toughest weight at next years tournament... I made the case pretty well(at least I thought) in another thread where I listed all the guys, but just for starters, the kid from Minnesota is special. He had 4X potential if not for Covid. I really have a hard time seeing anyone beating him for a while. He's a big '84, he's got incredible feet, he's got a great shot, re-shot, defense. But then you can look at the returning AAs, Ferrari, Welsch, Sinclair, Norman from Stanford, Bennette Berge, Allred, etc... whoever is there for PSU(though it seems like that will be Welsch) and...lots of other good Wrestlers that I'm going to forget, but there is a ton of young talent.
  16. We're entering a new era. I could very easily see that happen. I could see PJ Duke being the 2nd best in the Country and having to wait a couple years to Wrestle. The Mirasola twins are also incredibly talented kids who have had success in Freestyle. I don't know what happens there, but the smaller one has been the most accomplished and I don't really see a path to him starting. Guys make a big jump after their Freshmen year, but he lost 10-1 to Barr. Maybe it's a 8-4 type match next year, but I don't think he's catching him.
  17. Right, this is the main reason I wouldn't go down if I were him. '97 pounders are more physical and generally slower. Athletic '97s are hard to beat and '84 is stacked. I think Sinclair should go '74 for that reason. I view him as an immediate contender...I really don't see McNelly losing but but there are 4-5 other guys who are capable. I think that kid from Stanford could be a stud at '84 also. Norman? Whatever their '74's name was. But isn't Welsh transfering to Penn State? Or was that premature(while also being...ridiculous)? Edit-I'd also add Facundo. But...guys are going to cut when they can't make the lineup. I look forward to him getting a good...hopefully 3 year run wherever he goes.
  18. I just thought Mesenbrink was more dominant from start to finish. He tech falled the #2 ranked Wrestler. A lot of guys only goal was to slow him down. HWT has more cupcakes in it vs the B1G at 165...so...there, that's it. That's my reason. Hendrickson had a much better tournament. And Shultz, like most Greco guys...just regressed and kept on regressing in Folkstyle. I'm not compelling by the argument he had a total of 3 decisions against Amine and Caliendo. Guys wrestled him to try and slow down the match. Hendrickson had the biggest upset...maybe of all-time. He had a great match vs Gable. Mesenbrink was the clear and dominant #1 from start to finish.
  19. Use another e-mail.
  20. I don't care about pins....I just...kinda covered that.
  21. I feel like if EVER the 5th title becomes meaningful and you CAN'T just use the "the other 4 timers would have won it given another try," really falls apart now. 184 was as tough a weight as HWT IMO, the difference is, the people everyone thought was the 3rd best won HWT whereas the favorite won 184. People are also voting on their own criteria. The best CFB player isn't a QB or RB every year, plenty of times it's been another position, but it goes to who it goes to. So I voted for Starocci...but I also voted for Wyatt. I'd really like to see it split. And if we're being honest, based on the actual criteria, it should go to Mesenbrink. Quality of competition? I'll take his level of dominance over 165 over Hendrickson's. A TF is just as dominant as a Pin...IMO. Moreso if I'm being honest. Ramos pinning Lee wasn't dominant, but it's hard to not dominate a guy when you're up 16 on him. Mesenbrink tech falled the runner-up this year and went through the B1G. I won't be upset with any of the 3 though. They're all clearly worthy.
  22. Ah...that's right. Ok, well....he's somehow underrated. Hawewinkel is another guy who I forgot. Also like Gerry Abas. Man is a 3X Champ if he's not gassing he beats 3 absolute studs. Even the 15-6 loss to Fried seemed to turn on that reversal that wasn't. The way they wrestled back then was just so much simpler. Looked more like high level HS Wrestling now. Shots, the defense was mainly trying to stuff the head of if you got put to a hip, lock around the chest and try and get your leg back. You step out of bounds, the wrestling is over. I don't like a lot of rule changes, but I LOVED the rule changes regarding Wrestling out of bounds. There are so many all-time greats and guys from that era, I'm just totally ignorant about them. There's the one guy from Iowa...Rico Chiparelli or something. IIRC, he was a 3X Champ and it was like 12-0, 15-0, 10-0 or something like that. I can't evaluate it. Uetake, kinda the same thing. Guy was the best in the world while he was the best in the Country, but...it's just hard without seeing it in MY opinion.
  23. Jon Trenge... Did Koschek ever win one? I thought he was like 4,2,4,3 or something. Oh, Rivera. He's up there. Craig Brester. Did Backes ever win one? Ness, Palmer, Pletcher, Kollin Moore. Both Hidlay brothers, Cam Amine or Myles(whoever took the Bronze) And then a couple names I can't remember. There was a guy Q. Write beat a couple times and then Ruth beat him. Another kid from Lehigh. The Stanford Amuchastegui...Logan Storley, Evans Iowa.
  24. Betting on the wrong horse my friend. Sarah already went back and wiped them out. Now it's Nvidia who is taking the lead...and Jensen Huang is the new Miles Bennett Dyson!
