  1. I am a relatively new fan of wrestling. I don't find one any easier to explain to someone than the other. In folk you can watch two guys roll around for 40 seconds and there are no points scored because they are both holding on to a foot. Or as others have said here is a lace and the match is now over. Neither is made for the uninitiated. Just embrace that they are different and enjoy both (or all three).
  2. Especially the way scholastic stuff is going today. A 21-year-old might be a college Freshman. Lee is 25 and wrestling his first major Sr. level event. I know he had his own unusual circumstances with injuries, but the point is the same. Brooks is 24. You have Nolf stuck behind Dake and he is 28 and getting ready to time out. Messenbrink is already 21. It is hard to make up that time.
  3. I think it is poorly named. People watch a guy dart in and out, shoot, etc. and then get put on the clock. People see that as forcing the action. When in fact in F/S they want the wrestles to really work their offense from ties. So passivity isn't the right name. I don't know what I would call it but you know what the referee is looking for.

  5. That may be, but Spencer is the one that comes off poorly. I understand the disappointment but you need to be better. The Olympics is if nothing else supposed to be about sportsmanship.
  6. seems like the Amine family has wrestled for a lot of countries.
  7. You see folkstyle guys make that mistake at crucial times. Brooks got to that single and was thinking hang on for 30 seconds and I win because if that guy comes over the top and turn you when you still have control there is not scoring. I look at this way, as experience grows mentally it becomes second nature to not rely on the old tricks. I remember watching Rehterford take a lot of F/S losses early were all he needed to do was give up a position and get back to his feet but he kept trying to work a bad folk position and got punished for it.
  8. Brooks tried to use a folk position (hold on to the single) to get to the end but Bul just went over the top. I think that is an experience thing.
  9. I think you need to watch a little more football. These guys have tremendous athleticism and skills. Braden Fiske from Florida State this year is 6'4" 292 lbs. He ran a 4.78 40 with a 33.5" vertical leap. I would guess Gable isn't even in the ball park with those numbers. These guys have tremendous hands and feet to do what they do. Comparing Gable to Aaron Donald is only relevant from a size perspective. Donald was so skilled and athletic that he was a unicorn. I know this is a wrestling board and people are more likely to give wrestlers the benefit of the doubt, but NFL players are a whole different level of athletic.
  10. Patrick Queen 6'-0" 230lbs Bobby Wagner 6'-0" 240lbs Roquan Smith 6'-1" 236lbs Fred Warner 6'-3" 230lbs All right in line with your thoughts. There are no more Levon Kirklands out there.
  11. I obviously don't know his situation but I have been around a Big Ten football program and they often know pretty fast no matter what a recruit ranking was if they think that guy can be a player. In Kueter they see a guy with options so maybe they advised him of his best option. You don't step away from a program from a year and come back better. Or maybe he just prefers wrestling.
  12. I hate to be that guy but his "choice" probably came from a heart to heart with Ferentz. Not in the plans. It's not 100% but after a season they probably fell like they know what they have in him.
  13. Does he even get the chance to compete for it? Sometimes coaches make promises, and they won't back pedal even if they are wrong.
  14. When guys move up it is almost a stock answer to say that, "I wanted to focus on getting better at wrestling not cutting weight." I always wonder about weight classes then I stood next to Zain Retherford in Moe's one day and next to Bo Bartlett at a convenience store another time and realized these guys are pretty small overall.
  15. It is funny people say that he has the athleticism, but I don't think anyone knows how athletic he is compared to guys that are the freakiest of freak athletes. The size and speed of NFL players is just different from other sports.
  16. It is really hard to say what Cael would have done internationally had he dedicated to it. He didn't go to the World Championships in 2001 to focus on folk and the US didn't go in 2002. So, he won silver in 2003 and won Olympics in 2004 and that was it until he came back in 2011 at 32 without almost a decade of competition and finished 5th. That really isn't too bad for not really focusing on F/S.
  17. How can you go wrong with Jan Michael Vincent, Tim Conway and John Amos. He really isn't all that athletic. He is for his sport but not in the big picture of sports. There is no place for him in football.
  18. Well since Dake rarely loses and never loses to Americans I would say not until it is clear he is done. So solid and strong. The only one I could even see is Starocci. He is a guy that is playing the same game as Dake.
  19. I can trim down a bunch of athletes in a hurry. Eliminate - BMX Racing and BMX Freestyle, 3x3Basketball, Sport Climbing, Flag Football, Trampoline, Golf and Skateboarding. That should be enough spots for full weight classes. These events should have never been in the Olympics.
  20. What is the problem? They must be strikes since he called them strikes. The bigger issue is worth MLB not being able to get rid of him.
  21. I am not sure, but I think you know when you are outclassed. When you feel the opponent's strength and motor.
  22. I have never booed anybody at any sporting event, not even Angel Hernandez or Angel Rivera. It doesn't make me feel any better so I don't. These social media fights get fans riled up. Cormier got JB to go a little heel at NCAA's which led to back and forth. You can argue about who the heel was but at the Bryce Jordan Center it was always going to be JB. I really don't see it as a big deal either way. I can't control how people act and react.
