Who will win OTTs at 86kg, 97kg, and 125kg? [Corrected]
JeanGuy replied to peanut's topic in International Wrestling
I will say that 125kg is really interesting to me especially without Steveson -
I personally think that it can really take some guys a long time to be good at freestyle. Knowing when to give up positions seems to be really important. FS seems to have a lot of gaming involved. Getting taken down get to the edge and only give up one. Force the ref to call fleeing. In on a deep shot can easily lead to getting yourself exposed. I don't know what others think but it seems to me to be something you have to learn.

Olympic Trials State College Guide
JeanGuy replied to stealyphil223's topic in International Wrestling
Depends if you are looking at walking and being in downtown or open to other places. Most all of these spots are within 5-miles of the BJC. The downtown bar scene is what you would expect in a college town. A new place just opened on Allen Street haven't been there myself but it looks like a good space. food beyond the typical bar fare in town - Central Reservation | State College's Newest Bar, Local Whiskey | State College's Premier Whiskey Bar (localwhiskeybar.com) both near the corner of Beaver and Allen are pretty respectable. Allen Street Grill cocktails + dining and The Tavern Restaurant - State College, PA will dig a little deeper into your pocket but both are pretty good. Driving out of town I would say Champs Sports Grill | State College's Best Sports Bar, HOME | Happy Valley Brew Co (happyvalleybeer.com), Otto's Pub and Brewery | Craft Brewery | 2235 North Atherton Street, State College, PA USA (ottospubandbrewery.com), and Barrel 21 Distillery & Dining | craft spirits | 2255 North Atherton Street, State College, PA, USA are all pretty decent. There are others that I have missed but this is a good place to start. Others will I am sure have other spots. -
It is really recruiting. I think the time of finding diamonds in the rough and coaching them up is mostly over. The best kids are wrestling the best kids all over the country and the world. The top guys in recruiting rankings really are the top guys now. Coaching is about having enough flexibility to know what each guy needs to be his best version.

Didn't Nagao come into the season with some kind of injury? At one point is was said to be pretty serious but he missed limited time. It does take time to adjust to a new team even if it is the same philosophy. I wonder if part of the Cael approach requires you to know how much you need to be pushed yourself. Some guys need the grind and you have to know if that is who you are. Nagao did show some really bad takedown defense this year. He wrestled a lot of close matches and ended up on the wrong side. Crookham 4-6, Ragusin SV Pin, Bouzakis 7-13, Shawver SV 6-9 were his regular season losses. He seemed overwhelmed by Yarbrough's pace and could never get going. It will be interesting to see what happens next year.

Keckheisen is going to win the Hodge and here's why
JeanGuy replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
I think you have to look at the context of the match not just the score. Keck wasn't close to a takedown at any point and he gave up riding time. He was handled. -
The trials are only the small part. Win that and then the work begins.

Everyone will know after next football season where Keuter will fall. If he is a legit football prospect all of the two-sport praise will end, and Ferentz will say decide. If he is in the football plans beyond special teams they will need him 100% focused. I am also of the why save redshirts especially now the way they give out extra medical years.

Over/Under on Ferraris in Iowa's lineup for B10's: 1.5
JeanGuy replied to 1032004's topic in College Wrestling
I'm all for giving guys a second chance but I would struggle to knowingly bring a predator onto a college campus. Guys make a lot of mistakes when they are young (drinking, fighting, etc.) but being predatory towards anyone just isn't acceptable. I know the criminal charges were dismissed but something happened that wasn't good. Hopefully if he comes back he will be a better version of himself. -
It is pretty amazing that Nico is still at or near world class being only a part time wrestler.

Hmmm. I don't know what that means now. You are scoring (or not) team points but you remain in RS. This is YUGE. Let the debates begin.

Right now, nobody knows if he can play NCAA football or if he is a high-level NCAA wrestler. There have been many great athletes not be able to make that jump let alone the jump to NFL or International Sr. Level wrestling. Kid seems to be a great prospect in both, and it will be fun to watch his progress.

At the time I found his whole retirement tour kind of odd. Where does he slot....that is a tough one for me. He is clearly dominant but in his own way. I do think he could be a pinner but he doesn't seem interested in doing so. I am not sure why that is but it seems to be. I wonder if was because there was never any team goals for him. I think all of your three timers you could throw a blanket over they are that close.

new 3 point takedown....get ready to see tons of tech falls?
JeanGuy replied to Bardamu911's topic in College Wrestling
I really don't think it will change how anyone wrestles. I watch FS and guys get put on the passivity clock and it doesn't change the way they wrestle. They just realize they are giving up a point. Active guys will be active and guys that counter will still counter. Guys that are passive will continue to be passive. If a guy can take someone down seven times to none I have no problem with it being a tech a fall instead of 14-6. -
As someone that grew up 2.5 miles from Whiskey Point, I am willing to defend the site.

Nothing happened to her. In this day and age if you do something like she did on film you are going to be a meme. If you react right it goes away. Is she really so damaged that she can't go to a wrestling match/tournament? I mean I saw it and thought it was funny do no big deal in the grand scheme of things. If the Lee's want to portray her as some great victim, it will only grow the incident. To try to tie that to Spencer having to leave America to save his family is lame. It is just such a nothing story. Just my opinion but I have also been told I am absolutely heartless and have no feelings.
