I'm sorry but there is zero chance that "not getting a handful of free flights" is the reason Bo decommitted. Absolutely zero. That's a cover, I don't care what any social media warriors or wrestling content creators say about it.

Well said. Kid committed and had regrets. That’s fine. “Bad for the sport” is an overreaction.

Short matches and lots of scrambles. Pre-determined scenarios to demonstrate the huge range of attacks and pinning combinations in the sport. Instead of stall calls, put a guy in on another guy's leg. Get rid of any rule that's mildly subtle or confusing. Have some way to rack up advantage points that the wrestler can make a choice with during the match and during the season. Let viewers have input on matchups. Lastly for the love of god have some stats besides height and weight! Shots per match, go-to moves, anything to help viewers get an idea of wrestlers styles and brainstorm matchups.

If a fan gets a takedown, it counts as 4 points.

lol, thanks! So he's not involved with the sport itself anymore? Doesn't go to tournaments or interview people or help out with his local camps or teams?
-
I’m sure this will have folks rolling their eyes but I’m genuinely curious. I get the Flo guys - they work for a media company. I get Willie - he travels, hustles, gets to know wrestlers at all levels, and surely a lot more. Ok. But I don’t get Pat Mineo. Did/does he wrestle/coach? Does he travel to events? Is he a sports writer? All I can find on the guy is his social media pages and the fact that he contributes various wrestling medias at times.

So Beau is off to an RTC... does that mean he is not wrestling in the folkstyle season? Or as an unattached perhaps?

All this transgender athlete fuss lately. . .
alex1fly replied to Wrasslin's topic in College Wrestling
That's why they aren't out there making blanket statements about it. They know that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work for this issue, and they know that Culture Warriors are waiting for any opportunity to jump down their throats. It's hard to solve real problems. -

All this transgender athlete fuss lately. . .
alex1fly replied to Wrasslin's topic in College Wrestling
100% In the real world (so not your phone/tv/computer/radio) transgender athletes are treated on a case by case basis. Let the sports administrators do their jobs and stop getting baited into being mad about something that rarely happens and when it does, the people that it actually affects tend to not care or are in support of it. Exactly "Ah yes I will get gender reassignment surgery (painful, expensive, and I'll get ostracized by society) so I can go compete against women for HARDLY ANY GLORY OR MONEY" said nobody -
I watched a bit as I generally enjoy BTS stuff. OP is clearly enjoying tearing the lady down. It's a win win!

Not to stir the pot. But if he's such a turd then why hire him. Was he just the best choice at the time for the decision makers?

AJ Ferrari on the market again?
alex1fly replied to Interviewed_at_Weehawken's topic in College Wrestling
I don't follow Mineo much, but he seems like a person that thrives on any kind of attention. So why wouldn't he post this. I'm also astounded at the amount of simping for Ferrari, to the point where people are harassing a real person for what, daring to publish an opinion that isn't even controversial? If I ever get to the point where my hobbies and interests lead me to actually try and harm somebody, please slap some sense into me. -
No I wouldn't be, but I've seen the process of rebuilding D1 athletics programs many times over and the best way to crash the process is having your coaching staff on the hot seat their entire tenure. Recruits see it too - who's happy to go to OU wrestling (or any other struggling D1 athletics program) now? Someone without a lot of other options or wants the underdog persona. That's not bad per se, but it can't be the only flavor for your program or you will not have sustainable success. Not to say you give a new coach 100% leeway and trust for a decade with no accountability, but there's something to be said for finding a middle ground where the coaches have some time (aka more than 1 season) to build their system.
-
What's up with OU donors? They sure do seem to chase out the guys they hire. Are they already mad at Kish after two seasons?

AJ Ferrari on the market again?
alex1fly replied to Interviewed_at_Weehawken's topic in College Wrestling
People forget these are academic institutions too. You don’t just commit to an athletics team. My bet is that a deal was made, then he applied for admissions, and got rejected as the process played out. -
AJ Ferrari on the market again?

That's kinda what I thought too. Was surprised he would take Ferrari on. There's a lot to do as a head coach without also wrangling a powder keg. -
AJ Ferrari on the market again?

OP jumped to a conclusion for sure. I was a little shocked to read it. But, not surprising that there was immediate pushback. -

I mean did you read it? If you’re an admin with no wrestling knowledge, it’s a pretty eye opening read. There’s no middle ground coming out of that article lol -
We need a legitimate amateur wrestling video game
alex1fly replied to Peak Out's topic in College Wrestling
Madden is pretty complicated and people do ok. Agreed that the demand would probably not be enough to pay for the development of the game. -
WTT Finals were wrestled on a college mat
alex1fly replied to KennyEBHS's topic in International Wrestling
Wow for real? I had no idea there is such a difference in mat size for college. Crazy. -

As a casual gamer I've thought this for a while now. Wrestling is perfectly set up to translate to common gaming mechanics. Movement, button combinations for offense/defense, combos, power-ups, character stats, skill trees... not to mention gameplay modes like Season, head-to-head, tourneys, time trials, etc. It'd be difficult to develop from a software perspective, and would need gamers/developers/wrestling experts, but if it was done well it could be REALLY cool. -
Same. What a ride. I can't even tell what people are arguing about anymore, which is one of the more fun arguments to follow.
