  1. If Asics or Rudis wanted to pay him it would be reasonable but last I checked Bob doesn't run a business that would benefit from using a wrestler
  2. Taking 4 and the under isn't crazy. Assuming you'd get a push if it lands on 4 that's a lot of medalists. There's a world where Spencer is our only medalist (there's also like 6 guys who are going to win some matches and very well could end up with a bronze).
  3. I'm not against more folkstyle but kids are wrestling freestyle and folkstyle from a pretty young age. I like having two seasons.
  4. Historically the workaround was pay the athlete while they're not in the US, not sure if that's changed at all. I wouldn't be surprised to see a small increase in Japanese wrestlers competing in the NCAA. We have had guys train at VT's RTC and Henson spent a week or two at NSSU, assuming this is happening somewhat regularly at other schools. The more exposure the more likely it is that we'll see guys coming in.
  5. Stupid question time: why does it feel like US/Japan are the only two countries who consistently have a lineup where 5+ wrestlers don't have gas tank issues?
  6. nhs67 mentioned Hunter, Ryan was brought up after but you're correct he would count assuming he wins the spot. Not too familiar with who else if anybody UVA has at HWT.
  7. Catka redshirted in 2022, he battled Mullen for the starting spot last year. Should be good at Rutgers.
  8. I don't think that's how it works. I think Cody Howard was un-enrolled for a period of time to help with roster/scholarship limits or something along those lines and his eligibility clock kept ticking.
  9. Technically you can't speak to other schools if you aren't in the portal that would be considered tampering. Joining the portal also allows your team to not honor the scholarship. You can theoretically just transfer and walk on anywhere without joining the portal. In reality none of these rules are closely enforced. If a big school wants to contact you they will. If a coach wants you off the team, you'll be off the team. "DNC's" get contacted. Portal makes it easy to organize but it's still the wild west.
  10. Last I heard he was waiting on a class but that was a while ago and first session summer classes would be over... and I think second session would be ending right about now. Going to assume NCSU fell through
  11. Folk and free are close enough and even compliment each other to some degree. Two seasons is a good thing, and it's abundantly clear which two styles people care about.
  12. A few very rare situations that require a lot of assumptions could make this nothing but bad luck
  13. None of the individual allegations would bother me in isolation but... Loaded handgun: fine, should probably be properly registered but I can overlook that Expired tags: Don't care - but know that your tags are expired and behave accordingly Weed stuff: Don't care but while driving is stupid Three extra handguns in the car: If he's specifically on his drive to move, sure but probably lock them away. Any other case this one is weird. All of the above: That's a bit shady. If this were a guy named Pat Downey or AJ Ferrari everybody would be skewering him. He's very likeable and historically is a good dude but this is a bad look.
  14. Bill Bassett (my real answer is Jordan Burroughs, international success and all the top kids now grew up watching him win gold)
  15. I know this is sarcasm but 2-4 were reportedly offered by at least one school
  16. I think the US gets smoked, looks like Russias 1's & 2's vs. our 3's & 4's. Would rather see him in the ranking series.
  17. Interesting that Andonian isn't competing but he will be there for the USA-Russia dual. Anybody else doing just one match?
  18. It wasn't the main point he they claimed you couldn't get NIL until after high school graduation. Regarding the 250 mile rule. It's not enforced and I've heard it's going away although not sure on that. My whole point is that NLWC takes advantage of the same types of loopholes that CWC and everybody else does.
  19. Bo Nickal is the worst, NIL is legal for HS kids in both PA and OK. NCAA compliance is a different gray area but he has no idea what he's talking about and his description made it illegal for Marcus Blaze to train at PSU prior to his very recent graduation
  20. In theory there should be, 90% of private NIL would not have met the threshold per some report I read a month or two ago so I am paraphrasing. In practice, I doubt it's that strict. People will figure out the loopholes - they always do.
  21. They're 2-2 against each other and both national champs, Caleb a favorite to become a 2Xer. Both have other guys around that weight that can push Bo as well.
  22. It sounds like UNC was trying to stop compounding negative press not Jordon Hudson of all people pushing a deny button. Not that he deserves anything but the fact that your football coaches girlfriend brings so much negative press that you can't let a wrestler in is absolutely bizarre.
  23. I give Mekhi the win bc of Carter locking hands during rideouts but that has nothing to do with Covid years and everything to do with me being an extreme homer.
  24. Not saying you're wrong but I've seen plenty of victims go to the current GF and still be afraid to go to police. Have you heard of the facebook group "have you dated that guy before?" ....that's basically the entire premise and it's very common for people to go that route, also very common for them to exaggerate so I'm not saying Carter is guilty just that the way this is being reported is not exonerating him either.
