  1. I don’t think they’re looking at 2022, or even 2023 for Mendez. They’re comparing 2024 Mendez vs 2023 Alirez
  2. Can we make this the predictions thread? 125: Iowa dec 3-0 Iowa 133: Frost Dec Ayala 3-3 141: Redding Dec Block 6-3 ISU 149: Parco Dec Echemendia 6-6 157: Johnson Dec Teemer 9-6 ISU 165: Caliendo maj 10-9 Iowa 174: Brands Dec 13-9 184: Arnold Dec Bockman 16-9 197: Buchanan dec Carroll 19-9 285: Bastida Dec Kerk 19-12 There are several interesting matches but even giving them a few upsets/tossups I’m not really seeing a path for ISU here.
  3. I believe they’ve acknowledged P4P has more of a subjectiveness to it, no? If we’re talking Ferrari, don’t we have to acknowledge his loss to Glazier? I know they don’t count injury defaults, not sure if there is a policy on post match DQ’s.
  4. I agree with Alirez #1, but unless I missed it I’m not seeing that he’s ever wrestled Matthews edit: ah, looks like it was at a previous All-Star
  5. I wouldn’t rule out Arnold in Carver, especially if it’s true he’s put on weight since last season
  6. Not sure what the specific reason was especially since he wrestled 133 his first year after transferring, but Matt Ramos finished higher than Pat McKee in each of the last 2 NCAA’s and was also 3-0 against him.
  7. I would think the scripted aspect would be the key point.
  8. Don’t they barely support many of their own fighters?
  9. Except to wrestle this season he is probably making at least 4-5 years worth of salary of the average recent college grad, not bad for playing a sport (on top of what he made in WWE and with the Bills). I saw someone that put it pretty well…this is probably just a job for him. Can’t fault him for cashing in while he still can.
  10. Bonus isn’t really factored in rankings is it? Yes Mendez had a tougher schedule overall by virtue of being in the B10, but Alirez still racked up a lot of good wins (as did Mendez of course). I wouldn’t complain if Mendez was #1, but I think the reasoning to have Alirez #1 makes sense
  11. You could argue this ranking is inconsistent with ranking O’Toole above Haines, but I disagree. That’s probably the Cole Matthews factor
  12. This seems like good enough reason to me. Especially since Alirez beat one of those two losses (Bartlett) in his only try, although I know Mendez also beat him at B10’s and NCAA’s. What argument does Mendez have over Alirez unless maybe you start going back to 2022?
  13. Would probably also throw Sasso in the mix but I think I’d agree that Bearclaw could be the biggest threat with the familiarity factor probably playing a role
  14. Couldn’t handle the southeast heat I guess though, took 2 losses at the Southeast Open to guys from Chattanooga and UVA…after also losing to a different guy from UVA in the dual the week prior
  15. Don’t remember, you may be right, I know he had done that with a couple commitments I believe, although I also think he has since stopped for the most part
  16. I would put that more on the apparent injury most likely. He had a great year for a true freshman, but he wasn’t exactly “prolific” last year IMO. He should’ve lost to Kilkeary, and a lot of his wins were very close including 2 SV wins en route to his B10 title. I’d be very surprised to see him place top 5 at 133, but he could certainly AA.
  17. I agree he does that too, don’t believe it was the case here. I do see a thread on BWI or whatever they’re calling it these days about “wrestleoff rumors,” not sure but it appears to be based off Minnow’s tweet(s). He actually posted in the thread saying Beau Bartlett supposedly asked him to take them down
  18. I mean obviously it wasn’t someone from the staff, but my guess is he gets some of his info from the wrestlers themselves or parents that talk too much. I believe I saw someone mentioned an interview where Cody Sanderson said “there were no wrestleoffs,” but that could be just semantics in that they didn’t call it a wrestleoff. Minnow’s posts definitely deserve skepticism and he often doesn’t have the full story, but I do feel like most of the time when he is wrong is when he does the “I’m hearing” thing. He seemed pretty definitive in the comments about the wrestleoffs.
  19. Lilledahl took a forfeit against Drexel, I guess that is confirmation there is no thought of redshirting him
  20. Is it possible the guys that are redshirting are doing so so that they can transfer?
  21. IMO, it was a “regular takedown” after the danger situation(s). Right before Drexel threw the brick.
  22. I had that thought for a second also, although it was hard to tell from the camera angle. But I’m skeptical since even though the ref was on the wrong side at first, when he got to the other side the position hadn’t really changed IMO and he did not count danger.
  23. Didn’t realize this happened 2 weeks ago but did we talk about Wisconsin losing 24-15 to Ohio? Not State.
  24. Pretty crazy scramble starts around 10:15. Davis shoots and comes close to a TD of his own, but then Waterman comes close to a danger TD, and then a regular TD right afterwards. Not nearly as egregious as the Kilkeary match last year, but I kinda think he was taken down there. edit: worth noting that Davis did appear to tweak his knee early in the match which could have impacted him
  25. I doubt Bo’s politics had anything to do with the fan backlash. UFC fans probably lean right and the same crowd gave huge applause to Trump and his entourage.
