The federal (Fema) assistance was 2.1 to 2.7 billion dollars for Helene and Milton. It was for 2 Hurricanes. That seems like a lot, and it is. Unfortunately, it was very slow in coming like most government programs. Unfortunately, Milton had 34 billion dollars of damage and Helene had over 79 billion dollars of damage. That comes to 113 billion dollars. 2.7 billion dollars, that is only about 2.5 percent. I live in North Carolina and saw firsthand how slow and incompetent the FEMA and federal government response was to these horrific disasters. The only saving grace was the many thousands of volunteers who came from all over to help. They came with equipment, food, water, clothing and hundreds of other essential items. They rebuilt roads, bridges and set up thousands of temporary homes.
