  1. Yes. As near as I can tell one season has nothing to do with the other.
  2. I am really pulling for Sasso to have a good season
  3. USA Today 11/2/24 The valuation of social media platform X has dropped dramatically in the eyes of major investment firm Fidelity, according to multiple reports. The market value of Fidelity Blue Chip Growth Fund's shares in the private company is estimated at $4.2 million, according to a monthly report released Sunday. That's 79% less than the fund's estimate of its shares in October 2022 when Elon Musk took over Twitter, which were valued at $19.66 million. Applying the shares' relative decline to the total value of X when it was purchased would indicate a $9.4 billion overall valuation, a steep drop from the $44 billion that Musk paid in the acquisition. MarketWatch 8/20/2024 Elon Musk’s $44 billion purchase of Twitter Inc. has emerged as the worst buyout since the global financial crisis for seven large financial institutions that provided debt for the deal, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. The deal has now run up about $13 billion in so-called hung debt, which is money owed to banks that has not been sold partly because the value of the underlying asset has dropped so sharply due to its weak performance.
  4. I have only seen the season with John Hamm, Juno Temple, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Highly recommended.
  5. I think Cunnigham is 141/149. 184 would be Zack Ryder And don't forget PJ Duke in the mix at 157/165
  6. The NCAA stated that pro wrestling is entertainment rather than sport.
  7. Typically news organizations are given advance notice of information so that they can have the story written and ready to go. But the info is under embargo until the news is broken by the person the info is about.
  8. Good point. Maybe it is Pyles' plan to get back at Sanderson for the withering, "you have a plan?"
  9. Sorry to burst that ballon. Here is the calendar you won: Today < January 21, 2025
  10. Doh. I read it as a question rather than a statement. My bad.
  11. He has no WWE prospects, or contract. As for MMA they start you out small and slow. It is a heavy lift, with low odds, to get to the real money. And you get punched in the face a lot, a whole lot, in the meantime.
  12. Yes. The criteria are results based (how did you do in specific tournaments?) rather than actions based (did you prepare for or participate in OTT?).
  13. Who will be the Chair of the Federal Reserve on January 21, 2025? This is one of the most intriguing questions, to me, at the start of Donald Trump's second term. Even though Jerome Powell is a Republican who Trump previously nominated to be chair, he is also someone Trump has said he wants to fire. The ability of a president to fire the chair of The Fed is disputed. And more recently Trump has backed away from saying he will fire Powell. But let's not forget the saga with the CFPB. Trump appoint Mick Mulvaney to take over as interim head (and shut it down), but Obama nominee, Leandra English refused to leave. Ultimately Mulvaney prevailed by being nice and bringing in doughnuts (and they weren't even good donuts, just crappy Dunkin'). Everyone began listening to him, so he was in charge. English sued and it dragged out for 18 months before English gave up. But it was very entertaining while it lasted. The CFPB structure is very different than the Fed structure than the Fed structure, though. The Fed is designed to be independent, the CFPB is not.
  14. Iowa seemed like the natural choice unless Bob Nicolls turned off the money tap.
  15. Interesting point. I always say no one gets better at wrestling by not wrestling. But in Steveson's case I am not sure it really matters. A rusty Steveson with no one to push him probably still dominates the field. I just think he is one of one.

  17. Not on IG. Care to paraphrase? Or post?
  18. Time to turn an eye to the Buckeyes. Says Who? Wrestlestat says. The algorithm seems to prefer the Buckeyes to the indivdual. Wrestlestat has OSU ranked higher in six of ten weights with Kharchla's 174 ranking being the most significant difference of opinion. I have been trained to trust the machine's. I was a fan of that plucky young go getter Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 in the 1984 underdog classic, The Terminator. So let's go with Wrestlestat the rest of the way. All-Americans If Wrestlestat knows what they are talking about, the Buckeyes look to have somewhere between 3 and 4 All-Americans this year. The obvious one is Jesse Mendez. As the top dog at 141 he has a slightly better than 98% chance of All-Americaning. I know, I know. Dude has a title. Come on, of course he will AA. Not so fast my friend. Returning finalist from 2014-2024 only AA 89% of the time. Nick Feldman as a four seed has about three chances in four to become an AA. Putting it all together gets us 3.5 expected AA's from 10 weights. Ohio State is Clearly Better Than PSU I pointed this out on the Illinois thread, too. PSU currently has only 9 wrestlers in the top 33. Ohio State has 10. As I type, Ohio State has a better shot at matching Minnesota's all-time feat of 10 AA's than PSU. So, there is that.

  19. I thought that was a little odd, too. From their summary: "Acknowledging that this excessive use of the rules has negatively impacted the participation in, and the development of our sport for nationals in many countries" So I was trying to think which countries would have this problem? I suppose some of the eastern European countries that have taken in Russian nationals (Uzbekistan, Albania, Azerbeijan, and Bulgaria all had Russian medalists in Paris). But countries like San Marino, Italy, Bahrain would not have this problem. The other question is who would complain? Probably not the beneficiaries of the Russians. More likely it is the countries who did not win medals, but thought they could have with fewer Russians in the competition.
  20. If what happened last year is any indication, the answer has to be yes. Based on seeds Cornell was in the 4-8 range, with <1 point separating fourth from eighth, and NC State was a clear favorite to finish second. Cornell had a great tournament and finished second while NC State severely underperformed and dropped all the way down to twelfth. Ohio State also had a strong performance at last year's tournament, beating their seeds at five weights and matching at three weights. Rinse and repeat.
