What is at stake this year (2023/24 edition)?
Wrestleknownothing posted a topic in College Wrestling
I usually wait until the first of November for this, but will be traveling a bit before then so here goes. As always I invite anyone to add to the list. This is just the stuff I remember. For the second year in a row we have the chance to see two more four timers. And hopefully, this time we will. Pat Smith, Cael Sanderson, Kyle Dake, Logan Steiber, Yianni Diakomihalis, and.... Aaron Brooks goes for title number four. If he gets it where does he rank among the all-time greats? What about among the all-time greats at PSU? Before you answer that question remember that Carter Starocci is also going for his fourth this year (maybe on his way to five?). Keegan O'Toole's drive for four is still intact as well with two in the bag (along with a runner-up) and two to go if he wants to use all his years. I think O'Toole is the only one who has a shot at their third this year. OSU ended ASU's four year rule over the PAC12 (4? 2? 0?). Can they take the final (?) title in conference history? NC State ruled the roost in the ACC for the sixth straight year. Can they make it lucky number seven? Over in the SoCon App State ended Campbell's five year run at the top. Can they start a streak of their own? Cornell is looking for their fourth consecutive EIWA title. Missouri took their second consecutive Big12 title, can they make it three (and lucky thirteenth in a row across all conferences)? Lock Haven looks to lock up their third MAC title in a row. Vito Arujau has a chance to climb into the top 50 all-time NCAA tournament scorers. Sitting at 55 points he would need 23.5 points to make it into a tie for number 50 on the list. -
@D3 for LU @nhs67 thank you gentlemen. I feel like I am in Albania.

None of that defines a recession. Ban Basketball, often in error, never in doubt. "Ha, jokes on you. Why is no one else laughing, ma'am? They just don't get my genius. Hmmm, no one gets my genius, does that mean I am not...nah, that can't be right. Boy, I crack myself up sometimes. Wait, is the joke on me? Haha, jokes on you."

What would the charges be?

And when he breaks out the non-mysoginistic use of ma'am. Trust him, he told me the joke is on us.

It happens from time to time in democratic countries that do not have a two party system. In order to have a majority they form alliances among multiple parties. Sometimes those alliances break apart and they need to "form a new government". In Israel, for example, the current coalition consists of seven parties. The UK has had coalition governments as recently as 2015. First with the Tea Party, and now with the Freedom Caucus, that is sort of what is happening here.

I think it matters for a few reasons. The obvious one is that without a Speaker nothing can happen in the House which means no legislation can happen, appropriations bills are not voted upon, etc. In short, the thing they were elected to do, and that we need them to do, is not happening. The second reason is an offshoot of the first. Without a functioning House, all legislation/bills are going to be crafted by the Senate. That means Democrats get to go first with all legislative business. They get to set the anchor for any negotiations on a bill. And anchoring in negotiations is very important. The third reason, is that if the Republicans want to maintain control over the House, never mind regain control of the Senate and/or the White House, it would be helpful to not be perceived by voters as a bunch of bungling amateurs who cannot even elect a leader among their ranks, or keep the one they elected, never mind actually run the country. I think one big thing that the Freedom Caucus misses is that in pursuing their goals with scorched earth tactics, they make it almost impossible to achieve their goals. As a younger man I found it tempting to do stuff like that, too. But now I call it 30 seconds of satisfaction for a lifetime of regret. I am sure others can think of a few more reasons to add.

And creating a new user name to complain about someone else's character is a well known high character move. -

No idea. I was too busy laughing at @WyldCard's inability to structure a sentence while complaining about someone else's spelling. -
I honestly have no idea how to handicap this. Given the difference between the public vote and the private vote within the Republican caucus, there were clearly some big issues with Jordan. But I do not know if that means they will pick the opposite of Jordan (Scott when it comes to denying the deniers) or if they will settle on Jordan-lite. At this point it is either reading tea leaves or wishful thinking if someone claims they know which way this will go.

You created a new user name just to post this? Why not use your other user name?
