  1. Source: https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/rumor—-gambling.421777/ Real Woods Patrick Kennedy (Franek as replacement makes sense) Nelson Brands (Caliendo as replacement makes sense) Tony Cassioppi (Steveson as replacement makes sense) Bradley Hill Jesse Ybarra Jude Link Unless any of these rumored offenders bet on an Iowa event they will only face mild penalties (partial season suspension).
  2. Spencer had more NCAA success and is better known among young kids. He also wrestled for a higher profile program in Iowa. Jordan obviously has the Olympic and World success and less NCAA success. He's also closer to retirement as a wrestler. Has Burroughs ever mentioned a desire to coach? We know Spencer has mentioned he would like to be Iowa's next head coach/AD.
  3. Would 3x NCAA champ Gable Steveson > 3x NCAA champ Spencer Lee?
  4. Have to think violations before the new rules would be subject to the previous rules...
  5. Steveson doesn't have half of the injury history as Spencer Lee.
  6. This may prove instructive regarding Iowa's gambling situation... "A handful of NFL players, including Indianapolis Colts cornerback and kick returner Isaiah Rodgers, are expected to receive season-long suspensions this week for violating the NFL's policy on gambling, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday." https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/37928546/sources-nfl-expected-suspend-isaiah-rodgers-others-week
  7. Steen is like 3-30 in his college dual career. Picking any Big 10 starter over him isn't exactly going out on a limb.
  8. Haven't heard much about this at all since news initially broke. I'm guessing this means it's not a big deal or is being swept under the proverbial rug?
  9. You are in the minority of Hawkeye fans. Most want anyone who will help Iowa bring home another title over Penn State.
  10. Presumably Iowa and the Brands have already performed their own due diligence on this and have been satisfied it won't be an issue. Otherwise they wouldn't have gone so all-in on brothers Angelo and Anthony...
  11. Caliendo to 174 and Brands to 184 is more realistic. AJ of course at 197. Steveson/Cass at HWT.
  12. Haines and Starroci yes. Bartlett went to HS in PA too, but he was born in Arizona.
  13. I thought Caliendo was in addition to Kennedy...not replacing Kennedy. However, on this Iowa forum thread it is being discussed that Caliendo is an upgrade for Kennedy. https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/flo-video-on-franek-caliendo-transfer.421042/ If true a wrestler of Kennedy's caliber can surely transfer and be a starter elsewhere for sure. Rutgers perhaps?
  14. Willie Saylor has mentioned he has heard this from several sources. It definitely has legs.
  15. I meant retire from coaching. If this was the reason he couldn't coach then that doesn't bode well for Spencer Lee as the next Iowa HC.
  16. Cael is only 44. I don't think he's retiring soon. The Brands are 55 though...
  17. He was the #1 seed last year and didn't come close to winning it despite making the finals. I don't see him getting a more favorable seed and draw than last year, unfortunately. Seems like a great kid though.
  18. 70% of their lineup next year could be transfers. The days of winning with homegrown Iowa talent are long gone... 133 Teske 141 Woods 149 Voinovich 157 Franek 184 Caliendo 197 Ferrari HWT Steveson Could be 8/10 if Joey Cruz can win the 125 starting spot. May not be unrealistic given Ayala's injury history.
  19. 125 Ayala dec Steen 3-0 133 Nagao dec Teske 3-3 141 Woods dec Bartlett 6-3 149 Van Ness dec Voinivich 6-6 157 Franek dec Haines 9-6 165 Kennedy dec Messenbtink 12-6 174 Starocci dec Brands 12-9 184 Truax dec Calliendo 12-12 197 AJ Ferrari dec Brooks 15-12 HWT Kerk dec Cass. 15-15 TIE. (If Steveson, Steveon MAJ Cass. 19-12 Iowa wins.)
  20. With the addition of All-Americans Jared Franek and Michael Caliendo, both from NDSU, Tom Brands is doing the right thing. For years he refused to "recruit over" his own guys but now he sees that the game has changed and it's all about stacking talent, like Cael and Penn State have been doing. It wasn't enough to land the 3 Ferraris, or to have guys like Siebrecht, Kennedy, Brands and Assad already on the team. They went after elite, proven AA level talent in Franek and Caliendo. Let the best man win the spot, regardless of incumbent status, blood relations or other accolades. By making this move the Brands have ensured a true challenger to Penn State next year. It will be an actual race at NCAAs in 2023-2024. Bravo, Tom.
