Ford offers employee pricing to EVERYONE!!
1032004 replied to JimmySpeaks's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
Congrats, you’re a sucker for marketing. Pretty sure “employee pricing” isn’t that much of a deal anyway and they have offered it at times historically (far more than “1%”). They’re just trying to capitalize on the current press and misunderstanding about the tariffs. A lot of people probably don’t realize that a lot of “foreign” cars are produced in America, and some “American” ones aren’t. Here’s the “American made index.” Honda has the most models in the top 20 (5) and Toyota has 4. The first Ford model comes in at #31 and the next at #56. https://www.cars.com/articles/2024-cars-com-american-made-index-which-cars-are-the-most-american-484903/ Also, I don’t think many sane people were saying prices will go up on “everything.” Cars had seen crazy price increases due to Covid, so may be due to come down even with the tariffs. Possibly in part because it’s a major purchase that people might put off if they’re not confident in the overall state of the economy. -
I didn’t dispute that rural was red, I was saying there was a middle ground between rural and suburban. And also that “rural America” hasn’t really produced all that many top wrestlers recently.

No clue if this account has any inside info, they do have 6k followers which is on the higher side as far as wrestling twitter goes
-
Saying otherwise about what exactly? Welsh said he got offered “a lot more” to go to other schools, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t also offered “a lot” to go to PSU, or at the very least more than the minimum that everyone on the team gets.
-
Actually your source has more data available, with the most recent (2023) leaning red: https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2024/04/09/partisanship-in-rural-suburban-and-urban-communities/ But according to that it’s pretty even, although I’d still bet it’s skewed by a few bigger metros where the suburbs do lean blue, but many don’t. Also to your earlier point about farmers or whatever, there is a middle ground between suburban and rural, towns that are like an hour or so from bigger cities, and the further from the city you get the more red they generally lean. If I had to guess I’d bet many top wrestlers are from exurban areas like that. For example looking at this year’s champs based on the hometown listed on their roster, I would probably only count one as being from a rural area. Robinson: Chicago (urban) Byrd: Cincinnati (urban/maybe suburban) Mendez: Crown Point, IN (suburban/maybe exurban depending on your definition) Lovett: Post Falls, ID (suburban/maybe exurban depending on your definition) Taylor: Millard, NE (suburban) Mesenbrink: Hartland, WI (suburban) Hamiti: Joliet, IL (exurban) Starocci: Erie, PA (urban) Buchanan: Loyal, WI (rural) Hendrickson: Newton, KS (exurban)

Haven’t car companies been offering this promotion for like decades? -
No not saying he did, just saying someone might not want to compete against the coach’s son
-
I have no clue but I wouldn’t rule it out. Keep in mind PSU also has guys like Henckel and Cunningham coming in around that weight. Maybe he didn’t want to be like Patrick Kennedy and have to compete against the coaches son.
-
Well how are we defining “improper” here? As long as the coaches weren’t involved it seems they didn’t do anything against the rules (and neither did Iowa in getting Buchanan and Teemer)
-
He deleted it prior to Ryder entering the portal. Was it because he heard Ryder was entering the portal, or just because it wasn’t very sportsmanlike, who knows

One very large country was omitted from Trump's list of tariffs

Wisconsin Landslide: Referendum Against Trump/Musk
1032004 replied to red viking's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
I honestly didn’t even know there was a voter ID thing on the ballot until after the election. But saw a lot of press about how much money both sides, including Musk, were spending on the race. As well as several comments from Musk about how important the race was, and several comments from anti-Musk people about how “the Wisconsin Supreme Court race is a referendum on Elon Musk!” If Musk really thought the voter ID thing was more important, he did a piss poor job of getting that message across. Or, he moved the goalposts. -
Fake dodgeball injury?

Nagao Sealey Kennedy if he can’t make 157 Bouzakis if he can’t make 125 Geog Carter Young
-
Kennedy is more likely to make 157 than Caliendo IMO, and he might need to if he wants a spot. But he’s not beating Kasak, Caliendo isn’t beating Mesenbrink, and Arnold isn’t beating Haines, so it’s impossible for their back half to be better than PSU.

What do you mean “beyond what the cooperative pays”? I know the money is not coming from the school/coaches, but I gotta think most times the coach is aware of who the boosters are going after and can make a recommendation if they disagree. Considering Rocco said “he was offered a lot more at other places,” he was definitely offered something to go to State College. But I wouldn’t have put it past Cael to tell the boosters not to offer him anything. I know Tom Ryan has said he tells the entire team when they’re interested in a portal guy. I think that would make more sense than just asking someone who might be at the same weight.
-
I believe one or two idiots over there may have suggested it. Certainly not “dozens”
-
Will greed, pure greed be Cael’s downfall?
1032004 replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
No, because even if there is a “downfall,” it will likely be to Taylor, who appears to be employing pretty much the same tactics. -
Did PSUs weak schedule ruin starocci’s chances of the hodge?
1032004 replied to Caveira's topic in College Wrestling
But to answer the question I’d say no. I thought the quality of competition criteria was pretty close. IMO what made Wyatt the correct answer were his pins, and Carter’s instances of poor sportsmanship. -

This is a good point, I know Pyles as an example would constantly talk about how he beat Keckeisen “twice.” I don’t recall if he also used the “higher bonus %” argument though? But, to be fair, looks like giving Starocci 1 more decision victory actually makes his bonus rate exactly equal to Wyatt’s, not lower (and I don’t believe you claimed it did). I know @Husker_Du did call out (using one of his voices) that it was silly for people to say “but Carter had a higher bonus rate!” because it was only the difference of 1 match. -
2 decades except for 14 of those 20 years, got it!

Yeah, except for 1999-2005 and 2010-2016, but other than that the whole time!
