As an outsider, I have to think that the Brands’ bad attitudes and constant “us vs them” demeanors wear down their athletes. It’s probably hard to stay motivated for 4-6 years when working for guys who’s emotional range seems to start and stop at “f*** you”. Again I don’t know, just my observations on a less tangible part of leading/coaching.

Is this the year Oklahoma State steps up at The Big Dance?
alex1fly replied to AgaveMaria's topic in College Wrestling
Hopefully so. OSU will need him if they want to make top 5. Other options at 197 are a backup and a stud who's in redshirt. Yep exactly. -
Me too! I don't know the history or hurdles but it makes sense from a fan, wrestler, and "good for the sport" perspective. Have to think the broadcasting network would make good money, too. I picture all of college wrestling fandom watching each dual and viewership blowing NCAA tourney numbers out of the water.

Lol I love "PTFD". Don't forget Mastro who never figured out how to shoot or get off bottom and then quit mid season to run a zoo. PTFMD might be a little wordy though lol This Cowboy fan is hopeflu though! Squad is looking real good. Winning tight matches, getting bonus points, gassing out their opponents. If that continues then they certainly could place 2nd. I'd be happy with top five, for sure. Or even just seeing them perform to the best of their abilities. The last two years have been a blur of "what are they doing out there?" with a few bright spots in Fix and Plott. If I recall correctly OSU did place 3rd in 2021 and placed 2nd in 2019 or 2018. So it hasn't been THAT long since they've done well at NCAAs. But two years is a long time to be down in Cowboy Country. -
For the sake of discussion, who are the light schedulers? And what's the minimum # of matches required to go to NCAAs?
-
I'd be curious what the wrestlers think about it. How many prefer resting as much as possible, ducking hard matches, and only caring about the 3-5 days of wrestling in March (conference and NCAA tourneys)? Versus how many just want to go and compete against anybody over several months, prefer the dual atmosphere, etc?

From a fan perspective, duals are more fun for more people. It's a regular event on a weekend or an evening. Couple hours and you're done. Hype, excitement, momentum. Anyone can enjoy themselves at a dual, from serious fans to newbies to aspiring and former wrestlers. Less risk of injury to the athletes too. Tournaments are more of a grind and better suited for parents and die-hards. It's hard to follow all the matches/brackets and you often have to take time off of work to attend or even to view online.

Missouri vs Okie State 1pm CST

Exactly. Thanks! Glad to see I'm not the only one that was scratching their head at that. -

I like that stuff too. Something else Coleman did that stood out to me... during 174 SV period, Thompson got a takedown and refs awarded the points but didn't stop the match. Cowboy bench is losing their minds, Coleman included. But then at like 10 seconds left, Coleman just shrugs and sits back down. That's some finesse - knowing when to fight for your team and when to cool it down because you know it doesn't matter. That kind of finesse has been missing from the Cowboy bench for a while now and it's nice to have it back. Another odd Missouri coaching choice I noticed. I forget which match but the Mizzou guy was up like 5-2 with a few seconds left in the 3rd. Mizzou guy gets a questionable TD that doesn't get called but Mizzou coaches lose their minds and pressure the refs to review the no-call even though Mizzou has no brick left. But the thing is, TD or not the Mizzou guy is winning by a regular decision and the dual is already locked up for OSU. Not trying to call anybody out, it just seemed like a weird thing to grandstand on. -

Man, we (OSU) look like a bunch of bruisers out there. Quite different look than the last couple of post-Ferrari stress syndrome years. It's so awesome to see! Missouri did have some head scratchers. No backup at 133, sent out a backup at 149, at 125 they lost their brick and their guy got two stall calls within the first two minutes, and Mauller took basically zero shots. I"m used to seeing Mauller well, maul people. And also the refs... my goodness. What are they doing out there? I've never felt more consistently confused than this season about stall calls, stalemate calls, when they award takedowns/escapes, and edge of mat violations. -

OSU dual threads illuminate to me that I’m probably one of two Cowboy fans on this board, lol Will watch the dual tonight… sounds like the Cowboys came to wrestle. We’ll see how they do come tournament time. -
There’s plenty of salt in the Big 12 towards Missouri for leaving the Big 12 and then crawling back last year. I’m not part of that group but they’re vocal for sure. Kind of annoying actually
-
Cowboys lock up the dual. #4 vs #7 for heavyweight. announcer said that Schultz weighed in at 283 lbs. Jesus Christ lol
-
Parko with the decision 11-3 OSU
-
Jamison with a major. Finding his offense again. Foote is unranked so you kind of expect that. One of the takedowns Jamison set him down so gently lol

Good day for your guys when they can major top ten opponents. Beastly performances from Plott and Fix. Robb a pleasant surprise. Jamison and Thompson need to figure out their offenses again. Carr is the real deal and it’s been fun watching Bastida grow in folk.
-
Should be fairly easy to judge whether someone sitting next to you wants to answer a bunch of questions. Sometimes folks do, sometimes they don't.
-
I see an upset or two brewing in either direction. Always a homer, I want to see our new guys continue to elevate and prove themselves. Plott and Olejnik both get two top ten opponents today and tomorrow. Youch.
-
Exactly. He knows the sport and is a good contributor. But also loves to be the center of attention with a new (and often useless) thread every couple of days. He must get a kick out of it but I'd rather him just discuss wrestling than try to be the board jester. Whatcha gonna do though lol
-
He’s just covering for when no one will let him wrestle. Which is awesome lol
-
Can we move past the "He's only wrestled six matches" bs?

Its not enough to win everything! The top program must be at the top of EVERY list! Lol -
Would adding a Dual Championship actually change anything?

“Are duals any different than tournaments” Just look at the dual vs tournament rankings. -
Limiting the number of matches - any negative consequences?
alex1fly replied to AgaveMaria's topic in College Wrestling
This is missing from the conversation. What do the wrestlers want - a couple matches and then one post season tournament? 20 matches and two post season tournaments? Duals or no duals? Also, is this devaluing of the regular season happening in other sports? Genuinely curious.
