Christian Pyles most disingenuous take.
HokieDave87 replied to BruceyB's topic in International Wrestling
Emphasis on the boring. -
A few very rare situations that require a lot of assumptions could make this nothing but bad luck
-
None of the individual allegations would bother me in isolation but... Loaded handgun: fine, should probably be properly registered but I can overlook that Expired tags: Don't care - but know that your tags are expired and behave accordingly Weed stuff: Don't care but while driving is stupid Three extra handguns in the car: If he's specifically on his drive to move, sure but probably lock them away. Any other case this one is weird. All of the above: That's a bit shady. If this were a guy named Pat Downey or AJ Ferrari everybody would be skewering him. He's very likeable and historically is a good dude but this is a bad look.

You're the AD: give the bag to a coach or a wrestler? 💰💰💰

Bill Bassett (my real answer is Jordan Burroughs, international success and all the top kids now grew up watching him win gold) -
I know this is sarcasm but 2-4 were reportedly offered by at least one school

Budapest ranking series july 17-20 holy crap
HokieDave87 replied to Truzzcat's topic in International Wrestling
I think the US gets smoked, looks like Russias 1's & 2's vs. our 3's & 4's. Would rather see him in the ranking series. -
Budapest ranking series july 17-20 holy crap

Interesting that Andonian isn't competing but he will be there for the USA-Russia dual. Anybody else doing just one match? -
It wasn't the main point he they claimed you couldn't get NIL until after high school graduation. Regarding the 250 mile rule. It's not enforced and I've heard it's going away although not sure on that. My whole point is that NLWC takes advantage of the same types of loopholes that CWC and everybody else does.
-
Bo Nickal is the worst, NIL is legal for HS kids in both PA and OK. NCAA compliance is a different gray area but he has no idea what he's talking about and his description made it illegal for Marcus Blaze to train at PSU prior to his very recent graduation
-
In theory there should be, 90% of private NIL would not have met the threshold per some report I read a month or two ago so I am paraphrasing. In practice, I doubt it's that strict. People will figure out the loopholes - they always do.
-
They're 2-2 against each other and both national champs, Caleb a favorite to become a 2Xer. Both have other guys around that weight that can push Bo as well.

Belichik’s GF kept Ferrari out of UNC?…
HokieDave87 replied to Jammanex's topic in College Wrestling
It sounds like UNC was trying to stop compounding negative press not Jordon Hudson of all people pushing a deny button. Not that he deserves anything but the fact that your football coaches girlfriend brings so much negative press that you can't let a wrestler in is absolutely bizarre. -
Carter Starocci faces allegations of sexual assault and theft
HokieDave87 replied to VakAttack's topic in College Wrestling
Not saying you're wrong but I've seen plenty of victims go to the current GF and still be afraid to go to police. Have you heard of the facebook group "have you dated that guy before?" ....that's basically the entire premise and it's very common for people to go that route, also very common for them to exaggerate so I'm not saying Carter is guilty just that the way this is being reported is not exonerating him either. -

Also if you care enough to have a nice watch that's at least a few grand for special occasions you almost certainly have a Movado/Bulova or something around 500+ that you wear daily. -
Seen plenty of high school football stars get their drivers license before the majority of the grade. It's more evident in wrestling because if the top 4 guys do it that's a major % of the starting lineup but it's common in football as well, and I'm sure in other sports I don't pay attention to.

Minnow was posting rumors from the MMA board after Tom Ryan publicly said "Amy shared with me that the family is requesting prayers but choosing privacy at this time" - ruining HS kids announcements is one thing, this makes him a genuinely bad human being.
-
I've never seen any kid/program get penalized for the 250 mile rule and I've seen kids train across the country while still in HS. I'm assuming the last point is what happened.

Schwab is no DT, but he definitely would move the needle
-
I think it's very common for guys not within the 250 mile radius to train on their own dime at their future school. I don't know about the Jax Forrest situation where they're paying to bring him in. I guess he is on a world team so you could be bringing in a training partner but I think Iowa would be all over that if they could/wanted to be. It also seems like a very extreme ask to bring in Keegan Bassett to help his RTC guys train. If I had to guess I'm going to guess Bill Bassett is at fault here and maybe Brands could've handled it better but overall had the right idea.

The reasons he stated he committed are where I disagree, this is all speculation but I think most of that was probably just natural stuff you say when you pick a place: 1. Fan growing up: He was a PSU fan 2. Passionate fanbase: True; but maybe a little more than he bargained for when he saw it up close 3. Tom & Terry: Don't think anybody is truly picking TnT over the staff at PSU/Ok State and even others at this point 4. Jesus Trained: You can be a Jesus trained guy at Iowa but there are other places that do a lot more of that stuff 5. Spencer Lee: I think this was the actual reason, and picking a school to train with a guy who's going to be a few weight classes below you, and doing a lot of traveling doesn't seem like a it should win when you really think about it. 2/5 were objectively true here. Couple this with a potential issue (I don't think the money disappeared for him, but maybe the people putting the money up weren't so friendly behind closed doors, or were a bit aggressive with Melvin?). All speculation, and hopefully we do get more info.
-
He didn't really do anything new IMO. His original commitment process was always silly, this just shows exactly why but I think we all already acknowledged it was a weird move. No need to re-visit that. Just because he originally committed in a weird way doesn't mean he shouldn't be able to change if he has second thoughts. Miller immediately removing Iowa makes me think something behind the scenes may have happened as well. Chittum's on school 5 but nobody seems to care. If it wasn't Bassett this would be a non-story.

Fair point, but hard to argue that it isn't good for him personally
-
Him being an "attention whore" is a strategy to build a brand which is good for him and for the sport.
-
Call him what you want but he's built a large enough social media following that he can probably get legitimate compensation for it.
