Found it once and lost it. When is senior men’s freestyle actually happening? Like what time do I log in to Flo and watch the darn thing.

AJ got an Olympic redshirt even though he didn’t do any qualifying events. Not to “what about” but it just seems like the precedent has been boned for a while now.

Do you have the same experience? It's hard to tell tone from text sometimes.

I'm with you here. It's harder to see improvements needed when you're in the system all the time. Heck someone in Flo could probably just sit with a few wrestling fans trying to use their site. That would show a bunch of suggested improvements immediately. Even yesterday I got on there to find a schedule for the senior men's freestyle at US Open, can't find it. I found multiple lists of athletes, a 5-day time range, and a variety of hype articles, but not the actual information I need to engage with the actual wrestling matches that I'm interested in. I did find the info on USA Wrestling... to me that's an easy disconnect to fix.

I'm usually for Jimmy threads but this is a head-scratcher. Jimmy probably knows that Iowa's 2027 class is pretty righteous, and that 2026 would be righteous too if Bassett's family hadn't gotten FOMO and pulled him out when they didn't get the extra perks they wanted and that Iowa likely never agreed to. Jimmy probably also knows that there aren't many Iowa fans here, but this would be a good way to get people to bag on Iowa for the zillionth time because he didn't post the thread on Iowa's forum, where the Iowa fans tend to congregate.

With you here. They have the staff time, so put it towards deep dives into more teams. The amount of attention put on Iowa for example could be put on another 10 teams. +1. I would go to Flo more often if it wasn't a social media feed experience.

Same. He's a little annoying sometimes sure but we would probably have a good time talking wrestling and somehow I have this strange ability to *not engage with online content I don't want to*. It's a superpower and I recommend it to anyone. Flo's improvements could really just come from some UI/UX tweaks to differentiate their content categories. They do SO MUCH - event coverage, technique videos, docs, interviews, latest news, match archives, multiple age levels, schedules, brackets, Floarena etc - that its easy to forget they started as a scrappy little start up. What they've done is truly impressive. But at some point with growth its good to re-evaluate the whole system. In my view with Flo's UI if you don't mind wading through mountains of content, you can find almost anything; if you enjoy browsing wrestling related content in general, you're set; but if you're somewhere in the middle, less tech-savvy, overwhelmed by content, maybe don't have a great computer or internet connection, or only get on Flo occasionally, it's easy to get lost and give up.

Yes, that's why I shared the information?? I'm with you on wrestling being a part of combat readiness. But regarding the OP's question, it's likely that the numbers and the direction of the current DoD don't bear out the investment of time and energy needed to start new athletic programs.

I actually would like less content, or at least better organization of their content. They're constantly pushing out new stuff, and it all gets the same priority/hierarchy treatment on their page. Lists, interviews, speculations, event schedules all fight for visibility on their page. This is fine for engaging with their page, but it makes it hard to engage with the sport they're covering. For example US Open is soon. I'd like to know when it is, how to watch, who's competing, and a general schedule of competition. I can find this information, but I have to open all their articles and read through them to find it; even then, the article I found linked me to several other articles. There should be a pinned article that just stays at the top of the home page or at least the International page with all this information, giving viewers easy access to the info they need. This happens consistently with their coverage of wrestling events. I'll have 5 Flo tabs open to compile the most basic of information for engaging with the event as a moderately informed individual. I'll add that its not just them, modern web design has moved away from "we're connecting you to your hobby" and towards "we want to be your hobby". So they're in line with the competing-for-clicks game but it would be nice if we didn't all have to play that game to watch wrestling coverage.

After NCAAs the champs get absolutely hounded for interviews and treated like celebrities. Not exactly the wrestler mentality of getting back to work and constant improvement. So I'd say its likely to be along the lines "I've been asked about the Hodge by 50 people in the last month so let it be known that I achieved a goal and am on to the next goal". That'd be my guess. Purposefully misinterpreting a 23 year old kid I've never met... nah

Are you plugged in to the changes that have happened? They are pulling women out of combat roles, blocking promotion of women in the ranks, and considering an blanket ban of women as soldiers. I'm not saying this is right or wrong because I have zero experience running a combat institution, but it is happening.

I hesitate to lay it out because I'm not a rules expert, so I'll be inviting all kinds "well your suggestion won't work so let's dismiss the whole idea" thinking. But here are some ideas to reduce subjectivity for stall calls in neutral, making it easier for the wrestlers and the refs to understand the expectations. Mat wrestling stall calls aren't nearly as egregiously subjective so I think for rule changes to be effective long term the focus should stay simple. Consistency - Automatic stall calls if you don't land a shot in a period. Fakes don't count, you need to actually advance your offense by getting a TD or creating a scramble. Simplify - Eliminate the edge stall calls completely. The way these are set up they are impossible to call consistently.

I'm with y'all here. 5-counts make stuff confusing. Edge stall calls make it confusing too - was it action or no? Depends on how well the wrestlers sold. It's an acting job. Push out point discourages offensive action bc I can win by pushing you out of bounds. No offense or mat control needed. Shot clock is a disaster in freestyle, refs get that wrong all the time. Just. Call. Stalling. Be consistent. It was done for decades. Was it perfect, no, but the new rules sure as heck haven't made it better. Simplify the rules to make it more objective.

I didn't mind him when he was the wrangler of the other talking heads. He was good at keeping people on track which is definitely a skill. Now though all the "me looking into the camera" videos just give me the creeps though. It reads like Flo has entered the content arms race - more videos but lower quality, more information but less originality. It's been a long time since I've read or heard anything on Flo that I hadn't read or heard elsewhere already.

Brands are stubborn. They don't want new ideas, they want better execution of their ideas. We'll see how it pans out.

I've watched thousands of matches and have never felt like 1-1 is the most common score. Maybe in heavyweight. Guys are going to stall. It's the hardest sport. If you want less stalling, refs need to call more stalling with clearer criteria. "I had no offense all match and only got dinged once in the third period" needs to end. Meanwhile one mat over a guy is in on a leg working through a shot and gets called for stalling. Inconsistency is the problem. Pushout point clears up ambiguity about edge stalling, which in my eyes has proved to be a gimmick. Inconsistent yes, but also gamifies the edge to be about perception rather than control or progressing your offense.

I mean... they could just be better about enforcing redshirt criteria. Olympic redshirt? Only if you took every opportunity to make the Olympic team. Medical redshirt? Only if you missed a set % of the season due to a documented injury and could not compete for the remainder of the season. It doesn't seem that complex. To get crazy you could throw away the Olympic redshirt, make actual redshirts only for freshman, and/or have redshirts get assigned/applied at the time of their occurrence.
